angie Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 http://www.nbc30.com/health/5142360/detail.html JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Attention Wal-Mart shoppers: The doctor is in. Solantic, an urgent care company based in Jacksonville, has struck a deal with the world's largest retailer to locate walk-in clinics in two of its stores in Florida. Each center has a board-certified physician on duty and is open on holidays and weekends -- the same hours as Wal-Mart is open. Solantic said the flexible hours will make it easier for people who rarely see a doctor to do so without going to an emergency room. In addition, the days of cooling your heels in a waiting room are over. Solantic said after you check in, you can go out and shop in the store and you'll be paged or called on your cell phone when it's time for your appointment. Solantic said if the Florida experiment is successful, the concept could be taken nationwide. I'm sorry, but you couldn't pay me enough to go to Wal-Mart to see a DOCTOR. If I need a doctor, I call my doctor's office. If it's an emergency they get me in same day. If I can wait, I go in within a few days. If it's after hours, there's always the ER (which I HATE but would STILL not go to Wal-Mart). What's next? Buy a house at Wal-Mart? Have outpatient surgery at Wal-Mart? Gimme a break. Lethalfind Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 I think this is fabulous, I already get my hair cut and eyebrows waxed there. I often have a hard time fitting in other trips like a doctors office visit. Wal-Mart is a wonderful place. Its not the only place we shop but they keep giving me a reason to come back. Exactamundo, angie! With a doctor there has to be some amount of privacy and a Wal-Mart doctor is not one of them. I realize it would be convenient for some folk and probably cheap for some others, but I would not trust that type of doctor with my vital information. All I know, they could be sending my info to Al-Qaeda and target former military personnel. Another thing, I think it would be kind of awkward to run into your Wal-Mart doctor while you're shopping. I mean, I don't want anyone else to nag me about my eating habits and smoking. Quote To be the Man, you've got to beat the Man. - Ric Flair Everybody knows I'm known for dropping science.
angie Posted October 23, 2005 Author Posted October 23, 2005 I think this is fabulous, I already get my hair cut and eyebrows waxed there. I often have a hard time fitting in other trips like a doctors office visit. Wal-Mart is a wonderful place. Its not the only place we shop but they keep giving me a reason to come back. You are a prime example of why Wal-Mart may very well achieve their goal of world domination. I go there to buy toilietries because it is much cheaper than the grocery store. But lately I have found that I prefer Target. Cleaner atmosphere, MUCH more organized, and you don't get the mobs of ghetto trash there. I haven't found the pricing to be any different, so I may run out of reasons to go to Wal-Mart. If I want my hair/eyebrows done, I go to the salon. If I want groceries, I go to Stop and Shop. If I have some sort of ailment, I go to my doctors. If I needed an OB/GYN exam, I wouldn't go to my regular practitioner. If I need my teeth cleaned, I don't go to the chiropractor. Going to Wal-Mart to see a doctor IS NOT NATURAL. It's not right. And RO is right, who knows WHAT kind of privacy you really have. I don't trust Wal-Mart. Seems like they are always in the news for doing something shady. You go ahead and go to Wal-Mart to see a second-rate doctor. I'll continue seeing my doctor who my whole family has been seeing for many years. That's what I want in a doctor, a good dr/patient relationship, not some random stranger at a STORE. My doctor is one of the only people I trust, and that's how I feel it should be. I want to know who is treating me. manicmonday Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 A doctor at Walmart? Wow, I've heard everything. Subway at Walmart, ok. A doctor? I can hear it now over the intercome, "Attention: the patient with the suspiscious rash needing antibiotics is now needed at the doctor's office" Quote The dick has no conscience and the heart has no rational abilities.
Lethalfind Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Actually, locally Walmarts pricing is not better then Super Target so I have been shopping there alot. There are some things I can't get at Target but I have also been going to Costco and gotten some of the things there. I like to buy in bulk and our local super Target is not as big as some. However I have no problem with a doctor at WalMart having my information. The article made this sound like a quick care kind of situation, not your primary care physician. AND this doctor would be bound to the Federal laws known as Hippa. You need to be more worried about your insurance company who probably has a fuckin call center in the Punjabe. These people have access to our records and obviously not bound by our laws... Quote I am a pathetic piece of shit leeching single mom.

I'm still not going to Wal-Mart for medical care. It'll never happen. And for those who can't afford the ER (i.e. no med insurance) I know all the hospitals in my state have free bed funds for those who can't afford treatment. They offer payment arrangements as well. Furthermore-walk in clinics tend to be more expensive than a trip to the dr. I went to a clinic a few years ago and the fee was $80. A trip to my dr office is $70. Really not that expensive. And worth every penny if you are really ill. Quote http://www.darwinawards.com/ http://www.snopes.com http://www.breakthechain.org STOP THE SPAM!! Click Me You Know You Want To
RoyalOrleans Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 And RO is right I'm always right. I've had the same doctor since I was sixteen. Until he retires, I will not go see anyone else. Quote To be the Man, you've got to beat the Man. - Ric Flair Everybody knows I'm known for dropping science.
angie Posted October 23, 2005 Author Posted October 23, 2005 I'm always right. I'm just going to ignore that part. Ive had the same doctor since I was sixteen. Until he retires, I will not go see anyone else. Same here. And EVERYONE in my family sees him. Parents, siblings, grandmother, cousins, aunt uncle....He's a wonderful doctor, and has the best bedside manner I have encountered so far.
