Guest Gandalf Grey Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Finally, The President's Sincere Apology to the Wilsons By Steve Young Created Jul 14 2007 - 10:09am Who would have ever expected that when the question was asked during Thursday's press conference that President Bush would drop all the facades and ingenuous Bushspeak to finally give his heartfelt examination of both the country's and the Wilson's pain and frustration over the past four years since "someone in his administration" outed an admitted covert CIA agent? But there it was, as clear as a midsummers night dream... Q You spoke very soberly and seriously in your statement about how you weighed different legal questions in coming to your decision on that commutation. But one issue that you did not address was the issue of the morality of your most senior advisors leaking the name of a confidential intelligence operator. Now that the case is over -- it's not something you've ever spoken to -- can you say whether you're at all disappointed in the behavior of those senior advisors? And have you communicated that disappointment to them in any way? President Bush: Thank you for the question. First of all, you have to understand that I've had to hold my tongue for the past four years so that we could allow the legal process to run its course. Having to watch my spokespeople having to waffle their way through some half-baked duck and cover non-answers to your very proper questions has been for me, to say the least, hard work. I also know that it hasn't been easy for the boys down at Fox and talk radio to come up with creative spin to explain away what was egregious, if not traitorous, behavior. Certainly, pinning the fault on the Wilsons was ingenious. Victims as culprits has always been a winner up here at 1600, but I thought the "she wasn't covert" echo chamber, in spite of the fact that the CIA and Ms Plame herself said it under oath that she was, showed a spitting in the face of truth perseverance that I think even Helen T. would appreciate. Honestly, I'm always shocked how well it continues to do the job, but when something works...not exactly sure how that finishes - but suffice it to say, it does. First, let me address the Wilsons. Hello Wilsons. Heh-heh-heh. What they have gone through was what my non-Christ believing friends call a "shanda." I would have rather that it didn't have to come down to what it did but then again if embryonic stem cells weren't potential human voters, we might have a cure for whatever they're calling senility today. Secondly, I want to offer my condolences to Scott McClellan. You couldn't help but empathize watching that kid perspire a Katrina-sized pool of flop-sweat though his corduroy Brook Brothers. I certainly know what hard work that is having to wade more times than I many times than I care to remember through the male-cow dung down at the Crawford North Forty. And we don't even have any cattle. Heh-heh-heh. Thirdly, and most important, I'd like to apo-lo-gize to the American people. I don't think I need to get into all the specifics of the apology, mostly because I really never grasped the concept. But I have been told that the American people have always appreciated a good apology. Now while I'm not going to take a poll as to who does and who doesn't appreciate an apology 'cause I don't believe in polls, except, of course, the ones where a goodly portion of the votes get counted. Finally, you asked if I was disappointed in those in my administration who perhaps may have leaked Mrs. Plame's name of CIA employment. The simple answer is "yes." I am disappointed. They have lied to the American public, outed a covert CIA agent for political purposes and made me look even more foolish than my handlers make me out to be. And because of that I will be asking each of those men - which now only means my good friend Karl Rove and Vice President Dick Cheney, who I'm told is also my good friend, to immediately turn in their secret cabinet decoder ring and leave public service for good, just thanking the good Lord that they didn't end up at the bad end of a firing squad. I have always believed that mistakes and failures are only that if we don't learn from them. Hopefully we've all learned an important lesson. I certainly have and to show the country that I have... Helen I'd like to answer your next question...honestly. That was about the time I woke up. _______ -- NOTICE: This post contains copyrighted material the use of which has not always been authorized by the copyright owner.
