I just bought the newest go pro black edition. It will be released on the first of October . So I should get it by the 8th I hope. And I ordered all the cool accessories . I'll probably need some extra batteries and a few extra sd cards. I'll let you know how it works mawest. This thing is going to have gps built into it and wifi as well so I think we will be able to track the riders on the course. I hope the salesperson wasn't a liar.

You should post some videos of you riding. I believe I saw a short clip you posted on Facebook a while ago.

That was my buddies gopro we were playing around on the hills. As soon as I get mine I'll have some good videos for sure.

I have a few more questions for the team. (sorry if I sound like an idiot but I am a logistics type of guy) I have been reading and doing some research on some other race teams. For example Matlock racing. As I read their race report here are a few questions that came up.

Mamito since we're using your bike for the race I guess most of these questions are for you.

What is the plan if something goes wrong with the bike? Example...Blown tire? radiator? spark plug? suspension? chain? ect. I know that we're using the baja pits. Will they have all the spare parts we will need just in case? Or we will be SOL?

Matlock also talks about the importance of a GPS for the highway sections so they can stay under the 60 MPH speed limit.

I realize this is still 9 months out but we need to start getting our race plan in place. Arrival, pre running, chase trucks, getting the other riders where they need to be on race day, their race section, tech inspection, riders meeting, ect. I would be happy to put something together so we're all on the same page and know what to expect each day. Also, I think it would be appropriate to put together a list of what every one MUST bring with them.

I would love to hear everyone's feedback and suggestions.

We all know that Baja is a mean course and can show it's teeth at any split second and we need to be prepared!!!

For the gps i dont need it, so if any of you migth want to get it and keep it for later sound great. And now the spped limit is 37mph . And if any one has a trouble in the course thats why well have radios to talk to the chade truck.

I have a radio on my truck. We need another truck with radio. I think vasilios was going to get one for him. Ill post later the main freq to have .

if something happens. the chase truck will need to try and reach the quad and assist in any way possible..

I have a set of extra tires but they are not beadlock. So if amybody has a set of beadlocks we need 22" tires on the rear and 23 front. Also i have an extra chain brand new and 2 rear sprockets.. and a sparkplug.

Thats all i have.

on the list part. bring everything you have.. ill bring tools, tires, quad.

So any extra parts might come from the other quads(like rad, axles, hubs) if everyone is cool about it..

One thing we defenetly need extra tierods..

And ill be bringing a friend to photograph the adventure..Because we need to record it..and if we do well we could try the 1000 in 2015

as far as the course brakedown and inspection i got that covered. and i already have a plan for getting the riders there where they need to be... i also have good news., my wife will chase for us also , so while im on the first section, she will take Vasilios to his section(2nd rider) and the rest of the guys will go to somewhere near El Saldana o the military checkpoint to get the 3rd rider on. ill know more once the map is out. ill be passing maps and info as soon as it gets out and ill have acceses roads and everything you guys will need. .

info on the GPS...

SCORE concentrates on files for Lowrance GPS units (.USR files), since that's what most of the cars use. I don't know if they also publish a .GPX or .GDB file for Garmin, but you can easily convert a Lowrance .USR file to a .GPX for a Garmin with this conversion tool:

http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/gpsbabel/

Garmin makes the best GPS units for bikes. If you can deal with a somewhat small screen, the Garmin GPSMAP 78 is the way to go. It's often on sale at West Marine for $200 (not today, so check there in 2 or 3 weeks for the sale price). In addition to the internal AA batteries, the 78 has a 12V power input if you have that on your bike, or if you use it in your car. If you're into dual-sport riding or rally racing, the 12V input is very important. You'll want to try rally (Dakar style) when you see what's coming. It's Diabolical ! ! !

You'll need a RAM mount for the Garmin 78 (and any other unit):

http://www.gpscity.com/ram-mount-garmin-gpsmap-78-series-motorcycle-mount-ram-b-149-ga40u.html

If you're rich, and want a bigger screen, the Garmin Montana is a good option.

thanks for the help... ill make sure to pass it along..

I really like my Lorance XOG. I have it on my 450 and is powered by the bike so the battery is a non issue. If you are runnning a lighting system' date=' it does not draw much. Drawback is sun visor needed or screen cover in direct sunlight. Perfect for night ride. Ram mount to the bars and survived several crashes over the years.[/quote']

thanks.. any links of that..

more into the GPS..

Que Onda El Mamito! Here is my side to your GPS questions. I currently have been using the GPS sytem that Trail Tech design and is made for bikes and quads. It has several options that can be used to mount the system and you can purchase a hard cover made of aluminum that with stands lots of abuse. The trail tech system alows for maping formats to be programmed into system that score provides and allows you to charge the system as you ride and it allso provides information on rides such as trip' date=' speed, average speed, altitude range, time of ride, speedometer, engine temperature, longitude, latitude and several other functions that can be useful. The system is pretty easy to use has a large screen easy to see and it has worked very well for us on race days and prerunning. Again this has been the system we have been using for our bikes and it seems to stand up to the rugged terrain that baja offers. Kawasaki is infamous for lack of charging and so this system has been easy to work with and been great for racing events and readablity. Check it out and see what you think. Asta leugo!!!![/quote']

i think this one is our best option. now the question would be who wants/can buy and keep it after the race?

I want to get a nice gps anyway so yeah I'm in. I want to stick it on the huge flat bar pad and hardwire it in to the electrical system. Lowrance is good stuff I used to be a boat mechanic(mastercraft ski boats were my specialty) prior to selling snapon tools. Speaking of which if any of you guys need tools let me know Ill throw some steep discounts to any member of this team, and ship them to you. I plan on bringing a full assortment of tools for this trip.

Go pro hero 3+ should be here any day now. I'll figure out what we will need to utilize it for the entire time we are riding. Batteries, sd cards, and length of time it will run continuously. This is going to be an epic adventure we need to have on camera. I hope everybody is cool with that.

Info needed: race series name (EX. gncc, nhha) class you raced, finishing points for the series, other races you competed in. basically as detailed as you can make it. I may be able to get us a great sponsorship that will up us out. No guarantee but it's looking good. LOL

Please send the info to mawestjr@yahoo.com

more info on the GPS

If you are familiar with Lowrance systems, then I have a couple of friends that race/ride bikes down in Mexico that use the Lowrance Elite 4M.

It is exactly the same as the 5m, only a bit smaller. They say it works great! Big enough to see, yet small enough to be out of the way. It is hard-wired to the bike battery for power. (they have electric starters, so this is assuming you have a battery). They laser cut some custom mounts to fully support the unit on the bars. Fully compatible with the SCORE files. Has an micro SD slot so you can run background maps. (they run mine http://www.murdocknav.com)

Here is the link for the specs at the Lowrance site http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Products/Chartplotter/Elite4mGold-en-us.aspx but shop around for possible better deals.

Hope this info helps.

Curtis

Lowrance Expedition Ifinder C. I carry it as a backup in the truck and it has made it to cabo on handelbars a few times also. Solid.

yes. we will have one race bike and three parts bike (right?)

That's the plan I hope the race bike holds together for all involved. If we ride with a hair of caution I think we can keep mammitos bike in one piece. He's pretty much rebuilding the whole thing anyway. My bike is not even a year old yet, it gets hammered on pretty good though but my maintenance is way overkill. And I don't know the the status of the other two bikes yours and mawests

Ok I checked out some of the shirts. I will not wear anything with gay ass flames on it. I'm into simple, tasteful , professional looking shirts. A lot of what they have is loud and obnoxious. Rant over.

Jajaja point noted... i did like many of their shirts mostly the bottom types.

But we can order some basic shirts..

Me ill eventually order shirts for my team without the Baja 500 in them

So i can use them in any ocation.

What everyone else thinks?

On the 8th they are going to send me their catalog and ill fwd to all and decide what we want..
