Cogito Ergo Sum Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 I was watching CNN this morning and I saw a BP gas station sign from down in the devestation area with gas prices of $6 per gallon! WTF! I use BP and in fact it's my prefered station! I immediately jumped on the internet and fired off a letter to BP corporate. "I have always been a strong supporter of BP fuel stations and have at all times given my business to you because I felt that your stations were competitive, clean, and well managed. Imagine my SHOCK today while watching the devastation in the Gulf States on CNN, when all of a sudden an image of a BP station with gas prices of $6 per gallon came up on the screen! In the course of 30 minutes, I . I put no stock in religion. By the word "religion" I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every denomination be called the will of god. builder Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Bit harsh CES. Think of the probs of transporting that fuel in there, and the likelihood of their underground tanks having to be purged to get rid of the water in the fuel tanks. I know they are a massive conglomerate, with the ability to write off such feeble losses, but demand and supply is the cornerstone of consumerism. I recall the flood in a town I lived in. Katherine, NT, was inundated just as effectively. One retailer was selling generic toilet paper for 5 bucks a roll. Another hotel was giving it away, because the insurance assessor had written off all of their stock. Generosity doesn't pay the bills. On the other hand, avarice and the reputation that follows can hang off you for a long time. Tough call. I'd be surprised if your letter gets a reply. Persevere, it pisses people off.
tizz Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 If anyhting, if the companies HAVE to compensate for issues int eh destroyed regions, they should be raising prices elswhere. Those folks have nothin right now and don't need to add to their woes buy havig to pay that crap at the pump. For a lot of people the carr they left in is all they have left. I would be willing to pay a bit more to help out the folks with nothing. At least I still have a home to waste gas driving home to. builder Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Fair call, tizz. In the town that I mentioned, people were leaving in their droves, when they could get away, due to the faeces-polluted mud coating the whole town. Our gov was giving a thousand bucks to anyone willing to stay, and ten grand to any self-employed tradie that would hang around. Trouble was, indigenes were going in for seconds and thirds, and people were arriving from far and wide to put their hands out for the handout. Human nature is a weird-arse thing. A~greed? Free fridges and washing machines were being handed out, and the scammers were "redirecting" these to Darwin for resale. Seems like wherever there is catastrophe and ruin, the lowest forms of human life will congregate. Much like vultures, really. Persevere, it pisses people off.
tizz Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 I hate that side of the human psychie "An intelligence that is not humane is the most dangerous thing in the world" Ashley Montague "No one should have to walk alone" Phuong Du "An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" Ghandi "If I were asked to define an American in a single phrase, I would say 'An American is a person who has the right to be different' and I think that right is growing" William Manchester
builder Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Three very reliable labourers of mine scored 11 grand for staying, and ended up with raging amphetamine habits. No good to anyone after that. One of them helped himself to my electricals, and I had to give him the gospel according to builder. I still have two broken knuckles to remind me. Persevere, it pisses people off.
Cogito Ergo Sum Posted September 1, 2005 Author Posted September 1, 2005 What's got me pissed off the most Builder, is that these companies have been making profits for DECADES. When something like this happens, they all claim that they have to cover their asses and jack the prices. What bullshit. Are all of Americas corporations living hand to mouth? Are they all just 1 step away from bankruptcy? What a fucking joke! I'm sure that this example was an independent station owner, (most likely a rag head or recent immigrant) just saw an opportunity to make triple what he normally makes, and I wouldn't be surprised if I was not the only one to send an email to BP. It was all over CNN. I hope that they yank the fucker . I put no stock in religion. By the word "religion" I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every denomination be called the will of god. builder Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 If your "service" stations, meaning fuel retailers, are anything like over here, they are indeed franchisees, and are on their own, except for the dictating of pricing policy. If the franchisee makes a loss, the parent company doesn't really give a flying fuck. If he goes broke, the parent co takes the biz in lieu of payment, and sells it off. Just like in the flood zone, it's dog-eat-dog. That's consumerism. You either love it, or leave it. Us consumers bite the bullet, or rant like fuck for no result. shrugs Persevere, it pisses people off.
tizz Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 They are not allowed to raise prices unless thay paid more. My mom just paid more that 40 cents more than two days ago but they can't do that unless they have recieveda shipment and paid more themselves (or if the state gov raises taxes which IS on tehtable at the moment) "An intelligence that is not humane is the most dangerous thing in the world" Ashley Montague "No one should have to walk alone" Phuong Du "An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" Ghandi "If I were asked to define an American in a single phrase, I would say 'An American is a person who has the right to be different' and I think that right is growing" William Manchester
builder Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Not so sure about the USA, but when martial law is declared here, all prior agreements and contracts are null and void. Supply is the key. Persevere, it pisses people off.
