KENSINGTON, Md., Oct. 7 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Convicted child molester William C. Davis, 33, of Wadesville, Indiana, was arrested in Fargo, N.D. yesterday, just days after Oprah Winfrey featured the fugitive on her TV show and web site. Davis served less than two and a half years in an Indiana prison for two counts of child molestation in the 1990s, was wanted for five new counts of child molestation in Indiana, and had allegedly not registered as a sex offender upon his release from prison. Winfrey's power was again put on positive display, as her influence helped capture this molester the very week she began her new campaign to help track down fugitive sex offenders.

 

 

"Throw Away The Key," a national advocacy group that works to reduce crime rates, today applauded Winfrey for her inspirational work, and urged Americans to ask lawmakers and judges some tough questions about why a convicted child molester like Davis was treated so leniently in the first place.

 

 

"Indiana officials had Davis serve just two years of a ten year sentence for child molestation, then seemed surprised he would allegedly reoffend and skip town," said Michael Paranzino, president of Throw Away The Key. "Were it not for Oprah Winfrey and her loyal fans, this monster would still be loose in North Dakota, potentially preying on unsuspecting children thanks to Indiana's gross negligence. Child molesters should be behind bars, not working in a Fargo deli."

 

 

Paranzino continued: "The fugitives featured by Winfrey at oprah.com also share another disturbing characteristic: they were released on bail pending trial for child molestation, and then fled before trial. We need bail reform for child molesters and rapists. As we saw in the Shasta and Dylan Groene tragedy, bail is much too easily given to accused child molesters. Our grass roots volunteers will be educating lawmakers about the need to restrict bail for sex offenders awaiting trial."

Oprah has spoken openly about being sexually molested as a child. She came from a broken home and at times was shuttled between family households. At some point someone was not watching closely and she was molested by a family member, I don't think her Father, I think like a cousin or Uncle.

I'm sure this problem is something anyone with this kind of background feels deeply. I would be thinking but for the grace of God, that could be me, everytime they find another dead child...

As a matter of fact there was a black child molestor, there was also some black children missing as well.

 

Child molestors tend to prey on children of their own race.

 

I have checked the people registered here in my area and there isn't one black person listed in my town. Their all white.

You say child molestors tend to prey on children of their own race, if so then I'd say it goes on alot in the back community but doesnt get reported near as much because blacks are bred and raised to hate the police...LOL

I used to hate Oprah, too.

 

But then you think about all the poor people she has bought houses for, and the countless others whose wishes have been granted, just because she was feeling benevolent ....

 

And it's kind of hard to feel anything but awe.
