Let them run out of their arab stuff. Here's the true state of energy affairs: "Alberta Government calculates that about 28 billion cubic metres (174 billion barrels) of crude bitumen are economically recoverable from the three Alberta oil sands areas at current prices using current technology. This is equivalent to about 10% of the estimated 1,700 and 2,500 billion barrels of bitumen in place.[1]. Alberta estimates that the Athabasca deposits alone contain 5.6 billion cubic metres (35 billion barrels) of surface mineable bitumen and 15.6 billion cubic metres (98 billion barrels) of bitumen recoverable by in-situ methods. These estimates of Canada's oil reserves caused some astonishment when they were first published but are now largely accepted by the international community. This volume places Canadian proven oil reserves second in the world behind those of Saudi Arabia." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athabasca_Oil_Sands .... "Technical recoverable reserves are estimeted to be around 2.9-3.3 trillion barrels. The largest deposits are located in the United States, which is thought to have 1.5-2.6 Trillion barrels, followed by Brazil with about 1.4 billion barrels.[1][2][3][4] " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_shale_reserves ... ...Not counting biodiesel from low cost crops like rapeseed, ethanol from field crops, ethanol from cellulose waste products, energy from the sun, energy from the wind, and hydro. The article might be bad news for certain war-mongering neocon people holding leases in some middle-eastern country... but so what? Screw 'em. It's time to move on to better deals.. Quote

I have worked in the Petroleum Industry, in Research. Now I work in the Polymers industry. Just pointing out how 'experts' have been wrong before. This 'report' sounds like another Global Alarmist bullshit piece. (The kicker was, "... there should be a crackdown on 4x4s." Why? I've seen 4x4s that get better gas mileage than a minivan). If we are running out, when it gets serious, we'll cut back. When we run out, we'll find something else. A lot of people will cry and moan, but will have no choice. Technology will prevail. Until such time as there is a serious crisis (and we ain't there yet), I will continue to drive whatever the hell I please (which is my right and you have absolutely no control over). Deal with it. Did you bother to consider what I drive? Obviously, from your point of view, I must drive a 16 cylinder behemoth with 6 foot tires just because I can...right? Actually, I choose to drive I 4-cylinder compact. I like the gas mileage. You find reality funny? We may, or may not, run out of oil (if we do, it probably won't be in my lifetime). Human nature being what it is, we will find an alternative. We will either find something more economical or efficient before we run out of oil. Or we will find an alternative that is less economical or efficient that we will be forced to use once we actually run out of oil. Until gasoline becomes uneconomical, people won't be too motivated to come up with a alternative. No matter which of these occurs, some CAVE People (Citizens Against Virtually Everything) will be bitching that we have to do it, some people will bitch that we haven't already done it, some people will bitch because we ain't doing fast enough, and some asswipes will bitch that whatever we do is a great government conspiracy (or, if we do nothing it is a government conspiracy). Oh, I'm sorry if some PG-13 language has hurt your sensibilities. I didn't realize that you never interacted with the Real World. I guess your mommy doesn't want you exposed to that 'dirty old internet'. Let me know when you can stay up past nine and we'll continue the discussion. BTW...what exactly constitutes a "Fowl Mouth"? Chicken Breath? (and my chicked does NOT have an ugly head) Whether or not I choose to express myself by stating the "Fertilizer Impacted the Ventilator" or just saying "The Shit Hit the Fan" in no way changes it's meaning nor 'reduces its credibility'. Luckily, your credibility can not be reduced, as you have aptly demonstrated that on this subject you have no credibility and no working knowledge (i.e....you don't have a clue). > Have a great day though. Thanks, I generally do. Having a great day as I just got back from vacation. Took the family thousand+ miles in an SUV and wasted plenty of resources. Strangely enough, I was not hindered in any way with the prices of gas (The Cheesecake Factory's prices were interesting, though...but the Crabcake Sandwich was worth it). > Independent Yol Bolsun, Grendel "Life as we know it" does not exist.-Solomon Short.
