Yeah so what. I'll bet everybody that bitched that we didn't stop the terrorist in time are the same ones bitching about this. Who cares. It can't be used in a court of law. If they find out where I get my weed from then I guess that's my fault for doing something illegal. They want the terrorist and so do I. I am willing to give up my privacy rights to stop the next 9/11. We have to many vulnerable places in our country. We know they have dirty bombs right here in the USA. We need protection. And by God I don't care how we get it.

Well I hope they have a good time analyzing the patterns of my phone calls to my disfunctional family...YAWN!!

As far as I'm concerned they can pick up an extension. I make it a rule to NOT say anything over a cordless phone or cell phone that I wouldn't say in a crowded room, not too mention my life is pretty boring, there isn't anything going on that I would feel the government shouldn't know...

It's good to know there are people like you 2 who think security means it's OK to have your privacy invaded.

.

.

So you feel that them analyzing the patterns of your calls (not actually listening to them) is an invasion of your privacy???

AND you were under the impression prior to this article this was not going on?

I have been under the impression the NSA can and does moniter all sorts of things...

You can't actually hope to have any privacy in a phone conversation that takes place over a cordless or cell phone, those can be picked up pretty easily by normal every day people.

There is an expect right of privacy between the parties involved in a phone call. As such, the NSA is voilating the law and our right to privacy.

This is typical Chimpy and Dicky screwing around with out rights and the law so they can do as they please.

Bush needs to be impeached immediately.

Iran's useless government will disarm or be destroyed. As a matter of personal preference; I prefer the latter.

This is also done by the feds. They arent' going to spend the time and energy to bust someone doing petty crimes. Also they get enough shit doing this in the first place. So even the big fish doing crimes will probably get looked over. Now if there wasn't a risk of terrorizim they might use it for other reason. I invite them to listen to my calls.

I want to add to what Phreak said...

If you are willing to give up your freedoms in order to be more secure, then you are a mind puppet of the government...have a great day! Say hi to Big Brother!

Basically, if you give up your privacy, you have given the government the green light to take away all of your freedoms...

Like Ben Franklin says: "Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both. "

There are certain realities, I don't like it but thats how it is.

Your going on about this like its something new.

Are you saying you never talk on a cordless phone or cell phone? I assume you do like most people, these conversations are easily picked up by almost any ass hole with a scanner...are you upset by that or is it only the government you don't want tracking your calls...

First of all Ben Franklin is dead. Although I respect him, he doesn't live with the risks we do today. Second Lethal's right in that I used to listen to cell calls and cordless ones on my scanner. You just drive around and pick it up. Real simple. These records they are collecting are of who and where you called. Not what you said.

No, I have never said that this is new.

I talk on a cell phone all of the time. Do I want the government listening/monitering my calls in any form? Hell no! If I wanted some other douchebag doing anything with my calls, I would expressly say that I do not want any freedoms...

Actually, Islam has been around for quite some time, and so have firearms. So it is possible that the Muslims could have brought a musket and let loose on a group of people...if it wasn't so damn inefficient.

And what if I called someone in a foreign country and said a few things that could be misconstrued? Like, "Yes, I have in fact thought of shooting George Bush." Well, maybe not misconstrued, but you know what I mean. If you can pick up the calls, then they can be recorded (don't tell me they can't). Since the government can't manage to fight any real problems here, they must spend massive amounts of money doing bullshit things, like recording phone calls.

That was heavy sarcasm on my part, there are some things I am resigned to in life...

If you are SO upset about this then you should stop talking on cell phones and cordless phones because they are very easy for someone to listen in on should they choose to.

The fact this news is just now coming up might make some think this is a new thing, I believe the NSA has been doing things like this for a long time, this is just a new excuse. Law enforcement also studies the "pattern" of electricity consumption in order to track people growing pot

My take on this is...

I am a law abiding american citizen....they have no right to listen or have any reason to suspect me of anything....The worst I do is jaywalk or ignore a "no smoking 150 feet infront of the building" infraction!

Granted I only use my phone for like 20 minutes a month because I hate it...But I do use the internet for alot of my communication (in unconventional areas....email is too full of spam for me to actually use)

NOW...under our current czar..err president busch being very anti-gay and all im sure im one of the top suspects....not to mention my full name ( i cant go through an airport without being pulled over and searched constantly.....my own father, not even a native to this country, doesnt even get the same treatment....)

I just want to live my life and make something of myself, im not gonna get pissed off so bad that i will cause trouble...but i will CERTAINLY speak my mind as we are allowed to do.....

but with all these new laws that may not even be possible...its a fork in the road this country may go down too....after all its already happening (granted for good reason with the whole rev phelps funeral prostests...which is good, but who knows when it will morph into the good things)....

Im all for a right of privacy (although mild) to be diminished because of these times we live in (apltly named.....the mutherfuckers who are ruining it for the rest of us)....But they need to still keep in mind that spying "willy nilly" is a huge no no......

How exactly do we draw the line?

Once bush has his way and i am illegal to be myself you had better believe ill be jumping barbed wire fences to get into Canada or Mexico....and whats sad is most straight people only think of is "0h they are listning o my phonecalls...better be on my best behavior"...I may have to run for my friggen life!( okay i admit thats pretty dramatic....but it is a plausable scenario!)

SOILENT GREEN IS PEOPLE LOL...have a good night all!

-I don't know about you...but I am SICK and tired of being nice and understanding!!!

-The Liver is evil and must be punished!

-The Early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

How can your opinion be the correct one....if, infact, its only an opinion?!?!

Thats all good vortex but the president is NOT a gay basher. He doesn't want extra laws for gays and no marriage for gays. He's said this before. He's not

God and he can't judge you. So I really don't think you need to run for the boarder. After all there are a lot of gay people with a vote. ;)

And on the note of spying, think of all the times you get caught on camera. they say the average New Yorker gets filmed about 300 times a day. I don't know if that's true or not but I'm sure you get filmed everytime you walk into a store. They can easily record sound too. So your privacy has already been invaded. If you don't like it, stay home with the shades drawn and take your phone off the hook.

You forgot too mention all the CCTVs at the intersections and on the highways that photograph you.

The UK has a very sophisticated network of CCTV and I think the US should move in the same direction, they routinely use these cameras to solve crimes.

What you do in a store is public, and everyone can see it, so there is no privacy invasion. If I go and make a call to somebody and I make sure that no one is around while I do it, then I have privacy, unless the government invades it.

And even if I don't have anything to hide, I may have something very private that I am talking to somebody about.

And Last but not Least:

Say I have a Syrian cousin, or a cousin visiting Syria. I call him/her and they say "Damn, I hate Busch." The CIA is all over my ass. The part of the call that they didn't listen to? "I can't get a good beer here in Syria."

So, the government can go fuck themselves.

True story:

One of my cousins, who I talk to quite often, does drugs.. I don't, he, I am sure, calls another person, who, if I am not mistaken, is Iranian. This Iranian of course has ties with OTHER Mid - Eastern people, what if one of them is a suspected terrorist, and has all thier calls monitored, and traced, this will cause anybody else to be monitored and traced.. Leading back to my cousin, leading back to ME !!!

My privacy has just been invaded even though I have broken no law. I am only guilty of using communication lines.

You guys are complete fucking idiots who are only letting terrorists win if you allow your security to be dictated by Big brother looking over your shoulder.

Just listen to yourselves...

We need protection. And by God I don't care how we get it.

What kind of panzy ass pussy talk is that ??

You all basically said "I LIVE IN FEAR, HELP ME OH GOVERNMENT OF MINE, I'LL DO ANYTHING YOU WANT "

FUCK THAT !!

You want to keep America, you keep your civil liberties free.

I can't believe you guys would compare picking up your cell phone/cordless phone signal with a radio shack project kit that a kid can do,to being investigated as a Terrorist no matter WHO you talked to by YOUR OWN GOVERNMENT for the alleged sake of "NATIONAL SECURITY".

Phreak, there is almost no point in telling these idiots that. They don't care. If the government said that everyone in the US would be put in handcuffs for the sake of "national Security", They would gladly do it without a second thought.

And 9/11 had to do with Bush saying "Fuck terrorists. They can't hurt us, "God" is on our side!" So Bush kills anything that could possibly stop terrorists and look what happens.

Oh, wait, that wasn't the only attack on the Twin Towers. Clinton stopped the others. So it was Bush, your own fucking president that is trying to take away YOUR RIGHTS to "protect you" that allowed this to happen.

But hey, why not let the same guy who is out to get you try to protect you? Who cares about conflicts of interest?

Warrentless wiretapping, the patriot act, and various other things don't make you more secure. Here's why:

Our constitution is based on the philosophy that we have the right to "Life", "own land", and "be happy". So, we make laws surrounding those. Can't murder, steal, disturb the peace, whatever.

The right to own land? Not if the government thinks your a terrorist.

Right to live? Not if the government thinks you're a terrorist...HELLO GUANTANAMO!

Right to be happy? Not if the government thinks you're a terrorist.

Key word in those? THINKS! They don't have to have proof. Why? YOU CANNOT GET A LAWYER IN GUANTANAMO!!!

So, a friend of a friend whom you've met once gets busted for possibly almost not quite thinking about calling a Libian friend of his. You have now communicated with a "Possible Terrorist". You will get:

A. The right to a fair trial...

B. Released because you did nothing...

C. Ass-raped by a guy named Shalom in your cell in Guantanamo because you talked to somebody once.

Go Fucking Figure...

Well I guess we need to keep an eye on you to then.

Has the CIA come knocking on your door yet? You sound like the black folk saying the man is keeping you down.

What do you propose to do to protect us from another 9/11? What’s your cure all? If you got a better way to find these people, the rest of the nation and I are all ears.

What about a boat packed with C-4 going up to one of our nuclear cites? What about the sleeper cells? If you think I’m paranoid then I think you’re probably right. I’d rather be paranoid and prepared than dead. If you don't think we won't have another 9/11 your the fool not me.

I'm sorry but once I find out someone is doing something illegal, I don't have contact with them for that very reason...I don't want to be a known associate of someone who is of interest to the police...If you get that kind of notariaty from your association with your cousin then thats your fault.

My comment about our phone conversations themselves not being private was only to address the issue that our illusion of privacy is just that, an illusion. You can't even go to the grocery store and get any privacy, our very purchases are tracked, what TV programs you watch are tracked. For me its not the purpose, its the fact they are being tracked at all.

I once had someone I was speaking to (that I had just been introduced to) repeat back an entire conversation I had over a cordless phone, she had a scanner and picked up the conversation and remembered it because I have a strange name.
