CJM
Went to do the 06+ swingarm today. My 04 swinger has a lonestar (or knock off Im not sure) that is trashed. So I bought a nice magnum/rad carrier (one with the grease zerk on the outside next to the adjustment holes). This sucker has some really weird adjustment holes btw, they are large and kinda ovular shaped and open on the outside. Everything went great until I go to put the sprocket back on. Carrier is hitting the sprocket bolts in a few spots near the adjustment holes on the top. It clears otherwise, which is odd. I checked axle, doesnt seem bent to me. When i took it apart the axle had some nice gouges (1/16" thick of that) in it where the bearing rides and so did the brake hub, but I ground them off nicely and everything is tight as can be and no wobbles. I would think if the axle is out of round it would hit in a specific spot but its hits only one section of the carrier no matter how ya spin it. Im thinking Im going to take my angle grinder and flap disc and take off the 1/16" thats causing me clearance problems. 450R
Pics would help... You sure the carrier has the right bearings in it?... and you have the spacer that goes between the carrier and sprocket hub... You know... What the seal rides on. CJM
I dont think Im missing any seals or anything, was a complete drop in carrier w/bearings and all. What the sprocket bolt is actually hitting is where your adjustments for the carrier are, its like the carrier is slightly to large in this respect. Were talking like a 1/16" would clear it. Ill have to snap some pics tomorrow. But if you can picture it: as the axle rotates, the edge of the sprocket bolts hit the carrier enough to make them gouge it slightly. measuring the possible lonestar thats trashed, they both measure approx 4" but the magnum carrier in there now def stick outs ever so slightly more. Looking over the parts fiche it doesnt look like Im missing anything either. Quote 04R work in progress
CJM
I found a similar situation to mine, blingstar sprocket guard, but the pic is the same idea. The edge of the sprocket bolt is hitting the carrier.. http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv192/Stickman400/Quad%20Pics/IMAG0676_zpsdd9e43f8.jpg Quote 04R work in progress
450R
Try comparing your old carrier to this one... Check and see how far the edge of the bearing is to the edge of the carrier where the adjustment is. Also I would compare and see if the sprocket will still line up in the same place. I wonder if you didn't get a 250r or 400ex carrier or something. It should be a direct fit.
CJM
The label on it said 450r 04-12. IDK. I got it thru honda east toledo, so not much I can do besides wait till monday to call them. Old carrier is done so I cant even salvage it. I think in the end when I call Im going to ask them to rush me a LSR carrier, always had good luck with them. 450R
I think if you had the stock sprocket and bolts it would clear.... But being bling star and lone star carrier that they are not compatible. You might end up having to shave somewhere for it to fit.
CJM
No, no you misunderstand 450r. Its all stock. But Im having the same issue that guy has. The sprocket bolts hit the carrier. I just took it all apart and didnt wanna reassemble and take pictures. Ive settled on the fact I sadly wont be riding today as Im not going to grind a brand new carrier. CJM
Ok, figured it out. The rad carrier is to large. Im not sure if maybe it was mislabeled for a 450r, but the over OD of it vs the knock off lonestar (its a boss bearing apparently) is literally 3/16" larger at its widest. Which would explain why Im able to move it about an inch or two before it hits. Quote 04R work in progress
CJM
That was a very nice comment there... Im soo happy you contributed. I thought it was clear last time to leave me alone. If the bearings werent in the sprocket bolts would have clearance smartass. Quote 04R work in progress

CJM
Jeez you dont give up red do you? Didnt I tell you to get outta my thread? I left you alone now do me the courtesy to leave me alone. @Mamito: No spacer is missing AFAIK, its supposed to be a complete drop in replacement. Im using stock axle, brake hub, locknut etc. Worked fine with the LSR style carrier just not this one. I tried to call the dealer today but the guy wasnt in so tomorrow im gonna give it another shot. CJM
Problem solved with LSR carrier. Nothing hits, everything works nice and dandy 2 Quote 04R work in progress
TP Racing
Problem solved with LSR carrier. Nothing hits, everything works nice and dandy Not really the same problem but along the same lines. I was having problems trying to get my bearing carrier in my new six5design swing arm. Went in ok....so then I started tightening the pinch bolts and was like man this carrier is not getting any tighter in here, I still had little more room to tighten so I just figured tighten it all the way and it should get solid. Never did. So then I called Jake (owner of six5design) and asked him if there could possibly be something wrong with the swinger because I was having the pinch bolts all the way tight and the carrier was still free to move about. He said I should still have a good 1/4 inch gap on the pinch tube. So he asked what carrier I was running and then I told him it was a LSD carrier. Told me that should work fine as its built for stock swing arm carrier. Anyway he told my to put the stock one in there and see if that works, so I did and it worked like a charm. "Well that's weird" I was thinking to myself. So I gave Johnny a call (JH racing) and asked him about it and he thought it might be the wrong carrier. Thought maybe a yfz or something. So we sent it back to LSr and it turns out it was a 250r carrier. Now we all know a 250r carrier will not fit a 450r axle or swing arm housing lol. CJM
Yea quite interesting TP. Honda east toledo called me back to credit my card and I discussed with the rep a bit about the carrier. he said he checked and it was indeed a 450 carrier (I very much doubt this). Im thinking that it was a 250r carrier more than likely. It fit perfectly and the pinch bolts gave me no issues, but the dang thing was just to fat for where the sprocket bolts go-it was rubbing the edges. Wish i woulda sprung for a LSR billet but the cast one will be fine imho for now. Carrier is an easy thing to replace, I got bigger fish to fry in the motor.
