Hiya...I am kind of new to this place, and I am trying to understand everybody's definition of morality...

I believe that it is of an objective stance...to start

But I am wanting to start a conversation to see where humanity might think where morality comes from...or even if they believe in it???

What is morality to you???

Is it on the basis of truth???

Is it single colored???

Anyways, I believe in order to debate, certain premisces need to be fortified...morality and/or ethics could be one of them...

this is to validate the certainty of right and wrong...or it's to disprove it, and prove that there is no certain truth to right and wrong within human action...

What's your take???

Morality....if it were to be right and wrong, then there has to be a source of it...indeed, humanity has come and seen it's own failure...I don't believe the value and emphasis can come from humanity...

Now, Snafu, I doubt that kindom animalia can have a coherent understanding of morality...has it been proven that those creatures have souls??? For all we know, it is cause and effect for them...I would say that they are on a basis of trained response...I have never seen an animal do the "right" thing...nor would I believe that they are even conscious of the matter...the funny thing is that if there is a case for morality, then there has to be a justice system...

I'm not talking about the animals morality. I'm talking about human morality. I will treat animals with respect and courtesy as long as they don't look like lunch.

The question is how should everybody best pursue true happiness and peace.

The answer is morality.

For example, stealing is bad because if everybody stole the economy wouldn't function and you better have a good security system. Murdering everybody you don't like is bad because there would be no more people and somebody almost certainly doesn't like you.

Besides, doing constructive things is fun. Return a wallet with the cash still in it. On a large scale it matters little, but it makes you feel good and small things sum together to make society.

There are similar fundamental rules about things like murder or most of the other non-sexual or non-ideological sins common to the monotheistic faiths. I will look at you funny if you do it, but worshiping idols or working all day on Saturday does not harm anybody. Veneral diseases do harm people, so if you insist on humping everything that moves please wear protection.

Abortion is an odd point. The fetus is outside the web of connections that forms our global society, however the adultery and/or unprotected sex that usually make it necessary are immoral because they are nonconducive to the pursuit of an ideal society.

Morality was not created; the set of answers you will find by thinking this way is as fundamental to societies as pi is to geometry. Animals can have morality, but their inability to communicate and limited imaginations means it never goes much beyond a wolf pack sharing its kill without just eating eachother instead.

not to be sarcastic, but I think he misjudged the homonym and spelled wait instead of weight...

anyways, no animals don't have souls...they are never guilty nor innocent...they are not even capable of simple addition...heck, lets face it, to quote Fat Bastard, "Hey, I'm bigger than you. I'm higher in the food chain. Get in my Belly!!!":D

Hmm...testing. I wrote this really wonderful rant on secular morality and pursuit of an ideal society last night that hasn't appeared on this forum. Am I banned, or did a mod just decide to remove the one post? Sigh.

Edit: NM, either my eyes deceived me and its been there the whole time, or it just miraculously appeared at the top of the page.
