snafu Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 This just came down the wire here at my work. REMINDER....7 days from today, all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls. .....YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222. It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked . You cannot call from a different phone number. HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS. It take about 20 seconds. This is not a joke, it is not an e-mail chain...it is reality. Sad but true. https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx Quote "You can't stop insane people from doing insane things by passing insane laws. That's just insane!" Penn & Teller NEVER FORGOTTEN
snafu Posted February 23, 2007 Author Posted February 23, 2007 After getting the email here at work no less I google up... http://www.ftc.gov/donotcall/ Which tells me the email is bogus. Oh well I went on and put in my home number. I hate them fucking telemarketers. Quote "You can't stop insane people from doing insane things by passing insane laws. That's just insane!" Oh well I went on and put in my home number. I hate them fucking telemarketers. I hate it when I type a comment and forget to press submit. http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/cell411.asp Anytime I get a klaxon email, Snopes is one of the first places I look. Quote Blah.
Phantom Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I just looked over the registry site. They demand your email in order to sign up. Yup- this looks like a mighty crafty way to harvest working email addresses. Quote Blah.
phreakwars Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Have to admit I do the same as Phantom does and that's check snopes. Then again, I take it one step further, by only reading E-mail I anticipate and deleting the rest. Fuck E-mail I predict "E-MAIL" will one day be extinct anyway. . .
