Nothing was said or implied that would suggest she said anything of the kind. Going through a metal detector to get on a plane is not voluntary. I have no reason to doubt that the existence of mandatory subjection to those detectors has persuaded some people not to carry a gun onboard, and, when someone is actually caught by a detector, that also has an influence on others who might otherwise have tried it. In other words laws can prevent crime. The only point you have made so far is that individuals are still found who will commit the crimes in question, but nobody has denied that. Quote

Which happens first: 1) I'm detained BEFORE I enter the metal detector, 2) I'm detained AFTER the metal detector detects something. > I have no reason to doubt that the existence of mandatory subjection to > those detectors has persuaded some people not to carry a gun onboard, and, > when someone is actually caught by a detector, that also has an influence > on others who might otherwise have tried it. In other words laws can > prevent crime. In your own words you prove yourself wrong. You said: "...the existence of... ...has persuaded..." which PROVES it was not the law preventing crime but the PERSON voluntarily NOT committing a crime. You said: "...when someone is actually caught by a detector, that also has an influence on others..." which PROVES it was not the law preventing crime but the PERSON voluntarily NOT committing a crime.
