Lethalfind Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 "Bush Hails Taiwan As Model of Freedom By JENNIFER LOVEN, Associated Press Writer 27 minutes ago http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051116/ap_on_re_as/bush_asia;_ylt=AoqiOGUl4gtLXoIhCnk7cpWs0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA3b3JuZGZhBHNlYwM3MjE- BUSAN, South Korea - Piquing China just days before meetings with its leaders, U.S. President George W. Bush on Wednesday held up the self-governing island of Taiwan that Beijing claims as its own as a model of freedom "at all levels" that the communist giant should emulate. ADVERTISEMENT Bush's speech opening a four-country tour of Asia amounted to a road map of the coming discussions he was to have on a potential bird flu outbreak, global trade, North Korea's nuclear ambitions and other issues at a gathering of Pacific Rim economies in South Korea. Bush arrived in Busan, South Korea, on Wednesday night for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit and a one-on-one meeting with South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun. The president met with his closest Asian ally, Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, in Kyoto, Japan, earlier Wednesday and was traveling to China and Mongolia over the weekend. In remarks sure to irritate his Chinese hosts, Bush prodded the communist nation to grant basic freedoms to its 1.3 billion people and further open its economy. "We encourage China to continue down the road of reform and openness," Bush told an audience that stayed silent until its polite applause at the end. "By meeting the legitimate demands of its citizens for freedom and openness, China's leaders can help their country grow into a modern, prosperous, and confident nation." His challenge to Beijing immediately followed lavish praise of Taiwan. "By embracing freedom at all levels, Taiwan has delivered prosperity to its people and created a free and democratic Chinese society," Bush said. snafu Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 Communist China and N. Korea is a threat to world peace. Money money money? What are you talking about? if you don't want yours I'll take it! What mess is America in? We are the richest Nation in the world. Think about what you say before you bash the president. Dose trade with these counties help you out any? Should we have open and free trade without embargo's? Do you think they will do the same? Quote "You can't stop insane people from doing insane things by passing insane laws. That's just insane!" Lethalfind Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 I'm trying to point out that Bush is trying to cloak his interest in China that he cares about their people. I think his interest is more about Money... Thats all. Quote I am a pathetic piece of shit leeching single mom.
eisanbt Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Capitalism at it's best. Lets us live in our happy little consumor lives (Thank you Henry Ford for 'fair wages') and thanks to globalization we have the wonderful luxery getting other nations to run things like they did in 19th century Britan. Thousands of 4year olds putting toxic chemicals under their noses while assembling Power Rangers then being dropped down the smoke stacks to clean them. What a world to live in, its fun to indirectly end people's lives so I can buy socks for $5 a pack at Walmart. And the indirect part leaves me feeling guilt free! Heck and it's not like China is totalitarian at all!!! My chinease penpal (Whom I can nolonger contact after we started discussing politics..wonder why?) was misinformed about so much. Its sick what they're taught, in University even! She was utterly convinced that because she's female she'll never be able to do sciences or learn languages as well as a man (She was told this throughout life), that Japan was the root of all evil, and Chairman Mao was a god amoung men. Hmm, I think I put in a bit too much sarcasim in this post.... Quote http://www.boohbah.com/zone.html "It's a poor sort of memory that only works backwards" -Lewis Carroll
builder Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 China currently holds 600 billion is US bonds. Japan holds 700 billion. The US economy has never been is a worse situation than right now. Calling yourself the richest nation only proves that your reality does not tie in with factual economic sense. As for open and free trade, that is the reality. If you want to prop up your farmers and auto makers by placing embargos on imports, then you are simply funding a non-profitable empire. That can only go on for so many years. And damn, thats a lot of bonds. They say China will be the next economic super-power. About oil, I just think that the world economy has invested way too much into the Oil business to change to other methods... Think of all those furnaces, cars, etc... eisanbt Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 I got this friend who is super-anarchist extrodinaire. He believes that when oil reserves collapse then thats when aracrhy will take its place, as most governments would collapse. Yes we are hella dependent on oil, but I believe that we'll be able to adapt to another source, not without intitial loss, but not to the point where civilization would collapse. And yah, when you get into the economic mumbo-jumbo of it all, the US is currently in good standing but not HALF of what it used to be. After WW2 the US was running about 50% of global trade, now its at about 20% and falling. I see the middle east crisis as a gamble at trying to regain some of its former power but it won't last terribly long, and the re-coup cost may exceed the gain. However having control of the last precious oil reserves is quite a leverage tool, they've been eyeing Canada as well due to recent discoveries of massive reserves in the North, perhaps the second largest on the planet and untapped. China on the otherhand is running on a long-term plan that will ensure they're firmly entrenched. We in the west have a problem with living in the moment. Hamza123 Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 It's all a matter of time. We just need to patient, and to my knowledge in the coming years many things will start to begin and unfold but the good guys always win in my books! Lets just hope the same happens in the world.
