Too bad most kids these days are incapable of understanding such a simple concept. Glad the kid (now adult) is safe now though even at 14 I severely question the mental status of her.

I HOPE when my daughter gets to that age I can be more aware of her mental state then many parents seem to be today. I know my parents had no fuckin clue what I was going through as a teenager, although I had issues beyond the normal teenage angst, they still didn't seem to have a clue...

 

People seem to think that because they are children their problems and worries can't be that serious...when in fact they can be just as bad and they are even less equipped to deal with it.

Doesn't sound like she was kidnapped in the traditional way. She was living with him as a partner. I'm not saying it's right but consensual sex with a minor and raping an individual are two different things.

You are right. However, she was only 14, and from the sounds of it, quite impressionable. Regardless, what he did is still illegal due to her young age when she first took off with him. But- How long did the 'consentual' part last? When did it become holding her against her will? That's the big question here.

It didn't mention him having to tie her down when he went to work or whatever. It does say that he didn't allow her out but from the sounds of it her staying in hiding was also something she did willingly.

 

Yeah, it's a no-brainer. Buddy was in the wrong. But I don't feel it's fair to slap a harsher label on someone than is deserved. You don't have to be a rapist to be severly perverted.

It's weird how some broads think. I used to have a neighbor from NFLD who lost his legs in a DWI accident(his fault). He was a rather pathetic man. Anyway, he started dating the younger sister of another neighbor. She was 18 so it's a bit different than the story from this post, but she was very meek and dorky and she had recently moved to the city from the boondocks. She wasn't a bad lookin' girl either but buddy moved in quickly enough to snag her. Poor girl.

Yuck. I've never been into 'older' guys. A few years older, yes. My fiancee is seven years older. But more than 10......too awkward I'd think. It really irks me when guys that old (not that 30s is old) go after girls that young. They're so impressionable and vulnerable, and they just take advantage of that. It's kind of sad, really.

I have been thinking about the same things...all the article said was that she was told that she could not leave the bedroom, I don't recall reading if she was locked in this room or not. It also mentioned he had a friend who was a hairdressor who helped change her appearance and they are thinking of charging this person as well.

 

As for her home life, it said she felt unloved at home, don't most teenagers feel that way??

 

I assume they will be talking about Stockholm syndrome etc. It will be very interesting I'm sure.

 

I think some people are more susceptible to this kind of thing then others.
