I just wanted to get a few opinions regarding other Civil Rights leaders, besides Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr.

When I was at University I took a class called Civil War and Reconstruction as part of my history major.

I have to say reading over this time in our history and of course the civil rights movement in the 50's was a time that I was very ashamed of my country.

I was sickened by the descriptions of the men in white sheets. How black men trying to do the right thing were killed just for the color of their skin.

Anecdotal evidence of some black people who have done wrong does not justify our actions.

If anecdotal evidence was all it takes to prove a race is bad then white folks lead the pack in my opinion.

I think these people were brave in standing up against an injustice and trying to claim the freedom the rest of us take for granted.

I have seen the man interviewed who shot Metger Evers and his arogance and obvious low, common mentality made me ashamed to share the same color of skin.

While I grew up part of my life in Texas I was never so taken aback as when I visited Paris Island and Savannah. The black people that were servers wouldn't even look at me, when I tried to engage them in conversation as I do anybody in public who is helping me, whether in a restaurant or a store, they looked shocked. They were probably saying "she's definetly not from around here."

I can't imagine the mind set of the people who stood up and said enough is enough, when all they had been taught day in and day out is that they are sub human. I don't think I would have been that strong.

Did they know the far reachng effects of their actions? Maybe not but they did it all the same.

This is proof positive that Rosa Parks ain't the only civil rights legend ever. It took a whole lot of black folk to sit down on a whole lot of buses.

How about James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner

these three lost their lives for the cause. They three were true heros.

Those three guys were registering Blacks to vote when they were murdered by the Ku Klux Klan. RO's right. There were more heroes in the Civil Rights than just Rosa Parks.
