angie Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 Having to work in retail and living with a roomate for a while until I figure out what I want and until I get some cash saved up sounds like a peachy fucking alternative to possible death to me. Not everyone goes to Iraq. Unlike you, not everyone is contented to work at minimum wage scraping to get by, living paycheck to paycheck. Some of us have higher standards than that. mozartownsmusic777 Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 Exactly my point. It's not like you have a fucking red beam on your forehead right when you are in the military. You could be a fucking cook, a musician, a computer analyst, a doctor. It's not like they hand you a gun and go good luck. What ignorance you have of how it works in the army. Quote
Gallytuck Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 When you're fresh out of high school, no idea what you want to do, a job is better than no job. It's not like you have to make it your career. Do you not know anybody who took a couple of years off after high school to work and save some cash before going to university? Pretty much everyone I know had to do that. Some were waitresses, some sales reps, and the others did similar things. You can't become a doctor with just a high school diploma. But just because right now a high school diploma is all you have doesn't mean you can't ever be a doctor. Quote

My parents were in the Air Force, my uncle was an Army Ranger, my brother is in the Marines, and I have friends in the military as well. Don't pretend like you know everything about how the military functions, or about my knowledge for that matter. You know what happens when you assume? You make an ASS out of U and irritate the crap outta ME. Quote http://www.darwinawards.com/ http://www.snopes.com http://www.breakthechain.org STOP THE SPAM!! Click Me You Know You Want To

But it is only fair for the option of being in the service to be just as available to high schoolers as any other job information. They aren't forcing it down their throats, so I don't see why there should ever be a problem. Quote

But there are people who join the military for the training because they have no desire to attend college. School is not for everyone, and you can learn many different trades while enlisted. Do you guys have job fairs down there? A recruiter is fine for job fairs. I'll give it to you that it's fair to allow them to advertise. But the recruiter onsite is across the line. Quote

I was sure you were totally not going to understand what I was saying and attempt to call me for a contradiction on my two statements at the end there. I still don't give you much credit for comprehension. Quote
