Need help call Phreak

Hey how do i fix or can I? When i'm logged in if i don't move around the forum, it logs me out. Is there a time out i can adjust, like a screen saver or am i stuck? Remember i'm a computer idiot so keep answer simple. Like if i get a phone call when i come back on, i'm out then i can't tell what I've read and what's still new....HELP:confused:

I don't get that problem at all. Do you tick the box that asks if you want to be remembered? Sounds like a cookie issue to me.

 

As for finding what is going on, particularly in threads you have posted in, click on your own name, and select 'find all posts by tiredofwhiners'.

yes, I'd try clearing your cookies first and make sure you check the box that says to remember you.

Thanks dudes cleared cookies then started clicking remember me box, so far no problems. I thought the remember me box was for auto log in, so i never checked it before. But even when i check it each time i go out, i have to type my info back in. I'll get this shit figured out.

Phreak…. If I have a home network setup and it crashes it has to be the hardware and not my networking correct?

Depends on what you mean by crashes.

 

I lost the networking for my brothers cp’s. I tried to redo it but it won’t take.

Lost it, as in it was working once but then quit I assume ?? Have you tried logging into the router from each computer ?? Have you checked the cables for damage ??

 

It still goes on line though. I’m thinking it still may be the router though. And at my house I have it to were my son has the router and I’m wireless. But my printer is connected to my cp. When I try to print from his computer there is a very long lag. I think I need a new router for both problems but I don’t want to go out and buy them if I don’t need them. Thanks

When your networked, the print server has to buffer the entire job before it can start sending to the printer itself. One of the things you can try if you haven't already is : START->Control Panel->Printers&Faxes->Set printer Properties>Advanced TAB and choose PRINT DIRECTLY TO PRINTER.. Hopefully that will fix the prob, if not, consult with Bob, he's the networking guru. Not exactally sure what else could be causing it, but I doubt it is the router in either case.

Yeah I guess what I meant by crash is that it is no longer there. My brothers aren't to computer savay so I don't know if they messed with it but I tried to reset the network and it wouldn't take.

I didn't even think about the router software. I will try both of your suggestions

One is a normal desktop PC, the other a laptop that connects to the router(then out to the internet) wirelessly. I installed NetBIOS through the "Local Area Network" properties to get the 2 computers to communicate with each other. They didn't recognize each other, so I decided to go and setup the network through control panel. The only problem is: I don't know if I should setup as "home or small office network" or "wireless network". I have thought of getting a wireless NIC so that the computers can communicate directly to each other, but I don't necessarily know if this will work. Can you help?

If you want them to share files and printer you need to do home or small office network. the wireless network is just for the laptop getting on line. And make sure you trun off the firewall. then turn it back on after your done. It makes it easer. And make sure the "don't allow exections" in unchecked in the fire wall settings. That was my mistake today.

I tipped it upside down on top of a towel and left it overnite.

 

The sound didn't drop out for a few days after that. It may even be unrelated to the spillage, cause christ knows it wasn't the first time.
