hopeUslide Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 This is called putting your checkbook where your mouth is. Brooks Army Medical Center Don't know whether you heard about this but Denzel Washington and his family visited the troops at Brook Army Medical Center, in San Antonio,Texas (BAMC) the other day. This is where soldiers that have been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the States, especially burn victims. They have buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher House is a hotel where soldiers' families can stay, for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying in the hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses on base but as you can imagine, they are almost completely filled most of the time. While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build. He took his check book out and wrote a check for the full amount right there on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this story and want to get the word out to the American public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it. The question I have is why does Alec Baldwin, Madonna, Sean Penn and other Hollywood types make front page news with their anti-everything America crap and this doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of any newspaper except the base newspaper in San Antonio. This is called putting your checkbook where your mouth is. Quote

That's because Denzel is a bad ass. The media doesn't give a shit about generous black folk since Oprah bought up all the shares in that market. You're right, except.... we're talking about in comparison. Why are things of lesser value, or importance, persay, top story, when something as incredible as this gets less recognition? True, giving should come from the heart, but if you're going to recognize someone for something, do it for the right people and the right reasons. Quote

I'm a bit jaded about anyone who earns millions for one movie donating to anything. Don't forget the one important fact; they earn so much money, if they don't give it to someone, they lose it to the IRS. Most of them simply employ a massive entourage of hangers-on, to spread their coin further. I recall that Bob Hope, the old comedian, ended up working for nothing. He was taxed at 98 cents in the dollar, so he asked for gifts, like cars and holidays and such, in return for work, so the IRS changed the law, making those gifts taxable. Bob told them to jam it, and worked for nothing. Quote Persevere, it pisses people off.

It gives the incentive for others to give. Maybe it will get more of those millionaires to cough up some dough! Ya know if fanfare is what it takes then I'm all for it.
