IWS and Hugo are exactly right.. Tori, your comparisons are crap.. A person is not forced to view an X ray or forced to receive any information about a procedure against their will.. They are provided that info to decrease anxiety about a surgery/procedure etc.. Sure.. a doc would be in trouble for withholding info.. but it's all the choice of the patient what info they want. If the doc says "do you want to see the x ray" and the patient said no.. case closed.. if he then said.. well.. "we wont do your surgery until you look".. he'd be in for a lawsuit.. Patients are fully informed to the extent they WANT to be informed.. they are never forced.. Like I said.. info is provided to decrease anxiety about a procedure and is never forced on someone.. Decreasing anxiety is a medical necessity and the ethical thing to do.. a woman seeking an abortion forced to view an ultrasound is to increase her anxiety and instill guilt to discourage her from having the procedure all together.. not a medical necessity to perform an ultrasound before an abortion.. matter of fact it goes against everything I was taught as a nurse. Every nurse has a legal obligation to advocate for the well being of their patient and doing crap that is medically unnecessary to increase someones anxiety to impose moral judgments upon them is malpractice and totally unethical.. it is the polar opposite of your examples. So.. "ma'am.. would you like us to do an ultrasound and see your fetus before we terminate your pregnancy?" .. No.. Case closed.. Patients have the right to decline any and all procedures.. meds.. etc.. The right to decline any treatment. Be hard pressed to make a case saying an ultrasound is medically necessary to perform an abortion.

One of my favorite shows ever.. they were all good.. I love the one where they gave another spin on how life started on Earth.. the whole show ya thought that an astronaut Named Colonel Cook from Earth crash landed on another planet and came across a woman who was the sole survivor from another planet.. they couldn't talk or anything but they found ways to communicate over time and at the end ya found out their names were Adam and Eve.. Here's the synopsis from Wiki.. Astronaut Adam Cook crash lands on a strange planet with gravity and atmospheric conditions similar to those on his home world. Most of his equipment is put out of commission by the crash and he cannot repair it due to a broken arm and lack of resources. Shortly afterwards, he learns that his home world has embarked on a catastrophic nuclear war. In his last transmission, Adam's superior back home, General Larrabee, tells him that there may be no survivors when the war is over, so he can expect no rescue. Eventually he finds a woman from another species who tells him her name is Eve Norda. May 8th graduation for me.. a few more lame assignments and presentations in the next week.. then the NCLEX for my license sometime next month.. Been doing an internship at the ER in my home town the last half the semester.. love it. Wish I could afford to stay in school for another 4 or 5 years.. I'd go back and finish the law degree I started 20 years ago just for the fun of it..
