Ok.. Hello I am the mother of the 13 yr old that started this post an unfortuntly to some I am married to SmuttButt....

 

First let me say though there are mornings she wakes up and hates my guts... which is normal for her age I agree with her getting her bb pierced. I know my daughter and we are very close. Some of you will disagree I am sure.

 

1. She is a very good child... There is very little to complain about!!!

 

2. She has always talked to me about everything and believe me some of this has been very hard as a parent!!! If something happens at school she will come home and talk to me.

 

3. Most of you are making this out to be sexual which is untrue. She has a nice body.... Which is hard to admit as a parent but she has desire for sex and plans that for marriage. If by chance she falls in love before and decides to before marriage..... Tell me how many of you were virgins when you got married!!!! We have talked about this and I have told her be careful who you give your heart to beacause they may use it against you.

 

So far I would say she is the one person (not child because she has a very strong personality) that I trust with everything in my life and I know she will do what is right... Once again some of you will say that is a lot of pressure to put on a child but you have to know her!!!

 

Bottom line I trust her.... She has a life, personality, and responsibilty to herself beyond what we as parents believe!!! Parents have a way sufficating our children and making them believe what we believe!!!

I certainly make no judgement on your choices, you know your child better then anyone else. Mine is only 9 and at this point I don't think it would make a big deal but I don't know how she will be at 13, I hope we have a good relationship like you and your daughter but we're not there yet. I was thinking that with my own daughter if we did it now, it wouldn't be such a new thing by the time she got to be 13. Right now she thinks boys are strange (I wish I could keep it that way).

I don't think your being too permissive, I think this kind of decision depends on the kid, honestly.

My sister has two children who could'nt be more different in the way they deal with just about everything in their life.

17-year-old girl dies from Nipple Piercing; Toxic Shock Syndrome.

Medical authorities in Vancouver Canada are investigating the death of a 17-year-old girl whose identity is being withheld, after initial indication that the girl fell victim to a fatal case of Toxic Shock Syndrome as a result of an unsanitary nipple piercing.

 

 

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease and Prevention, Toxic Shock Syndrome is caused mainly by toxins from bacterial strains of Staphylococcus aureus, typically found in the mucous membranes of the mouth and on the skin. The onset of the syndrome starts with sudden chills, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle aches and skin rashes.

 

Dr. Simon Avis stated that the girl had been admitted to a St. Johns hospital earlier in the week with complex medical problems. She died Thursday March 9, 2006. Although until a complete microbiological examination is made, the exact cause of death cannot be confirmed, all suspicion puts to the fact that the nipple piercing is most likely cause of the systemic infection. Avis that the apparent toxic shock syndrome was caused by infection at the site of the piercing as determined from an anatomical autopsy already performed.

 

Avis said her death might be "an extreme example" of what can occur when people have lips, tongues, eyebrows, genitals and other body parts punctured in the name of fashion.

While I may not support piercings in the name of fashion at a young age, people must also realize that the chances of this happening are very low. Everytime you drive your car, eat out, go on an airplane, etc. there are risks. We just don't calculate them because it's become such an ordinary and "necessary" thing to do.

It is the piercee's responsibility to make sure that the piercer is using sterile needles. Every tattoo parlor/piercer that I have ever personally been to has always shown you the sterile needle in the package before they take it out so you know it's clean. Until there are better regulations put in place, each person needs to be responsible for theirself.

My best friends 15yo son was charged with inv. manslaughter this week. He stabbed his moms bf while he was beating the shit out of her. Kinda puts my problem into perspective.
