TerroristHater Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 This article from FoxNews sums it up best: E-Mails Suggest Bush Administration Pressured ICANN to Nix '.Xxx' Domain Wednesday, May 24, 2006 By Ben Charny Newly released e-mails allege U.S. government officials pressured a leading Internet authority into voting against creating a kind of red-light district for adult Web sites. The apparent involvement of the U.S. Department of Commerce, President Bush's chief political operative Karl Rove and others is significant. If true, it means the U.S. government violated terms of a complicated arrangement it has with ICANN, the Internet authority that voted 9-5 two weeks ago not to OK the .xxx proposal. What ICM Registry, the company that proposed the top-level domain, wanted was permission to distribute Web addresses that ended in .xxx to be used exclusively by adult entertainment sites. The proposal won support from Wired Safety and Wired Kids, the Internet Content Rating Association and other child-safety groups because of the way it was expected to make it easier for authorities and parents to police the Internet. Detractors said it just would make it that much easier to find porn. ICANN voted it down 9-5, after seemingly being on track to approve of the effort. kokorosenshi Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 its already easy to find porn, just type idiot on some web browser, and i garantee you will find some porn at some point, not to mention a picture of george w. bush. not to mention a picture of george w. bush. and if there is an .xxx, it would make so much easier for schools to block it out, parents (or they can have me do it) can put the computer in such a way to block it, new software with porn security comes out, etc. etc. and kids cant watch porn, although, they will be more curious when they grow up, and be huge porn geeks, so you have to mess with them psychologicly to have them think that porn is a waste, i have an idea, but i doubt that anyone would agree with me, and i cant blame you Quote I love to masturbate with a handful of shit! kokorosenshi Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 true, it will, thats why i said to mess with them psychologicly, cuase keeping them from watching it or blocking it, is already messing with them psychologicly, and schools and parents can already block it, yet, if all adult entertainment was .xxx, then software can ignore the name address and pay attention to .xxx, and people wount have to go to numerous sites like goodfun.com, which could be porn (its actually something else, but you know what i mean) and block those sites, it would be easier becuase forbiden sites wont be in a list, they will just be in .xxx and software blocks it, but again, you would mess with them psychologicly, and we are already do that, so we have to find a way to mess with them psychologicly in a way that they see a naked person and go, "eh, what do i care", but that might lead to public nudity, unless, its illegal Quote I love to masturbate with a handful of shit! Komrade Vostok Hazard Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 I said it once I'll say it again, If you dont want kids looking at porn and or any of that other shit, KEEP THEM OFF THE FUCKING NET. The risks are obviously too severe to allow kids to go loose on the world wide web so why let them? Back in the old days parents wouldn't turn their kids loose on the streets because of the risks of doing so, so why turn them loose in any other potentially dangerous environment? Throw that .xxx and all that other shit away. IT'S NOT NEEDED! WHY CAN'T PEOPLE GET IT INTO THEIR DENSE FUCKING HEADS THAT THE GOVERNMENT AND THE INTERNET ARE NOT FUCKING BABYSITTERS? 1 Quote All bullshit, No Business.

I am sorry that you republican fuckheads lack the brains to figure that out. Now... kindly go drink some hemlock! Gallytuck Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 Actually, you mindless, retarded motherfucker, it keeps porno easily accessable by minors. I am sorry that you republican fuckheads lack the brains to figure that out. Now... kindly go drink some hemlock! And you never snuck a look at your father's Hustler mags? Well, assuming your father stuck around, that is. I don't see how limiting porn is going to curb anything when it comes to sexuality. More teens are having sex. More teens are having sex at a younger age. You can't hide it from them. Do you remember the anticipation you had to reach 16 so you could get your licence? Do you remember the anticipation that came with waiting to hit age of majority? Our society is full of coming-of-age milestones. I don't see how we can't turn sex into one of them. Obviously, trying to cover our children's eyes isn't working. We live in a sex-based society. Sexuality sells. It's everywhere. The fact is kids are having sex. And not just with themselves. With all the diseases and consequences sex carries it is our duty as adults to provide kids with everything they need to know about sex. It's too late to go back and repave the road with sexuality taken out of the mainstream. Whether or not you think it's right for a young teen to have sex it is most certainly your duty to provide accurate information and access to protective devices. Sure, I'd prefer that all people waited until they turned 18 to have sex. But that's not a reality. We can encourage kids to wait and that's fine and all, but what about the rest of them who are not willing to wait? We can't abandon them. If we turn our backs on them we just might literally be killing some of them. If we turn our backs on them we might very well be ruining the lives of at least three people all because we were too prudish and tight-assed to take care of our own mess(sex in society). Suck it up, people. We can all sit here and foam at the mouth with our views about how bad internet porn is but nobody seems to bring up the point that the reason net porn is so successful is because a LOT of people on this planet want it. Pedophiles and perverts aren't the only ones who surf for porn on the net. Porn isn't going away. Children aren't going to concede to adults that maybe we're right when we tell them they might want to wait. We have to go in some direction and trying to shield our children from the sexual society we've created isn't even really on the map anymore. 1 Quote

Good question! I'm just pissed because it makes the Internet less safe for kids. I don't want my neice mistaking whitehouse.com for whitehouse.org. Porn should be segregated to the .xxx moniker. Then it would be easier to set up a cybernanny-type application to block .xxx sites. The fact that chimpy and dicky used their influence to veto this is more then a little suspicious. :/ Quote I'm not having a tantrum...I'm not...I'm not...I'm not...I'm going to sue your ass...whawwwwwwww. Mohammed_Rots_In_Hell Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 TH, I'm really pissed off at Bush right now because of a small incident that happened this passed April. To understand my frustration, let's go back to 1999 and 2000 and even before when W was governor of Texas. He stated many times that he was a "states rightist". Now this last April, he sent a delegation of lawyers to the supreame court to argue in a case that pitted State law against federal (Marshall v. Marshall) these lawyers made a case to "standardize" federal bankruptcy law and state probate law. Their fucked-up logic gives federal courts more power and the ability to trump state courts ... and of course the supreame court bought it hook, line and sinker!
