snafu Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 We had a rule to never shot high. I guess that’s why I got shot in the groin one time. I believe that was our last BB gun fight. Do you ever listen to the Police Scanner? If you did you would be scared shitless. There’s something happening literally every night. A lot of the time it's just down the steet where I live. And these aren't gangs. There theves, murders, crack heads and just plain belligerent drunks. That’s what makes me keep my Colt 45 under my bed at nights. Lethalfind Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 I have a security system and live in an area where things rarely happen. However just about 15 minutes down the road there was a home invasion where they beat to death 5 people they found in the house, I think they also used knives. Of course this was not a random act, the attackers knew the people they attacked. The seasoned law enforcement that dealt with the case said it was like nothing they had ever seen, some of the people were beaten so badly they had to be identified with their dental records. I am a single woman living alone with an 8 year old. I am frightened to be honest to NOT have a gun at home. If I thought my Homeowners Assocation wouldn't say anything I would put my targets from my practices on my front door as a warning. My friend and I did that in Texas when we were being harrassed by someone and of course no one thought a thing of it but things are different here in Florida. I grew up around guns, in that my Father always had a 38 in his night stand, when we traveled he carried it in the car or motor home with us (illegally), there was always a shotgun behind the door and when we lived in Texas there was a rifle, pistol grip shotgun and a regular shotgun. It just never occurred to me to touch them at all. I never handled my Fathers gun until I was 30 when he showed me how to use it. I was going to be alone at their rather large house for about a month so it seemed like the sensible thing to do. Quote I am a pathetic piece of shit leeching single mom.

For me, it's just a personal choice...nothing more. I understand and as a man I can see where you might not feel as vulnerable as I do. A baseball bat would no doubt get taken from me and used to beat my brains in before I could get in one swing. Between back problems and a hollow part in the bone of my right arm, I simply couldn't defend myself in that situation. I see Guns as the great equalizer. TheJenn88 Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 When I was young (21), I had guns out the ass. Rifles, shotguns, handguns, assualt weapons with bipods... Then, I got married and my first child was arriving. All of the guns that I owned were sold. Was a nice wad of cash. Used it to outfit my first son with the best of everything including the nursery. I guess when your career included the carrying and use of weapons for 20+ years of your life, the fascination wore off. I won't even handle a gun anymore. It makes me feel ill. Nowadays, there are no guns in my house and never will be. I raise my sons with my belief that guns are single purposed; for killing. Seeing as how I am over death, killing, and such, for me this is a good thing. Luckily, they agree. We do have a collection of water squirters though and they provide much fun in the summertime. What about home defense? I don't need it. At worst, Mr. Louisville Slugger and I can handle pretty much anything, but then again if somebody had broken into my home and I encountered them, I would probably just offer them what they wanted, money, food, help, an ear to bend. At least I would not shoot them. I shot way to many people in my life and I never want to shoot anybody ever again. Ever. I don't really have anything to say except "" and "thank you" Quote

Lethalfind Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 The news here in Orlando area just stated the gun this kid has was a BB gun. It sounds like he might have tried to commit suicide by cop. The cop shot him in the head and he is on a breathing machine at Arnold Palmer hospital, I don't imagine he will make it. They are speaking of a history of depression. So evidently he didn't bring a real hand gun to school. If my child was in the school with this kid, I would be thanking the officer who fired that shot. There were 1100 students and faculty in that school. Quote I am a pathetic piece of shit leeching single mom.
ImWithStupid Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Sounds like "Suicide by Cop" to me. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060114/ap_on_re_us/school_evacuated LONGWOOD, Fla. - An eighth-grader was shot and wounded by a SWAT team officer in a school bathroom Friday after he pulled out a pellet gun that resembled a real weapon and later raised it at a deputy, authorities said. Sheriff Don Eslinger said the 15-year-old boy brought the gun to Milwee Middle School in his backpack. Eslinger said two students saw it and one persuaded the other to report it, causing a scuffle. The alleged gunman ordered one of the students into a closet, dimmed the lights and ran from the classroom. He then went around the campus carrying the weapon, Eslinger said. Deputies eventually isolated him in a restroom, and the school was evacuated. Eslinger said negotiators tried unsuccessfully to start a dialogue with the boy, identified as Christopher David Penley. "He did not respond," Eslinger said. "He refused to even comment. All he said was his first name. He did not drop the firearm." When the boy raised the gun at a deputy, he shot the youth, the sheriff said. Penley was taken to a hospital, where he was on "advanced life support," the sheriff said. "He was suicidal," Eslinger said. "During this standoff, and during the chase, the student said he was going to kill himself or die." At one point, the boy held the gun to his own neck. It's very unfortunate when someone chooses to take their own life, especially someone this young who may not really be able to grasp the finality of this choice. Quote

I can't think this was anything but suicide by cop, what reaction did he expect from authorities. Schools around here go on lockdown with the slightest provocation. He could very easily have pointed out this was only a bb gun if he wanted them to know it. the news here said he was shot in the head. Quote I am a pathetic piece of shit leeching single mom.
ImWithStupid Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 This exert along with the fact that he didn't communicate with law enforcement's attempts to talk and that he pointed the gun at the officer. At a news conference after the shooting, authorities put the weapon side-by-side with a Beretta. It appeared to have black paint covering the red or pink markings on the muzzle that may have indicated to officers that it was a nonlethal weapon. "As you can see, it doesn't take a professional to see how close this looks to the real thing. I would not be able to tell the difference," said Joyce Dawley, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement special agent in charge of the investigation. Education is the key! both of my kids,13 and 7, know gun safety. my 13 yo can load and shoot all of my weapons. she hasn't tried the .44 mag. yet. she can also shoot my .22 rifle almost as well as i can. maybe she likes guns so much because my wife and i went target shooting with a 12 gauge and a .45 when she was 8-9 ms pregnant.my wife said it felt like she was running laps when she fired them. Jhony5 Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I do not own a gun, but am a member of the NRA. Why don't you own a gun? After what we've seen in the aftermath of Katrina and many other events in the last few decades, it takes so little to turn our fragile society on its ear. Its so hard to imagine our society getting so fucked up that one would not dare leave their home, but look at what little it takes to create such a situation. A massive power outage is all it would take to send people into the streets in a furious riot. With the impending threat of a massive terrorist attack, we should all ask ourselves if we are ready to deal with life, whether for 1 day or 1 year, without the protection of police. Or without the conveniance of feeding our family via McDonalds. The weak and conformed liberal fools in America laugh at those of us whom own many firearms and know how to kill and clean our food. Who know how to make a functional shelter in the backwoods. If a catastrophic event, whether localized or broad reaching, struck their area then they would become just like those ******s during Katrina, with their hands held out asking for help and dying while sitting still.
