Lethalfind Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Do you think its sexest for an employer to require women to wear dresses at work? I can understand an employer having certain rules about how well you have to dress, such as not allowing shorts and jeans or mid drift shirts and sleeveless tank tops. That is their right, however I do think this bullshit of making a staff dress so professionally when they don't deal face to face with the customers is stupid but of course still their right. If you don't like it you can find a job elsewhere. I worked in a call center for years, as in a place where no patients every clapped eyes on us. The dress code was just a way of the director announcing her presence with authority. It was not company wide, only in her department was it so strict. Of course I did it while I was there and have not dressed like that since. My next job allowed jeans on Friday and all week I was welcome to wear scrubs, that was so fuckin nice. Buying alot of fancy clothes for work can be expensive, things I would never wear outside of work. HOWEVER, I don't think its right for someone to make a sexest statement that a woman should have to wear a dress to work and not be allowed to wear pants unless the day has been declared casual. If pants or trousers are good enough for the men they why is this not good enough for the women as well? What say you? Quote I am a pathetic piece of shit leeching single mom.
RoyalOrleans Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 What say you? What say me? I say alot of bullshit. On this matter, I have to say that dress codes at work are essential to maintaining the company's values and perception in the eyes of their customers, their competitors, and the public. Hence the Brown Suit I slide on every single day. UPS does not supply skirts in brown for the deliverywomen. Thus, I have to believe that a woman can wear the same outfit as a man. fullauto Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 I have been at jobs that tell you men MUST wear a suit... and likewise, if they were to say women must wear dresses, I wouldn't see a problem with that... That's equality... be careful what you wish for, it just may come true! Quote Liberals... Saving the world one semester at a time "I'm not a racist... I'm a realist! Lethalfind Posted January 25, 2006 Author Posted January 25, 2006 I have been at jobs that tell you men MUST wear a suit... and likewise, if they were to say women must wear dresses, I wouldn't see a problem with that... That's equality... be careful what you wish for, it just may come true! How is it equality that a woman has to wear a dress, when a man can wear a suit? Their not the same thing. Woman can in this culture wear suits with pants, why is this not satisfactory? If we're talking about true equality then women should be able to wear a suit with pants. Requiring a woman to wear a dress is in and of itself sexest. I have no issue with women being required to dress nicely for work just like men, that of course is only fair. Even nurses aren't required to wear nursing uniforms with dresses. As RO has stated UPS doesn't require it, I can see the Postal Service doesn't require it. Cogito Ergo Sum Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Well, I'm for all men dressed in company provided Armani suits, older ladies in either nice dresses or pantsuits, and all young beautiful women in the office should wear their company provided French Maids uniforms complete with fishnet stockings with those hot little suspenders, garter belts, and the lacy accouterments. eisanbt Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 And if a man comes to work in a skirt? Where does the company stand on that; If its "No no" then the discrimination is both ways, or depending how your outlook, none existant. If you believe in gender specification then theres no problem, but don't be so arrogent as to think gender roles in society limit only women. eisanbt Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 My point wasn't about gender appropiate dress in such a way, it was that were a man to come into your work in a dress (As is required/accepted for female workers) He would probably be more scoulded then a female counterpart who shows up in a pants. In this way, the gender bias is not female limited. Quote http://www.boohbah.com/zone.html "It's a poor sort of memory that only works backwards" -Lewis Carroll

Cogito Ergo Sum Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Could you please send me a job application. I want to work here. My Grandfather, (my mother's dad), was from Italy. I have several hundred photographs of him from his youth at about 20 until his death at 80. My friends like to look at all of them as well. My favorite part of showing them to people, is waiting for them to realize that he was always in a suit. Always. Every single picture he's in a suit. Usually with a hat. Imagine that. Yeah, I want to work at that company too! Quote . I put no stock in religion. By the word "religion" I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every denomination be called the will of god. Because of this! http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/4043/queenandsoldiers0ko.jpg Notice anything funny about the Colonel to the left of the Queen? heh, I've seen this pic b4 on a UK topical quiz show called 'Have I got News for You'. Look at the fuckers face, he knew what he was doing. There's an English stand-up called Alan Davidson who tells a story (apparently true) about a friend of his who worked at a factory which was due for a visit by the queen. When the queen goes on a visit of this kind, it is a requirement that a bathroom is set aside for Her Majesty's use only. It seems that Davidson's mate was in charge of maintainenance for this toilet, and after she left, he went in to clean it, and found a pube on the seat, which he put in a matchbox and kept as a souvenir.
