I thought you said those stats WERE BULLSHIT?

Now, when it suits you, you use them?

You're a PROVEN FRAUD.

Do you think being murdered with a knife or a club is less traumatic

or something?

Based on this clear attempt to lie with statistics, one must also

wonder if firearm suicides are not also being counted as "murders" on

this bullshit list.

What is kind of interesting about this list however is how the

countries with total gun bans, such as the UK and Australia still have

firearm related murders. How is it possible to have gun murders in

countries that don't have guns? That sure is mysterious.

Nice try pal, but the USA has the highest rate of violent crime in the

western world. How sad it is that the American gun lobby is reduced

to lies and distortions to justify their own failed policies that

result in more,not less violence.

The USA has more than 3 times the homicide rate, and

more than double the assault and burglarly rate than Australia. This

is despite the USA having one of the highest incarceration rates in

the world (imprisonment). By the way, Australia's homicide rate has

dropped significantly since an assault weapon ban a few years ago

after a crazed gunman went on a killing spree in Tasmania.

So I say to all Americans if you want to live in a safer country, you

need to impose stricter gun control laws or move to another country.

2003 Crimes USA Per Australia Per USA % of

Description Number 100,000 Number 100,000 Australia

Population 290,809,777 20,008,700

Homicides 16,582 5.7 341 1.7 335%

Assault 4,606,740 1,584 158,269 791 200%

Robbery 596,130 205 19,709 99 208%

Rape 198,850 68 18,237 91 75%

And what about rape where the USA shows a lower rate? Well

considering only 12 to 20% of rape victims ever report the crime and

victims in the USA would be afraid of a gun toting rapist, I would

suggest you can't read too much into that figure as a reflection of

the total number of rapes.

And for those who don't believe me, you can obtain these official

government stats on:

USA crime stats: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/abstract/cvusst.htm#one

Aus crim stats: http://www.aic.gov.au/publications/facts/2005/facts_and_figures_2005.pdf

A fair point, however, guns are more deadly that other weapons, but

just to appease you I have provided a link that shows the USA once

again leads the western world in homicide rate. Now tell me are you

proud of those stats and do you really believe America is a safer

place than other western countries?

Now wait a minute, don't acuse me of lying about the statistics just

because you are ignorant about what these statistics mean. If you

knew anything about these statistics and the definition of murder, you

will know that suicide is not included in those statistics or the

definition of murder.

Before I go on wasting any more time on you, are you interested in a

serious discussion about the effect of gun laws on violent crime based

on stats or are you more interested in being a parrott who repeats the

same lies the gun lobby brainwashes you with or some antedotal

comments made by a rape victim you met in a bar who feels safer

because she keeps a gun in her crotch 24/7?

Your comment about Australia having a total gun ban is a lie and a

falsehood. Australia has strict gun control laws, but still a

significant percent of the population owns guns.

Now if you want to look at a country that has close to a ban on guns,

use Japan. Now do your own research and come back to me and tell me

and everyone else on this board how Japan's rate of homicide and

violent crimes compare to that of the USA?

Nice try, no point for you. Now I had a look at the official

government crime statistics for the USA and Australia:.

And guess what, the USA has more than 3 times the homicide rate, and

more than double the assault and burglarly rate than Australia. This

is despite the USA having one of the highest incarceration rates in

the world (imprisonment). By the way, Australia's homicide rate has

So I say to all Americans if you want to live in a safer country, you

need to impose stricter gun control laws or move to another country.

2003 Crimes USA Per Australia Per USA % of

Description Number 100,000 Number 100,000 Australia

Population 290,809,777 20,008,700

I don't beleive I did claim that America was safer than other Wesern

countries. Now that you mention it, this greater personal danger in

America seems to be a very good argument in support of personal gun

ownership. It's a scary world, and like the boy scout motto says: "Be

prepared" Therefore, I'm keeping my guns.

> Now wait a minute, don't acuse me of lying about the statistics just

> because you are ignorant about what these statistics mean.

You posted a comparative list of gun violence that included societies

that both allow and don't allow guns. It's a misleading comparison.

It's a statistical analysis designed to support a foregone conclusion.

Less guns=less gun injuries. Is this supposed to be enlightening or

shocking?

I am interested in these comparisons between societies, I'm just

saying the terms being analyzed should be commonly held in all

socieities being evaluated. Overall rates of violent crime, regardless

of weapon used. Or, overall comparisons of murder rates per unit of

population.

> If you

> knew anything about these statistics and the definition of murder, you

Fair enough. That seems to be common sense to me. Unfortunately, I've

seen others abuse the numbers in an effort to make their opinion seem

more strongly supported. Lumping all "gun deaths" together, counting

suicides by firearm, as well as crimes, as well as lawful homicides

involving firearms, into one vast number is not uncommon, and it is

highly misleading.

All the discussion of group statistics is ultimately irrelevant to me.

My life and lberty is not a collective function. You could show me a

mountain of data, but just like that rape victim, I'd still want the

opportunity of protecting myself.

Nice try pal, but the USA has the highest rate of violent crime in the

western world. How sad it is that the American gun lobby is reduced

to lies and distortions to justify their own failed policies that

result in more,not less violence.

The USA has more than 3 times the homicide rate, and

more than double the assault and burglarly rate than Australia. This

is despite the USA having one of the highest incarceration rates in

the world (imprisonment). By the way, Australia's homicide rate has

dropped significantly since an assault weapon ban a few years ago

after a crazed gunman went on a killing spree in Tasmania.

So I say to all Americans if you want to live in a safer country, you

need to impose stricter gun control laws or move to another country.

2003 Crimes USA Per Australia Per USA % of

Description Number 100,000 Number 100,000 Australia

Population 290,809,777 20,008,700

Homicides 16,582 5.7 341 1.7 335%

Assault 4,606,740 1,584 158,269 791 200%

Robbery 596,130 205 19,709 99 208%

Rape 198,850 68 18,237 91 75%

And what about rape where the USA shows a lower rate? Well

considering only 12 to 20% of rape victims ever report the crime and

victims in the USA would be afraid of a gun toting rapist, I would

suggest you can't read too much into that figure as a reflection of

the total number of rapes.

And for those who don't believe me, you can obtain these official

government stats on:

USA crime stats: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/abstract/cvusst.htm#one

Aus crim stats: http://www.aic.gov.au/publications/facts/2005/facts_and_figures_2005.pdf

HELL YEAH!!!!! Stricter gun laws will stop those criminals from breaking the laws!!!

By the way, Australia's homicide rate has

dropped significantly since an assault weapon ban a few years ago

after a crazed gunman went on a killing spree in Tasmania.

So I say to all Americans if you want to live in a safer country, you

need to impose stricter gun control laws or move to another country.

2003 Crimes USA Per Australia Per USA % of

Description Number 100,000 Number 100,000 Australia

Population 290,809,777 20,008,700

Homicides 16,582 5.7 341 1.7 335%

Assault 4,606,740 1,584 158,269 791 200%

Robbery 596,130 205 19,709 99 208%

Rape 198,850 68 18,237 91 75%

And what about rape where the USA shows a lower rate? Well

considering only 12 to 20% of rape victims ever report the crime and

victims in the USA would be afraid of a gun toting rapist, I would

suggest you can't read too much into that figure as a reflection of

the total number of rapes.

And for those who don't believe me, you can obtain these official

government stats on:

Why do you dumbasses think that criminals will stop using guns if guns are outlawed????

I have 3 shotguns, 4 rifles, 6 pistols and a bb gun. Would taking away my weapons that i use for target practice make you safer??
