I used to have a subscription to this piece of shit newspaper, but day in and day out all one could ever read in it, is about someone smacking someone around, some crack head getting busted, or some other bullshit thing having to do with the daily courthouse news.

 

They always try to make a point on reporting about shit NOBODY gives a rats ass about. If you wanted to read REAL opinions on how people in my home town think, you would need to read the online opinion boards... evidently, the Telegram does not believe in free speech.. On several occasions posts were deleted from the board, I am not talking about defamatory posts either, I am speaking of posts which were very relevant and very frank in there opinions.

 

I along with a couple others were BANNED from the boards because we chose to exercise our constitutional rights to free speech.

 

It really amazes me that a newspaper, which, by all accounts, should be advocates to freedom of speech and freedom of the press, would censor what the community has to say.

 

There are many open discussions about the way business and pleasure is conducted in Columbus, yet, if the wrong persons name is mentioned, the Telegram admin deletes the posts.

 

One of the issues is the proposal for a new viaduct in town, most of Columbus' residents feel that we as tax payers should have a vote on this, yet our fine town committee seems to think that THEY should be the ones deciding. Hard opinions start to fly, and next thing you know, censorship occurs..The commitee knows what's best... after all we voted for them.. .

 

Yet none of them care what people REALLY have to say !!

I too used to subscribe to this rag but it was the same old shit over and over. Any real news is watered down so as not to offend certain people in the community. I don't have any desire to renew this unless it gets cheeper to buy this rag then toilet paper because all it would really be good for is wiping asses.

 

The forum page was one way to see how other people in the community really felt but like you said that gets censored also.

 

I like where you are going with this and if they ever bring the board back up you'll have to post a link to this thread.

I don't buy the telegram, never subscribed to it... didn't care. When I first moved down here 8 years ago, my inlaws told me, get the telegram so you know whats going on around here. I said WHY?? I am not from here, I don't know those people, and I don't care!

 

After 8 years, I go on the web site to check to see if anyone my inlaws know died... and to look at the piss poor selection of new jobs advertised. maybe an occasional garage sale or something to do with sports. I can do all of this on line..FREE... and not pay those dumb asses a cent.

 

I have several people say... go to work for the telegram and do thier ad's for them.. .NO WAY IN HELL!!! I know to many people who have, and they said they are just a bunch of crooks who don't give a shit if you have an experience or talent, they will go behind you, change your shit and do thier way anyhow.

 

Don't get me started on the Telegram... might take me all day to run down thier lack of efficiencies for this commuity.

When there are serious issues reguarding Columbus you could go to the opinion board more than the paper to let you know better what was going on.

We used to buy a subscription for my Mom but she doesn't even want it anymore. The online version doesn't even run correctly lately. I've no reason to read it any longer without the opinion page.

If you post on the HOT TOPICS column of the paper, JIM DEAN will only allow posts that he wants to be seen shown, so don't think you are EVER getting an accurate debate from posts that are presented

 

Jim Dean sets his own agenda, so your "VOICE" will probably not matter...

Why I left the board:

 

 

 

First of all, I REALLY hate it when people speculate. I did NOT leave because of anything Jim Dean has done to me.

 

I left because of something I see happening.... GOOD PEOPLE are not getting a fair voice in the public.

 

While I openly admit I love to stir up a commotion, and I love to be very frank and controversial, the root of all my actions is to generate various conversations from the community, and to stimulate people into giving heartfelt and well thought out opinions concerning the community they live in.

 

I have witnessed posts created by posters other then myself, get removed from not only the opinion boards, but the hot topics column of the online version of the paper.

 

Posts that not only complied with the community standards that Jim Dean himself set, but contained content in which the poster only gave their honest view of the topics.

 

I found no such evidence of SLANDER, DEROGATORY REMARKS, COURSE LANGUAGE, LIBEL, DEFAMETORY COMMENTS, OR EVEN ANYTHING RESEMBLING SO MUCH AS AN INSULT in these people's post..

 

But what I DID find, that what they all had in common, is these posts ALL contained thoughts, ideas, and suggestions that were in opposition to conceptual ideas created by Jim Dean or members of the Telegram staff.

 

In short... he didn't like peoples opinions, so he censored them from public view...

 

Not as easy to do in the opinion board, as it is in the "HOT TOPICS" column and feedback fields, which is where these posts were..

 

BLATANT BIAS !!

 

Why Mr. Dean ??

 

Why were people like Pete Buttaro amongst other, censored from stating their opinions ??

 

In the hidden forums of GF is a discussion where I had brought up the comment made by Mr. Buttaro... I, along with many other members of the Columbus online community, are witness to you removing it from the public's eye.

 

A comment that could originally be found

Mr. Dean, I challenge you to put that comment back where it originally was so that OTHERS can scrutinize over what I am saying..

 

It was the VERY FIRST comment posted. Do not tell me it is now forever gone, because I know better.

 

Let people see what it is, that you felt had no business being on the board..

 

BETTER YET... LETS CALL UP MR. BUTTARO HIMSELF AT 402-562-5509 and ask him PERSONALLY what it was that you deleted.

 

But then, this is just one example of many..

 

A trend that I and others like myself, are getting fed up with..

 

But, instead of making an issue out of it on the Columbus boards, where, like many other posts, it is subject to being deleted, I chose a different approach. I chose to leave..

 

I did this for one reason only.... to legitimize my claim of censorship among board posters.

 

If I would have simply stated that posters are being censored, the topic would have simply desintegrated into people accusing me of being upset with Mr. Dean for censoring myself... which isn't the case...

 

So instead, I chose to remove what was left of 4 years worth of posts by me, and remove the topics which I had started, and leave the board..

 

I can not bring myself to be a part of a community board where I have to second guess whether my fellow posters are being censored and blocked from stating their own opinions because they do not coincide with the views of the Editor or any others who are in control of the boards administration..

 

And again, I need to ask Mr. Dean.... does he want an opinion board... or does he want a board where people can only agree with his perspective..

 

The COLUMBUS TELEGRAM is a journalistic entity that is privately owned. Mr. Dean has the right to put anything he wants on the board, and has a right to post any comments he likes...

 

HIS YARD, HIS RULES...

 

But one needs to ask themselves... would you want to be a part of a home town community board where your opinion may not be heard because the owner doesn't like your perspective ??

 

Personally, I would rather he spend his time scrutinizing and deleting my crude behavior, then scrutinizing over the opinions of the good people of Columbus.

 

THAT is why I trashed all my posts.. it might be YOUR yard, but it is MY CREATIVE CONTENT, just like the pictures he bitched about me using, I do not want the Columbus Telegram using content created by me without my permission. So I removed it.

 

In summary, I will never again comment on the Telegram boards or the "HOT TOPICS", nor any other comment section of the board, unless I can be assured that it is Moderated properly, and in an UNBIASED fashion... thank you..and I apoligize for being a Gung-Ho Liberal bastard.

 

But I will make this an issue with the WORLD if I have to Mr. Dean

Phreak is speaking the truth, I have seen it for myself, Jim Dean is withholding public opinion, and swaying public consenus on alot of topics.
