eisanbt Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 No one will understand our taste in music, builder. Hell its what I grew up with. Your list had pretty much all the good old stuff, although I'd build on it some. But then again I'm a good music fanatic. I don't care about the time it was made or the genre, I just love alot of shit. From Alice In Chains, -The Dire Straits, - Bach, -2Pac, -Nick Drake (The most beautiful male voice ever. look up the song River Man if you've not heard him before.) -KMFDM, -Rammstien, -Aphex Twin, -Little Richard -Daft Punk, -The Tragically Hip. -Moby, -Paul Simon, -The Black mages -Moon Sorrow -Tosca Torso -Eric Clapton -Tori Amos -The Ditty Bops -The Cranberries -Coldplay -Elvis -Flogging Molly (Oh Irish drinking rock!) -Frou Frou -Queens of the Stonage -Ray Charles -Mediaeval Babies -Matthew Good -Foo Fighters -Marvin Gaye -Mamas and Papas -Bowie -Nirvana -System of a Down -Bare Naked Ladies -Psyche Abandoned -Pink Floyd -Tom Petty -Paul McCartney -Wassabi Collective (Look these folks up, they're incredable! They just refuse to sign on with a label.) ...And I should probably stop before I take up the whole page. The point is so long as it's well done, whatever 'It' may be, its worthy of respect. RoyalOrleans Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 Hell its what I grew up with. Your list had pretty much all the good old stuff, although I'd build on it some. The Dire Straits - Love Dire Straits - Bach - What do they sing? Kidding... not a classical critic. -2Pac - Hate the bastard. -Nick Drake - Who? -KMFDM - What? -Rammstien - No fuckin' way. -Aphex Twin - Pretty good, honorable mention. -Little Richard - Nope. -Daft Punk - Huh? -The Tragically Hip - Tragically horrible. -Moby - Pretty cool, but I'm not a big fan of Techno. -Paul Simon - Jews should own record labels, not make them. -The Black mages - Who? -Moon Sorrow - What? -Tosca Torso - Who? -Eric Clapton - I've been a big fan for a long time, however the Unplugged album was not his best work. -Tori Amos - Not a big fan. -The Ditty Bops - How about Shitty Drop? Never heard of them. -The Cranberries - Yeah... ok, I guess. -Coldplay - Nope. -Elvis - I love Elvis. I mean, I freakin' love Elvis. He's the man. -Flogging Molly - who? -Frou Frou - wtf? -Queens of the Stonage - who? -Ray Charles - I can't see shit! Love Ray! -Mediaeval Babies - This is getting ridiculous! Never heard of them. -Matthew Good - I prefer Matthew Sweet. -Foo Fighters - They rock, sometimes. -Marvin Gaye - I said, Marvin Gaye. -Mamas and Papas - Nah. -Bowie - Nope. -Nirvana - Not a favorite, but worth mentioning. -System of a Down - nope. -Bare Naked Ladies - sucks -Psyche Abandoned - never heard of them. -Pink Floyd - I mentioned the Floyd. -Tom Petty - Love Tom Petty. -Paul McCartney - The worse concert that I've EVER been to was a Paul McCartney concert... and I've seen Vanilla Ice! -Wassabi Collective - Tastes better in a sauce. eisanbt Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 Boring, uninspired, mediocre post-Blondie bullshit. I would disagree with most of that. But heres my general outlook on music. To be critical of something saying that its just crap, they don't know what they're doing or they're just the same crap as this other crap is terribly self-centered. Even when I think shit is awful money-pop BS if it fits some basic criteria then I respect the artists; -They write their own songs -They sing their own songs -And preferably play their own insturaments, this is especially essential for insturmental groups . (Not AS much respect for 'just' vocalists) This is why I can hold some respect for bubble gummers like Avril Lavgine; Even though I hate her music and her image and her dumbassery, she does her own shit and there are people out there who like it. Why would I put myself above somebody for liking something different from me? I seldom call music crap and if I do I ususally clairfy. When somebody harps on about what you listen to is shit, especially music which means SO much to SO many, then its really a kick in the pants you know. Hell I can even like crap! 'Toxic' by Britney Spears, sorry but that was a dman catchy song. Do I respect her or even consider her a part of the music world? Nope. She does nothing but mechanically sing corporate-mathmatical pop written by a dozen or so people with the soul purpose of making money. This relm of 'music' is not art, its a product to be sold. Coming back to The Ditty Bops, I love them x10. Lovly voices, catchy tunes and clever lyrics all done by these 2 charming ladies who just love being goofs about their shit. The mere fact the they post all their music on their website for whoever to listen to is just a testiment to the fact that they're just in it for the music, and to make enough to live comfortably while doing what they love. An artist's/group's reasoning for doing what they do will vary but its easy to tell that somebody is really doing this with a purpose compared to somebody who is vacume packed and reprinted 10 million times for resale. If you think that your taste in music is the ONLY good taste then I hope a bookcase falls on you and you're crushed after finding your wife's lesbien porn on the top shelf. Note:This probably sounded more spitful then I ment, its not directed souly at you RO, but just at snobs in general. RoyalOrleans Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 But heres my general outlook on music. To be critical of something saying that its just crap, they don't know what they're doing or they're just the same crap as this other crap is terribly self-centered. What the hell are you talking about? Even when I think shit is awful money-pop BS if it fits some basic criteria then I respect the artists; -They write their own songs -They sing their own songs -And preferably play their own insturaments, this is especially essential for insturmental groups . (Not AS much respect for 'just' vocalists) I totally concur, however I can't bring myself to listen to bullshit pop music. (ie: U2) This is why I can hold some respect for bubble gummers like Avril Lavgine; Even though I hate her music and her image and her dumbassery, she does her own shit and there are people out there who like it. Why would I put myself above somebody for liking something different from me? I never said that I was above anyone because my opinion of music was different. I merely pointed out how much I think the band, you so adore, sucks. Take it with a grain of salt or a shot of tequila, but don't take it to heart what I say. As you say, its just an opinion. I seldom call music crap and if I do I ususally clairfy. When somebody harps on about what you listen to is shit, especially music which means SO much to SO many, then its really a kick in the pants you know. Music is a major part of my life. I could not exist without it. Your taste in music, may clash with mine. With that said, I must mention my vehement dislike for people that muck up the industry with their half-assed pop bubble gum bullshit. (ie Creed) Hell I can even like crap! You go ahead and like crap all you want to. I'm just going to sit here and enjoy the Allman Bros Band as they rock the Fillmore East. A hit is a hit. Regardless of who sings it, plays it, or records it. Doesn't mean that the majority is going to love it. If they were in it just for the music, perhaps they'd work much harder at not sucking. I'm mean, that's the suckiest bunch of suckers that has ever sucked. I remember when music was a respectable trade; you could listen to the music, relax, and feel inspired. The problem with music today has so much to do with the corporate image and what sells. I can not believe fucking rap and hip hop has succeeded so well. I reckon it just goes to show that 99.5% of the people in the world have absolutely no taste whatsoever. An artist's/group's reasoning for doing what they do will vary but its easy to tell that somebody is really doing this with a purpose compared to somebody who is vacume packed and reprinted 10 million times for resale. I have seen no worthy examples in Today's music, be it Pop or Alternative. If you think that your taste in music is the ONLY good taste then I hope a bookcase falls on you and you're crushed after finding your wife's lesbien porn on the top shelf. I'm not married. Note:This probably sounded more spitful then I ment, its not directed souly at you RO, but just at snobs in general. I hope you learn how to spell. If I'm a snob because I prefer music wrought with heart and talent, then I guess I'm a snob.
