It's supply and demand that sets gas prices folks..not the mythical manipulators. Otherwise, why would we not have been paying three bucks a gallon years ago?

And the powers that be set the supply levels. So whatcha sayin? Theres no mythology at work here, only simple math. Supply and demand is the myth. Demand is always high, the supply is always plentiful. Its a matter of production levels set by the oil companies to regulate the price index.

Bullshit, if that was true prices would always be high. You never answered my question.

What this question? Who the fuck do you think I am? The one genius in the world that can figure out the oil companies market manipulation? If I was I wouldn't be here right now bickering with you. I be buried next to Jimmy Hoffa in some yet undisclosed location for having figured out the great gas scheme.

I'll tell ya what I do know. I know that even years ago the price of gas would go up before I got my paycheck on friday, thus forcing me to pay more when I have money then when I don't. I know that the price of gas spikes everytime a holiday rolls around. I know that the oil companies see the demand about to rise by X amount, therefor they raise production by X amount, therefor raising the price by X amount. They raise production even though they are sitting on umpteen billion gallons of crude. They call it supply and demand, I call it BULLSHIT!!!!

So when you figure it all out, holler, i'd like to know.

I'm sorry you are seriously deluded. Given an inelastic demand curve, gas would have been $3 a gallon years ago under your scenario.

Sorry, the fact is gasoline prices, up until the last surge, has over the last 40 years seriously trailed the inflation rate. If someone has been manipulating prices we ought to thank them.

It's illogical. Refusing to buy gasoline on one particular day of the month won't affect the oil companies' overall sales or profits. Why not? Because everyone who skips buying gasoline on September 3 will be filling their tanks on the 4th, or the 5th, or the 6th of September. An effective boycott would require that a significant number of people consume less fuel on an ongoing basis, not just avoid purchasing it on one particular day of the year.

Plus, the 3rd is past so I guess it's moot...

.

I put no stock in religion. By the word "religion" I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every denomination be called the will of god. I have seen too much "religion" in the eyes of too many murderers. Holiness is in right action, and courage on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves, and goodness.

Oh yes, capitolist. Picking at the bones of the consumer to get every scrap of profit.

33 billion dollars profit per quarter. Thats what the oil companies make on average. All profit. Imagine if the food manufacturers wanted the same profit margine. What if a loaf of bread cost $20?

People need gasoline. People need natural gas. Its a necessity. Our economy is about to get real fucked up if gas prices continue to skyrocket. Eggs will cost more, milk will cost more, just about everything will cost more. Just wait about 6 months and the cost will be handed down to every consumer. And all the while the crooks at the oil companies WILL mantain their 33 billion dollar per quarter profit.

And you wanna feed me this bullshit about gas prices not keeping up with inflation rates. If it did, it would cause the inflation rate to rise expedentialy until it hit the roof. Gas prices cant keep up with inflation without bringing the economy down hard.

What seems suspicious is the lack of competative pricing in the oil industry. Their is no competative pricing! Why not?

The difference between oil companies and others is that oil is a necesity. Poeple HAVE to be able to heat their homes without having to choose between food and heat or medications and heat. I was talking to a gas station owner today and he said he expects prices to drop back down within a week. The recent rise was more panic than anything else

I am glad to see someone thinking clearly. However I disagree with your choice of the word "panic". I would scratch that and replace it with the word 'excuse". Because thats what I saw, an excuse to raise the price. God forbid that the oil barons would only make $25 billion in profits this quarter. Think of those filthy rich bastards only being able to buy 3 luxury jetliners this year instead of 6. All these foreign countries are pitching in millions of barrells of crude to help the US. But you know the oil barons got paid $$$, hell yes they did. Did opec do ANYTHING to help out? Fuck no. Are you kidding, sacrifice their profit margin to help out in a time of crisis.

And this assclown (HUGO) is defending oil barons like their just your typical free enterprise success story.
