phreakwars Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 TUESDAY, Jan. 24 (HealthDay News) -- Although the prescription weight-loss medication known as Xenical may soon be available over the counter, some doctors are questioning the drug's value. Those experts include some officials at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration who say there is insufficient evidence that Xenical (orlistat) actually works in the long term. And one critic believes the drug could be unsafe in an over-the-counter setting. Read on: http://www.forbes.com/lifestyle/health/feeds/hscout/2006/01/24/hscout530547.html . . Lethalfind Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 I know someone who has taken xenical, she told me that at the time she was taking it, it helped. Of course when she stopped her weight went back up. That is only normal considering she didn't try to stick to a weight loss program. Her doctor actually gave her the medication to help with chronic constipation which was a side effect of her cholestorol medication if I remember correctly. This is an unlabeled (not approved for this use by the FDA) use for the drug so she of course was obliged to pay for it out of pocket. She at no time changed her diet and in spite of this lost 5-10 lbs a month while she was on it. I don't think there is a magic pill that will make a person loose weight. Until they find a pill that you can take for the rest of your life so you can still shovel in the over sized portions of crap food that we Americans are so fond of, weight will continue to be a problem...in my opinion Quote I am a pathetic piece of shit leeching single mom.
angie Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 And one critic believes the drug could be unsafe in an over-the-counter setting. I think any and all drugs on the market can be unsafe OTC if not taken properly. Drinking on a regular basis, with Tylenol thrown into the mix, can cause liver failure, coma, and a variety of other ailments. Even social drinkers are at risk. http://www.postgradmed.com/issues/2000/01_00/draganov.htm Not to mention people mixing drugs without reading labels and turns out OOPS!-there's an adverse effect if ya mix those two, but hey you were too stupid to read the labels! Anything can be dangerous if not used properly. I say let the dumb fat fucks kill themselves if they choose to. Lethalfind Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 From what I have read you can get a similar effect from taking Pectin. It occurs naturally in apples but how many apples can a person eat? You can get a capsule of it at the health food store. Quote I am a pathetic piece of shit leeching single mom.

Get sat on when you were small? This 5' 5" 160lb fat fuck weighed 105/115 all through life till 5 years ago. Meds slapped 40lbs on me in 2 weeks! I've never been able to get rid of it, I don't like it. But I don't like being referred to as a dumb fat fuck! I've thought many times about trying some of these weight loss drugs but am leary of the results. Fat may not be the only thing I lose. But then that wouldn't bother you would it. Quote

My problem is the fat arses who have kids who end up being fat because they push their disgusting lard-ridden lazy lifestyles on their children who live that way when they become adults because they don't know any different, and then BAM! Next thing you know EVERYONE is going to be fat. I'm sick and tired of going somewhere and hearing some lazy ass complain about how big their ass is while stuffing their face with a King-Size chocolate bar or a Double Quarter Pounder with cheese. Sounds like you need to explore your options with the meds. Does the damage the weight does to your body outweigh the advantage of the meds? Perhaps you could stop going to McDonald's. I can't quite figure out why someone else's weight should upset you so much. Must be tough being so perfect in an imperfect world I guess. Quote

This isn't the only thread that she's bitching about fat people. Just because someone is skinny doesn't mean they are healthy. I weigh 98 pounds right now and I can assure you I'm not a picture of health, but most people ASSUME that I am. If your eating McD's, I don't see you as any better than the very people you are judging. I've said it before and I'll repeat it to you, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. angie Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 What a bunch of crybabies. And I rarely eat at McDonald's. I was referring to a few women I used to work with. They would go to McDonald's on their lunchbreak and bring it back to work. Obviously you have a problem with the weight thing too, otherwise you wouldn't be so sensitive about it. I'm not sensitive about it. I judge a person by their chararcter, not their weight. But don't bring something to the debate room if you don't want to be challenged on it. But don't bring something to the debate room if you don't want to be challenged on it. I didn't bring anything. Not that I care either way. And I don't 'judge' people by their weight. I have friends who are overweight. I don't harass them about it because it IS their choice but it irritates me because they' re doing so much damage to their bodies and are going to end up dead a hell of a lot sooner than I would like. The majority of overweight people I know have chronic ailments due to the excess weight, some of them serious (i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure). I don't like seeing them unnecessarily sick because they'd rather sit in front of a pc or tv eating fast food than go for a walk and eat a halfway decent home cooked meal. scout Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 You seem to be a very sensitive fat fuck. When I was thin I didn't appreciate people jumping on over weight people. I don't like anyone making derogatory remarks about anyone just because they have made choices that they wouldn't make for themselves. True, I don't care for someone that, as Angie says, has a lunch of candy bars and Big Macs and complains about their weight while doing it. To them I'd say, Do something about it or I don't want to hear it. I have a sister that has had a weight problem all her life, yet you'd have to tie her down to make her sit still. Constantly on the go, constantly working, I just don't know what else she could do to get thinner. My brother has the same problem, same deal. I got the "genes" from the skinny side of the family so didn't have that problem. So yeah, I may be a little sensitive. What about it? Quote

Lethalfind Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 The difference is I DON'T CARE what other people think. Let them say what they want. The pot is calling the kettle black. I'm sorry Ang but maybe I am misunderstanding something here. I don't disagree with your assessment of people who are overweight. However its not always something thats easy for people to control. Loosing weight can be difficult and complicated depending on what other medical problems a person has. If a person does have a medical condition they are never supposed to try and diet without the advice of that doctor. The whole weight loss process can become expensive even if you don't want drugs. BUT your saying this and you smoke?? You have a simple choice, don't put the cigarette to your lips...You need to stop worrying about your overweight friends and figure out what your going to tell your precious daughter when (not if) you get cancer or some other problem related to your smoking. I told my birth Mother that I thought her smoking was incredibly selfish of her, she had no business having children and then doing something as self destructive as smoking. As a Mother and Grandmother she has a responsibility to her family, one that she can't live up to if she is dead from Cancer... She stopped smoking after 30 years... I guess she thought she might like to see Diane, her granddaughter walk down the aisle someday. My birthmother is young enough she could feasably live to see her great grandchildren. RoyalOrleans Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 I do several things that are bad for me; I drink, smoke, and I have a penchant for Little Debbie cakes. However, I eat fast food maybe once a year. I am in better shape than I was while I was in my beloved Corp. I've got the body of a taught Swedish butterchurner. Never said I was perfect, either. I quit smoking pot, I quit using coke, two down, one to go. All in good time. I try to keep it to just a few each day. Still bad for me, yes. Try to make up for it by eating a superhealthy diet and exercising minimum 3 times a week, more if baby allows me the time. But we're getting a routine started, should be back up to par in no time.
