Let us pretend that Canada was given to a group of intelligent people to clear out and populate with those of our choice. Now, we have to start everything anew: Economy, Government, Police Force, Laws, and everything else. What would be some of the stuff you would do to make a better country? I would:

  1. [ ]I would have a democracy like in the US, except certain things would change: Judges would be voted for by the people. Allowing the President to pick judges allows him to basically make the court go his way. Not a good system.
[ ]Capitalism is a bastard but it works. We do need a minimum wage though. Wal-Mart and the like would screw it's employees over horribly.
[ ]Pedophiles can and will be killed if convicted in a court of law. They don't deserve to live!

Can you guys contribute anything?

I would separate the presidency into 2 seats... foreign and domestic... that way the republicans AND the democrats could input there good qualities but would leave thier 'lackluster' ones behind... Besides, One president can't handle the work load now... and if he's an idiot, there is now hope... but with two, we got a shot

Well if I had the choice to populate it with people of my choosing, then there wouldn't be much of a government. I would choose people who know how to treat other people, how to be decent, respectful people without having to be controlled by a Government (Yeah yeah yeah, I know it's a fairy-tale) However, I would implement a large scale council type thing, like many tribal societies have (had), for important decision-making and the likes.

I promise to afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted. That I will never just accept what I am told. That I will never fall in love with safety and forget liberty. I promise that I will look for the lie in every pretty story and the bribe in every convenience.

Comunal socailism with a single major product for global trade. Religion with no houses of worship. Mandatory civil service. Voluntary citizenship. Punishment fit the crime. Mandatory enviornmentally friendly homes and buildings. Free education. grey water irrigation. Black water compost. Village raises the child (everyone partakes in education of younguns) Blah blah blah. I actually did a years worth of work and reasearch for this same thing in college, wish I could post teh basics of teh paper but it would take too damn long. You ge tthe jist.

Well put tizz, i agree with about 90% of that, communial socialism rocks (Communial Ararchism is good too) but that main thing we;d need to fix for the good hit like tat to happen is for things to be scaled down; Big countries like Canada and the US and Pretty much all the big powers of the world are too spread out for my likings, somebody 10000km away should have no say in the workings of my community. For a turly democratic system to work (AKA direct democracy, keeping people form CONTROLING others and using their positions for perosnal gain) it all must be done on a small scale. Direct democracy is no BS the voice of the people but its simply impossible when dealing with 30 million voices over a HUGE landscape.

I believe that the only truly good government is that of the people, what we have now is NOT under the peoples control. We are simply being ruled, this is not a democracy.

I'd kind of like to see the end of the world, in a sort of weird and twisted way, so it would be nice if there was a huge-ass uncontrolled military, with tons of dangerous weapons. No government of any sort, and people running around with breasts on their forehead, or something weird to scare the children.

And then ka-boom.

I mean..I probably wouldn't enjoy it, but I'm rather curious.

shakes head

Now, if I didn't WASN'T curious to come face to face with the world's demise, I'd have to say...

- I'd like to see a woman leader dude(ette). It'd be quite interesting to see what it's like with a female in charge.

- Instead of an out-of-control legal system where we try to uphold laws that we write to protect ourselves from our own stupidity (and fail miserably), have more controlled circumstances for potentially dangerous things instead of making them illegal. we're saving money on imprisonment, search & capture, courts, etc. Hopefully it'll be healthier, too. (I'm talking about things like drugs, prostitution, etc.)

- NO CARS. I understand how convenient they are, I really do. But..if not carpooling/public transportation, at least some sort of ideal technology, like the fuel-cell powered car

- Tougher on criminals. Especially in Canada, we're too weak. Letting kids off all the time (wow..I got a huge deja vu right now). And if we keep letting kids off, they grow up to become your next door neighbour and rape your daughter.

- Institutionalize the mentally sick. I don't care if they have a "better shot" at getting better in the real world. I have a better shot at getting fucked over by one of them if they're out on the loose.

- An ideal education system equally balanced on learning academics, and the "ways of life" - so to speak, with better teachers, and higher standards.

- National Hug Day. We can all use one :D

I don't believe that a world of single leaders can survive. I beliefe that becoming self sufficient is enough and that the drive for more power and money will end up eating a nation alive, and that respecting natural resources instead of demolishing them is more the way to go. It is possible (at least I proved it to a population of 500k as tht was the assignment) I believe the US started out with the right idea (though very different from my own) but has gotten sucked into the struggle for MORE power and will eventual be destroyed for that need.
