I lost my grandfather Thursday morning at 1:20am. I was there when he drew his last breath, and I'm so glad I could be with him. He was like my second daddy. He and my grandma watched my brother and I from the time we were babies while my parents worked. Through all the ups and downs in my life including both of my parents divorces (they were married and divorced to each other twice), my Nana and Papaw were the constant. The house they lived in, that my grandmother will now have to sell, was as much mine as my own house. I never remember knocking. That would have been as strange as knocking on my own front door. It is strange to think I will not be making anymore trips to that house. It wouldn't be the same anyway.

The last thing our elders teach us about life is how to die.

It seemed really sudden. He was one of those who was never sick a day in his life. He was very athletic and active. At 5'5" he was good at gymnastic type activities. He was a diver and pole-vaulter when he was younger and just a few years ago while substituting in a high school gym class, he was doing standing back flips for the kids. He was not what most people imagine as a grandfather. He may have had one or two grey hairs, but the rest were a light brown, and he never had to dye it. He had cancer, found out a few months ago, but even that didn't really kill him. His bladder was bleeding and they couldn't stop it. They gave him two bags of blood and couldn't give him any more. He just bled to death over the last two weeks. The family thought it would be at least another year or so. Just two weeks ago he was up and walking around and seemed normal.

Both sets of my grandparents are gone now but my parents are getting old. My mom is not doing well with diabetes. Also she will be on dalais within the next few years. My dad is like you said about your grandfather. He is pretty healthy for being in his 80

Tori, I am SO very sorry for your loose.

There are some people that we want to hold on too forever. My Grandmother was one of those people too.

I know it can leave you disoriented to loose someone like this. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I am a pathetic piece of shit leeching single mom.

I've expressed this already, but I'm very sorry for your loss.

I know you are strong, but if you need someone to talk to... You have my #.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hey, "Non-believers" I've just got one thing to say to ya... If you're right, then what difference does it make, it wont matter when we're dead anyway... But if I'm right... Well, hey... Ya better be right...

Well, I always hate saying anything in these situations because it sounds trite and petty, but you have my support.

Hug your kids, it seems to make it easier.

I lost my saintly grandmother back on the 21st of December of '06. The one thing I've learned from my grandmother is dignity. She lived he entire life in the servitude of my family... she did it with class, integrity, and dignity. Not one thing can replace her in this world.

Godspeed, Tori. It's a rough road ahead, but you're strong enough.

Shalom.
