Okay who else thinks it's time to start up the old stills.

I'm seriously thinking of making my own moon shine to run my car.

Read this and tell me.

Finally, I can use alcohal and not be breaking my beliefs... This is just great :D. Lol, very nice link though Snafu. I still think that we should just use hybrid cars, and they shouldn't be so expensive... Damn it, it's for our earth, and it's fucking our econonmy up with all these high gas prices.

I do like how the ethanol in the alcohal is more efficient than gas. Thats great. I'm sure if this ever goes worldwide, alcoholics will be hosing down you're "gas" all day :D.

Oh, I thought this thread was about flatulence.

With fuel jumping up ten cents a litre (about fifty cents a gallon) and set to rise more soon, I'll be running my car on cooking oil permanently soon.

I'm so glad I switched to diesel way back when it was cheaper than gas.

Yes other means such has hybrids, solar and what not will be better for sure but I can't afford a new car right now. And they still aren't that good yet. I want to cut my dependancy on oil NOW!

This ethenol is better for your engine (lasts twice as long), cleaner and more power. Plus tax breaks for using it (depending on the State).

You do lose mpg though. instead of say 18 mpg you would get something like 13mpg.

Ethanol has a bad reputation here, and retailers that put more than ten percent into regular gas get big fines.

That said, if engines were designed to run on it, like better delivery and exhaust systems, it wouldn't be a problem. The drop in horsepower just means bigger donks will make a comeback.

What really shits me here in Australia is, when gas prices rise, the retailers jack the price of diesel up higher, to offset the price rise of gas. Fuckers.

Yeah gasolines are trying to get leaner and ethenol is lean on it's own. It sounds like to burn straight ethenol you just turn down the jets in the carborator.

Another anomaly is that you get more mpg when halling a load. I dont' know how.

Ethanol is a cleaner burning fuel yes, and actually Nebraska does a real good job of promoting it, but it tends to break down your hoses easier since it is basically more potent then gas, it also will cause vapor lock much easier. The E-85 fuel that's made and sold can only be used in select vehicles, but, the main setback of Ethanol is, when you take into consideration the energy used to produce it, the market value isn't that great.

Farmers have to use FUEL in their tractors and combines and such, then MORE FUEL is used to extract the ethanol in the refineries. Until a better, or cheaper method for producing Ethanol can be found, don't count on doing things like brewing your own gas to be very fesible either.

On the PLUS side, E85 works GREAT in older cars which need the high octane gas to run on... so get out that old Road Runner or Camaro and WASTE that ETHANOL !!

If gas spikes up past three dollars and up to five, I think it sounds better and better. The Iranian President was quoted, as saying the oil prices still haven't hit its peak. He controls something like 10% of the world’s oil.

The problem also with brewing your own is that from this article you don’t want to mix it with gas. Ethanol is 16.5% water. Gas and water don’t mix. That’s were they’re getting the problems with E-85. E-85 has 15% gasoline. You need to make a lot of ethenol and not switch back and forth. They recommend you mix the ethenol with water.

Hahah wow, you know a few cents that they're allowed to add on it in Canada earns them on average 4-5 Million a day... For one company.

Boo-fucking-hoo! We're capitalists, right? Supposed to be? Suck it up... this is the ol' supply and demand scenario. This was covered in most of your 8th grade Economics books.

For years and years, regular unleaded was less than $.90/gallon here. I hardly believe the Prez. of Exxon retired on the spoils.

If you all don't like a capitalistic market/nation... then move the fuck up to Canada. I'm comfortable here, fending for myself and making money the way I want to make it and spending it the way I want to spend it.

My brother's roomate is the backwoods genuis type. One of his inventions is a gas alternative that burns cleaner, better, is cheaper and gets him better milage in his piece of shit truck that should have long ago stopped working. He even sells the shit locally to the few who know about it. Theres only one problem with it: Its only 1 ingredient away from the shopping list required for Crystal-Meth (Different quantities of course).

Capitalism would work wonderfully if capitalists (AKA the human element) weren’t so damn stupid. Anti-competition practices, gouging, short sighted gains, environmental destruction among others all demonstrate how the capitalist dipshits in charge don't know shit all about how to make capitalism actually work for everyone (Including themselves). Greed may drive it but it also seems to destroy it.

The trouble with capitalism is, by the time the major players get wealthy enough to make it in the bigtime, they are also so old that they don't give a fuck about anything else but the game of making more money. They don't even care about the future of their own offspring, as long as they leave a big enough dent on the world, and enough money behind, they believe they have done the "right thing". Sad really, that the brains trust of the west becomes so fucking greedy.

Reminds me of another great quote by TR.

The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life. ~ Theodore Roosevelt

What the hell does capitalism have to do with it? If I don’t want to be tied down to a fucking company I have a right to do what ever I want. That’s free enterprise. I can spend more on my home brew and be proud that I made it. At least I won't be addicted to oil.

Like one of the articles said this situation is like a leaky roof. If it’s not raining you don’t worry about it. When it’s raining you want to get the leak fixed.

I tend to notice the older people get the more family oriented they are. The only problem with capitalism is socialism. Big companies can utilize government to further their agenda. That is why lobbyists exist. Eliminate socialism and capitalism falls in line with the public interest.

I agree, although I'm not at all a supporter of capitalism. Its full and potentially wonderful function is just as idealistic as the fully functional communist system. As socialism corrupts capitalism, the existance of capitalists is the problem with implementing a socialist system, like Oil and water. The problem is that under a mass governmental system the 2 are stuck with eachother.
