skategreen Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Do you sit on the floor to put on your shoes? I'm just wondering. A bit of a limited survey, but easily enough undertaken here at GF. I think I'll try to remember to start asking some folk. Or maybe this little survey here will clear it up for me. It strikes me once in awhile and I wonder about it. Because...I do - I sit on the floor to put on my shoes. I've tried to imagine my mother doing it..and can't recall it. I KNOW Dad didn't. I taught K-1 for years... course then, I wasn't in the minority. I'm just musing.. was this something I was supposed to outgrow? Does everyone do it and I just don't notice? Or does it just come with the territory of being a bit on the short side? My husband doesn't..but then..he's not all that limber. Hell, I hide things from him in the fridge by putting it on the bottom shelf. He won't bend to look. So what say you, oh GF cohorts? Do you sit on the floor to put on your shoes? skategreen Posted May 7, 2006 Author Posted May 7, 2006 Your kidding right? LOL NO I was taught balance. Same with putting on my pants. No, I wasn't kidding. Right? Thanks for all the answers. Natually, slip on shoes are slip ons, and there's no sense sitting. I wear sandles in the warm weather, boots in winter to work fairly frequently, so these are just slip on. But most of the other times I'm wearing my Mocs - (thin rubber soled and leather thong tie ups) - or my runners to the gym and here and there...but mainly, my dearest Mocs. For these two I'm always on the floor putting them on. So my thus-far-limited survey.... others are not floor sitters. Hmmmm. I'm a curb sitter too. I wonder if floor sitting and curb sitting are related. Quote The thought manifests as the word. The word manifests as the deed. The deed develops into habit. And the habit hardens into character. Hamza123 Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 I sit on the floor and put on my shoes. I just think that taking time to do anything is right. Even shoes!! It's actually become into kind of a habit. I do it at home, at school during gym, at basketball practice. Just about anywhere I need to put new shoes on. But I am sitting down sometimes, not on the floor all the time. Quote Taking it up the poopchute from Allah since 1990.
Quarky1.0 Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 I usually sit in a chair or couch to put on my shoes, but sometimes I sit on the floor. However I usually don't wear shoes around the house, I go barefoot, even in winter. I like feeling that connection with the ground etc and only wear shoes when I go out. Does anyone else rarely wear shoes? Or do you wear shoes even at home? Quote
manicmonday Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 No, I wasn't kidding. Right? I'm a curb sitter too. I wonder if floor sitting and curb sitting are related. What's a curb sitter? If I'm outside, I'm walking with the baby in a stroller and don't have time to sit. Or do you mean when you pull up weeds and such? When I had a big yard, I just walked around and pulled as I went. Overall, I'm just not a sitter much. I don't even sit half the time to work on my lap top. It's on the cabinet and I walk around while doing stuff. Quote The dick has no conscience and the heart has no rational abilities.
Hamza123 Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Any shoe that has touched the outside floor/earth is not going to be allowed passed the front corridor of my house!! You step on dirt outside, and bring it in the house! So I take off my shoes and change socks when i walk around the house! I like to be clean. If I am not, it irratates my mind. Quote Taking it up the poopchute from Allah since 1990.

Chi Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Nope, almost never, but I have before. I usually sit on the couch, bed or chair while putting on my shoes or just standing and done quickly if I'm in a rush (which is often). Quote
tiredofwhiners Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Nope i have to sit on a step or chair. The question is why would you go all the way to the floor, just to stand back up? Quote AA's for quitters...i'm no quitter!
Crystal Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 oh hell no, if I can't just slip them on standing up i'll go barefoot Quote

I move quickly... zip over, and as I lean to grab the shoes, plop down, pull them on...tie up the mocs..and away I go. Runners too..same thing. Musing....I think...I use a chair when I happen to be sitting in a chair and the shoes are nearby. If I have to go get them, and bend for them, then it's the floor. It's faster..that's why. Pull up a curb and set a spell! See, I think this is where our personality are different. I don't wait for anything. If I'm early for something, I walk around and go buy a water or see if there's something to read or go put on lipstick. If I was waiting for tires to put on, I ask for a loaner and go do the the rest of my errands. Lunch breaks I would again run errands. If I was waiting for a husband(If you could here me laughing here you would freak), I would find a book store or go do something I wanted to be doing. I think your just more laid back then I am which isn't bad, it's just the way it is. I'm far too jittery to sit around and wait. I have issues with getting dirty...I would probably NOT want to sit on the curb for that reason. ToriAllen Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 I have issues with getting dirty... Let's face it, you just have issues. If I am putting on shoes that take more effort than just slipping them on, I sit on the couch. Once in a while I'll sit on the floor to put the kid's shoes on, but that is just because that is where I managed to wrestle them to the ground and hold them down.
