Feckless Wench Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 What pisses me off? Cat's piss, that's what. Admittedly I have too many cats, 9 to be precise. Personally I would rehome the majority of the bastids in a flash...but the kids would never forgive me. One of these cats is rather old, she will piss on ANYTHING soft and that includes plastic bags left on the floor, tangles of electrical wiring (although how the fuck she hasn't electrocuted herself yet I will never know), clothes left on the floor or on chairs....ANYTHING! I've just spent the past hour cleaning up the computer room, one of the few rooms that this cat actually has access to. My hubby had been rebuilding our marine tank and had left stuff all over the place. Needless to say, the room stank of cat pee. I found mouse heads behind my PC, a mouse tail behind the hubby's PC and worst of all, I picked up a bag of fish tank bits and pieces and got covered in pee where the damn cat had relieved herself on it! Argh! All this in just ONE night! Thank God the room has a hard floor and can be mopped, the thought of it being carpeted isn't worth bothering with. Anyone want a pissy cat? The pissy cat herself Quote Dementia is just a state of mind.
tizz Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Funny you should say that, I was thinking how much I hate cat piss just now! I have been helping someone clean their house to sell it this week and I got to the spare bathroom to find that she had tried to clean the litter box in the bathtub. BAD idea. There was a pile of black litter stuck to the tub and piss and shit and litter all over the floor. I cleaned it via hot water and steam. Problem is, with the steam rising came the hideous wretched vile stench of cat piss. I have a raging headache right now and I still have to go finish the bathroom tomorrow. If I wasn't getting paid and if I didn't know the woman has health issues and can't finish the job herself I would NEVER go back CATS SUCK Quote "An intelligence that is not humane is the most dangerous thing in the world" Ashley Montague "No one should have to walk alone" Phuong Du "An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" Ghandi "If I were asked to define an American in a single phrase, I would say 'An American is a person who has the right to be different' and I think that right is growing" William Manchester
skategreen Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Once upon a time there was a nasty smell in The Screecher's room. Daddy was crawling around on his hands and knees trying to find the bad smell. Suddenly, he hollered out swear words about the cat and quickly ran to the bathroom, whereupon he vomited. I remember it well. Nine cats is too many. Time to make soup. Feckless Wench Posted March 7, 2006 Author Posted March 7, 2006 Oh jeez tizz, thanks for reminding me of THAT smell.....bleagh! I learnt early on NEVER to clean a cat box out with HOT water, eeew I can still smell it now! Quote Dementia is just a state of mind.
Lethalfind Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 We take the litter pan and empty the bulk out of it into a trash bag, then we take the pan outside and wash it out with a hose so that ALL the litter is gone. Then I bring it inside (this bit I have to do because I try to keep Diane away from Bleach) and I put it in my shower and I spray the inside with Bleach and Fabreze, I don't know feckless if they have that in the UK but Fabreze can help alot of odor problems, I get the kind that is made for pet odor. I have more of a problem with my dog, she is 12 now and just doesn't give a damn about where she relieves herself. She never really has but it has gotten worse with age. I am very sensitive about smells so I put not only the cat litter in the litter box but I also put baking soda in there to help with the smell. We are using that clumping litter so you can scoop out the clumps of cat pee so that helps keep it from smelling to badly but it gets scattered ALL over the floor when they walk out of the litter box. Right now we have two cats and one dog. I like cats but I don't think I will ever have more then two again and I don't plan on getting anymore dogs. tizz Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 At the point this box must have been when she went to clean it in the bath tub (mind you I think it had been there at least a week or so when I got to it) I would have trashed the whole box, gone down the street an bought a new one LOL Quote "An intelligence that is not humane is the most dangerous thing in the world" Ashley Montague "No one should have to walk alone" Phuong Du "An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" Ghandi "If I were asked to define an American in a single phrase, I would say 'An American is a person who has the right to be different' and I think that right is growing" William Manchester

Try putting some of that Carpet Fresh stuff into the literbox. Most kinds are made with baking soda, so it helps neutralize the odor while adding a fresh floral scent. I had a litter maid but I didn't like it and it frightened the cats, however that was a different set of cats...maybe I should bring it out again. I had been letting them go in the back yard but recently stopped them and they are fuckin pissed !! Whining at the doors to get out. Quote I am a pathetic piece of shit leeching single mom.
Feckless Wench Posted March 8, 2006 Author Posted March 8, 2006 My cats tend to 'go' outdoors....well, most of them do anyway. I try not to keep a litter box in the house due to the pong. I have a cat door so they can come and go as they please. The carpet fresh granules we get in the UK are based on ground glass, not very safe for the cats! Nice cat BTW RO. Lethalfind Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 There's almost nothing nastier than the smell of when cat's spray-blegh... Both of my cats are fixed and do not spray so it doesn't have the pungent order when the male cat is not fixed and he's trying to leave a calling card. Lethalfind Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Tell me about it, that calling card sure doesn't go unnoticed. Anytime I have had male kittens, as soon as their balls drop, CLIP, their gone. I hear now that if you get a cat from the SPCA, they can go and get the testicles before they drop. I have always heard this helps a cat not develop the tendancy to spray, although I had a male cat one time, fixed and normally very placid that got mad about something and sprayed the base board heating element at my sisters house, she was not pleased... Chi Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 "Anytime I have had male kittens, as soon as their balls drop, CLIP, their gone"-I bet that comment will make many men reading that clench-lol. I don't have any cats myself, but when I've gone to visit my mom's house sometimes it has smelled like that disgusting, strong 'spray smell', hard to get rid of. I am almost sure their two cats are fixed, but I still have smelled that awful odor once in a while- who knows? shrugs Quote

It is hard to get rid of and the problem is once they have sprayed an area they like to return to that area. You almost have to fire bomb the house to get it out. Cats can be nasty, stinky creatures. Both mine go outside, and yet they come INSIDE to use the litterbox then go back out. But they were originally indoor cats, so it's the only place they go. When my two pass on, I won't be getting anymore. I'll stick to my fishtank. Quote http://www.darwinawards.com/ http://www.snopes.com http://www.breakthechain.org STOP THE SPAM!! Yeah, I used to have a fishtank, too for that very same reason, animals can be pretty stinky and such a chore to keep. Plus I don't have the time and dedication to properly care for one right now. But I can see how they can be worth the trouble, animals tend to be such unconditionally loving and faithful creatures. Quote
Feckless Wench Posted March 8, 2006 Author Posted March 8, 2006 So I come home tonight, walk through the door and am almost fucking flattened by the horrendous stench of cat spray! My teenage son's girlfriend has been home all day and obviously allowed the bastids into the main living area. I've searched and searched and I cannot find the source of the stink...I guess my sense of smell is just completely overwhelmed....damn cats! Quote Dementia is just a state of mind.
RoyalOrleans Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 This is ridiculous, Fuckless Wrench. Put that cat down... seriously. Tell the kids that it escaped and is currently swimming towards the Isle of Man or something. Anything. Lethalfind Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 LOL, how funny. She has so many she might not be aware of which one it is doing this. My black cat Salem is driving me crazy at the moment, I had been letting them out onto the screened in porch but have stopped them because they poop and pee in the flower bed out there, which makes my entire porch smell like a litter box. They are doing well at using the litter box, we clean it daily but Salem wants to go out and watch squirrels, they love to come close to the screen and tantalize him. He howls like he's dying standing at the sliding screen door to the porch. HOWEVER, I am determined to take back my porch. I have my treadmill out there with a TV so I can watch while I'm walking. I cleaned it off with a pressure washer and then sprayed it down with bleach, let it sit and then washed it off again. My next job is digging out the flower bed and then replacing it with paving stones then having only potted plants (I hear if you put Spanish moss around the plants they won't poop or pee in them). I think once I do that I can allow them out there and the temptation of the flower bed will be gone. I will probably put another litter pan out there for them to use just in case.
