RegisteredAndEducated Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Hell, it happens. Made me a better person I like to think. And I was lucky enough to get the high side too. The people that I call Mom and Pops are not my real parents, but they might as well be... I love them as if they were.. but thanks for the words of kindness. Hey, "Non-believers" I've just got one thing to say to ya... If you're right, then what difference does it make, it wont matter when we're dead anyway... But if I'm right... Well, hey... Ya better be right...
builder Posted August 25, 2005 Author Posted August 25, 2005 And that is all that counts, really, R&E. The fact that you have someone to rely on is the main thing. My stepdad couldn't get me outta the family home soon enough. He regretted it. (I had all the tools, LOL). It took a few years, but we ended up going on camping/fishing trips together, and he's now one of my good mates. I don't look up to him, we are "equals". Quote Persevere, it pisses people off.
tizz Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 I grew up in a house with just my mom (I knew my dad but hadn't sen him in 13 years when he died 2 years ago crap next weeken ) Aparently we had issues because my sister disinvited me to his funeral service LOL) Man a lot can aparently happene when you don't talk to someone for 11 years LOL) But I never really thought of him as a DAD hell I am not sure what having a "dad" is or what role he is supposed to play, but I don't mind. I had a fabulous childhood surrounded by lots of love. I had everything that's important. I really do hate to see anyone grow up without a parent like my mom. I can't imagine hating her or NOT having the upmost respect for her. builder Posted August 25, 2005 Author Posted August 25, 2005 Those that can, Do. Those that can't, Teach. Grooooaaaaan. You're showin' you're true age now, MRIH. It's 95, not out. Those who can, learn. Those who can't, quote. Quote Persevere, it pisses people off.
tizz Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 And if no one teaches who will give the squirts the power to DO? Dumbass Come on MRIH you have to think first Quote "An intelligence that is not humane is the most dangerous thing in the world" Ashley Montague "No one should have to walk alone" Phuong Du "An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" Ghandi "If I were asked to define an American in a single phrase, I would say 'An American is a person who has the right to be different' and I think that right is growing" William Manchester
RegisteredAndEducated Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 That's the great thing about my Foster Parents, they treated me like an equal the whole time. I never really had a reason to rebel, plus I think I got my fill of that when I was about 13. Now, saying all of this, I am by no means making myself out to be a saint, Hell I gave them a harder time than they deserved. I was respectful, but looking back, probably not as much as I should have been. :o I haven't talked to my "father" since the day he threw me out in March 2001. That's completely by choice. I don't want to talk to him, when I do, I will, but not yet. It's all good, I Love them, and i know it's mutual.. The one thing that rings true for me, and I've seen heaps of "kids" turn into adults, is that if you treat a kid like an adult, and still let them have their childhood, they remember what you did for them. Kids don't stay kids for long. I currently work with a "kid" that I met when he was five. I took him and his mates up the beach for a surf for his thirteenth birthday, and was there when he ralfed up many dollars worth of cheap booze on his twenty-first. He surely don't look up to me, seeing as how he is now six foot four, but he sure has a lot of respect, and it's mutual. Quote Persevere, it pisses people off.
RegisteredAndEducated Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 That's a cool story. I could have used a guy like you (except for not so damn aggrivating, lol... j/k) in my life as a POSITIVE male role model... umm bad word... influence maybe. Anyways.. I hope you didnt rub off on the kid too much... lol. Quote Intelligent people think... how ignorance must be bliss.... idiots have it so easy, it's not fair... to have to think... I hope you didnt rub off on the kid too much... lol. On the contrary, I might have rubbed off on him too much. Part of the indocrination into adulthood in Australia, is the subtle art of taking the piss outta eachother. The key word here is "subtle". This seems to be lost on most yanks. The "boy's" name is Callan. His mates call him calza. I call him "late for breakfast", because I often have to tip a cup of cold water on him to get him up for work. In situations where I need an extra hand, he is still trying to emulate my piss-take, so you may be right in that I had too much influence in calza's edu. That's the difference between knowing a tactic, and knowing when to use it. I don't think even rekshun could teach that one. Cheers. Quote Persevere, it pisses people off.
