I brought this issue up at debate club thingy today, and I was puzzled as to why they'd fly the American flag upside down, because I had known it as a distress signal as well. Someone else mentioned it's also a sign of surrender. Perhaps they were wrong.

As most of you know, I am from mexican descent. I have been around mexicans all of my life. My parents were both born in mexico... and can tell you that 95% of mexicans have the crazy mentality that they need to "escape" from the harsh life of mexico with it's never ending cycle of corruption, injustice and poverty and come to the U.S.... and then they begin to turn the U.S. into the same shit-hole they escaped from... many refuse to learn english to any degree of clarity, drinking and driving is SOP with many of us, and (in south texas at least) there are many corrupt government (hispanic) officials - not all mind you - but a large percentage.

I was wondering if they flew the American Flag upside down for the same reason they "say" people who worship the devil use the cross but upside down, I thought inverting a symbol made it mean the opposite.
