I'm probably going to end up feeling like a moron after asking this, but- exactly WHERE did this little tiff all begin? I am a bit confused (it's becoming quite a habit of mine these last few weeks)

 

I haven't got a clue...I was just walking by this bar, happened to look inside, and there were tables and chairs being thrown around the room.

 

I just thought I'd jump in for a little fun.

Moderator - one who presides over an assembly, meeting or discussion

 

Of course the route word in moderator is moderate

 

Moderate - avoiding extremes of behavior or expression: observing reasonable limits: tending toward the mean or average amount or dimension: professing or characterizing by political or social beliefs that are not extreme: to become less violent, severe or intense.

 

Any of this definition ring a bell with anyone where our moderators are concerned??

Funny, I have the exact same edition, and in mine there are more definitions than the ones you used available. Guess they didn’t fit into the point you were making…

Such as:

Moderate – To lessen the intensity or extremeness of (the idiots on this board)

Now, in this dictionary, whose principle copyright date is ’93, though it was reprinted in 2002, do you think they took moderating internet forums into account?

 

Let’s look at the word manager.

Manage – to make and keep compliant; to work upon or try to alter for a purpose; to direct the professional career of; the schooling or handling of a horse.

 

Now, go to the manager where you work and tell them they are not doing their job because they do not meet several of the requirements set forth by the root word of manager according to Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, Tenth edition.

 

We are not presiding over a divorce, or court settlement of some sort. As individuals, and as posters, we are as much entitled to our opinion and ‘freedom of expression’ as you are. As moderators, we make sure the plebs do not kill each other. We look at your posts in an objective manor. This does not mean agreeing with, or refraining from commenting on, your posts. We make sure no death threats are made and we watch for trolls. If someone is being an idiot we box them. This does not happen when we disagree with your view. If it is a simple as a political disagreement, than we use our posting/intellectual power rather than our moderating powers. The main thing you should remember is that we came about having this position because of our ability to debate effectively, not because of our ability to be neutral.

 

If you still have a problem with the way we moderate this board, you can always take it up with Principle Bob.

The things that I say on this board are exactly what I mean to say. I have no persona, and I do not insult for the hell of it. If I think someone is being irrational, then I say so. What impedes conversation are those individuals who feel everyone who disagrees with them is out to get them; the ones who take offence and write even more incoherently, rather than explain themselves in a way that is more sane and understandable.

 

LOL, I'm not trying to WIN anything. I am simply voicing an opinion. Pure and simple. Part of my contention is that you shouldn't be on the internet if you can't take hearing how people really feel, rather then made up angst, the real thing.

Personally, I can take hearing what anyone on this site has to say and give it back two-fold. You are the one that has proven to be a bit touchy when hearing what others really think. I can think of one example now…This thread.

You are self important, self absorbed and mentally ill...other then computer programming and building, I can do just about anything better then you can, HOWEVER I would not take on the task of being a so called moderator on this sight. Your way of dealing with people is not something I would do even if there was money in it for me.

Your behavior is a detraction to this sight rather then an asset.

Maybe you should pay a visit to the Phreakwars who roams around on The Admin Zone, or Extreme Tech Support , then maybe you might get a very different impression of the kind of person I am. Don't be so generalized about what you THINK might be my major malfunction. You are only experiencing the Phreakwars of GF. As for moderating this site, it takes alot more creativity and linguistic talent then you would think. Actual moderating is a joke. I do not moderate this site at all. If you think for some reason that I am not performing my duty's as needed, then perhaps you are not aware of what my actual dutys are.

 

Typical moderator: delete offensive posts, keep topics from being derailed, be supportive of new members, exhibit control over site disputes between members, remove problem members from the community.

 

GF MOD: Protect free speech, and be a dick, and nothing more.

The reality is, it is very hard to allow people to freely express themselves and not get under someone else's skin, or offending them. My tactic... create drama over trivial matters to draw attention away from serious topics.

 

I have no intention of making anybody ever feel like they are in a warm inviting atmosphere when they come to this site. The people who stay here or support us are people who enjoy the community we have created and come to converse with fellow assholes. As was stated by me MANY MANY months ago, if you can't take all the insulting and taunting we do to each other on this site, then you are not wanted here anyway.

 

Again, of course my behavior on this site is a distraction, I do not want people to take this site serious at all, I want people to just simply say what is on their mind. If I am taunting anybody it is to make them open up a bit more, if they can't handle it, then good ridance.

 

As for the topics getting boring... don't blame me, blame the world.

 

We reach our peaks when there is drama in the world, this board is political and religious topic oriented, and thrives on human suffering and injustice. It is NOT made to just insult each other.

Again Tori, you got things all wrong. You make these inflated claims about what someone has supposedly said in order to detract from the subject at hand. WHICH is my point. How does this help in a discussion? I'm sure it makes you feel better in a childish sort of way but does it encourage the free exchange of how people think about things?? NO, it doesn't.

Any members you'd like to complain about, too? It seems like you're targeting them just because they're moderators. I can think of people on this site whose ass I'd much rather shove a stick up instead of phreak's. They are no different of a poster than your or me - except they have a slightly different duty, and that is to bring interest and perspective to this site to keep it going.

I want to also take this time to take up issue with her definition of "MENTALLY ILL".

 

I was not aware that having post traumatic stress disorder somehow puts a crutch on my ability to perform my duties. I have been living my life with this affliction for well over 8 years now, while I do have difficulty focusing my mind, it is only when trying to learn something new. I.E.. COLLEGE.. And also, while I do sleep very little, I have learned to adapt to my sleeping patterns. I am able to perform no only the moderating of this site, but also tend to 2 jobs (manager at one and kitchen supervisor at the other), a home business which does quite well, and have managed to save a considerable amount of money to invest in a business franchise with NO LOANS from the bank... Can you say the same for yourself ?? None of which require the "MAD COMPUTER SKILLZ" I have.

 

If my "ILLNESS" does anything, it gives me a more cynical view on life. And, it has also shown me that people like YOU exist in this world. People who are prejudice against others because they think the other person is not capable of performing well in life because of a mental affliction.

 

Personally, I'm quite sick of your crying about it and don't wanna hear anymore from you in this post. Voting over, and the democratic people have spoken..
