The blue-chip FTSE 100 index of top companies was down 23.33 points, or 0.34 percent, at 6,888.47 points, with developer Land Securities Group and DIY retailer Kingfisher the biggest fallers. US markets sank Friday after the Labor Department said 295,000 jobs were created in February, pushing the unemployment rate down to 5.5 percent, the lowest level since May 2008. Analysts said the latest strong jobs report -- which also follows a series of other positive indicators -- increased the likelihood the Fed will lift rates from near-zero as early as the summer. 16. By William James LONDON (Reuters) - Britain will introduce new laws on Tuesday to try to stop airlines carrying passengers who may be traveling to join Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq, a junior minister said on Sunday. Security services estimate some 600 Britons have gone to Syria or Iraq to join militant groups, including the man known as "Jihadi John" who has appeared in several Islamic State beheading videos. Under the proposed new laws, Home Secretary Theresa May would be able to prevent airlines from carrying passengers, including children, believed to be traveling to take part in "terrorism-related activity" on known routes, such as those into Syria, according to a Home Office statement. "This important legislation will disrupt the ability of people to travel abroad to fight and then return," James Brokenshire, a junior minister for security in May's department, said in the statement. The minister reached Aden unharmed but at least one of his guards was killed in a firefight with Huthi militiamen during the escape, a military source told AFP. The militia had named Subaihi head of a new security committee when they completed their seizure of power in Sanaa in February. Continue reading...

 25. By Julien Toyer, Inmaculada Sanz and Carlos Ruano MADRID (Reuters) - Europe must stop its austerity policies or watch far-right movements continue to grow and pose a real danger to democracy, said Pablo Iglesias, leader of Spain's Podemos party that like Greece's Syriza aims to offer a leftist alternative. In an interview with Reuters, the 36-year-old whose Podemos ('We Can') party is leading some election polls, also said any coalition between Spain's centre-right and centre-left would only prolong what he called the country's economic disaster. Spain is emerging from a seven-year economic slump as one of the euro zone's fastest growing nations. A weariness with austerity has made voters across Europe susceptible to the rhetoric of anti-immigrant right-wing parties that are playing to their discontent with suggestions that the European Union has let them down.
