5. A top United Nations climate official, Rajendra Pachauri, has pulled out of a high-level meeting in Kenya next week, a spokesman said on Saturday, as Indian police investigate a sexual harassment complaint against him. Delhi police said Pachauri, 74, chairman of the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), is accused of sexually harassing a 29-year-old female researcher from his Delhi-based thinktank The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). Pachauri, one of the world's leading voices on the issue of global warming, has denied the charges, according to a court order. "The Chairman of the IPCC, Rajendra K. Pachauri, PhD, has informed the IPCC that he will be unable to chair the plenary session of the IPCC in Nairobi next week because of issues demanding his attention in India," a spokesman for Pachauri said in a statement on Saturday. 7. Derby swept to the top of the Championship after coming from behind twice to beat 10-man Sheffield Wednesday 3-2 at the iPro Stadium on Saturday. Steve McClaren's team knew Middlesbrough's 1-0 defeat against Leeds earlier in the day had presented them with an opportunity to steal a march on their promotion rivals. Jake Buxton headed the hosts level in the 47th minute, only for Will Keane to fire the Owls back in front in the 55th minute. Derby showed their character to recover from that blow as Buxton equalised again in the 68th minute with another header before Darren Bent converted a penalty after Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood was sent off in the 75th minute for a professional foul. 8. President Barack Obama's new Pentagon chief said Saturday the United States was seriously considering slowing the pace of a troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, as the country battles a resilient Taliban insurgency. US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter's comments in Kabul offered the clearest sign yet that Washington was ready to delay the closure of some bases and retain more troops after appeals by Afghanistan's new President Ashraf Ghani and advice from commanders. To safeguard "hard-won" progress, Obama "is considering a number of options to reinforce our support for President Ghani's security strategy, including possible changes to the timeline for our drawdown of US troops," Carter said after talks with Afghan leaders. 11. Tim Sherwood's reign as Aston Villa manager started in painful fashion as Stoke City snatched a late 2-1 win at Villa Park on Saturday. Sherwood was in charge for the first time following his appointment as successor to the sacked Paul Lambert, but the former Tottenham Hotspur boss was unable to spark an immediate improvement in his struggling team's fortunes. The hosts had taken the lead through Scott Sinclair's first-half goal, but Mame Diouf equalised just before the break and Victor Moses ensured Sherwood's debut would end in frustration when he converted a penalty three minutes into stoppage time after Villa defender Ron Vlaar was sent off. 14. The US and Britain are considering deepening sanctions against Russia due to its "craven behaviour" in Ukraine, Secretary of State John Kerry said before talks with British counterpart Philip Hammond in London on Saturday. "We are talking about additional sanctions, additional efforts," Kerry told reporters. The pair met following a bloody few days in the Ukraine's east as Russian separatists and Ukrainian forces fought fiercely despite the announcement of a new ceasefire. It was meant have gone into force on Sunday, but Ukraine and the US have pointed to repeated violations, including the seizure of the strategic town Debaltseve by rebels they claim Moscow is backing. 15. Pro-Russian rebels prepared Saturday to swap prisoners with their Ukrainian government foes as part of a battered ceasefire, as an adviser to Ukraine's president said Kiev had lost 179 troops in fighting over the past month. In an exchange the West hopes will cool a deadly conflict that has poisoned relations with Moscow, around 40 prisoners on each side -- some of them wounded -- were to be handed over in the rebel stronghold of Lugansk, the rebels' official for human rights Daria Morozova said. The US and Britain, meanwhile, said they were considering imposing further sanctions against Russia. US Secretary of State John Kerry said in London before talks with British counterpart Philip Hammond. Continue reading...

Yemen's former president Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi left his official residence after weeks of house arrest by the Houthi militia on Saturday and flew to his home town of Aden, witnesses and a political source said. It was not immediately clear if he had been released from house arrest by the Houthis, who besieged his home and the presidential palace last month, leading him to resign, or if he had escaped. The United Nations, which oversaw a new power-sharing agreement between the Houthis and Yemen's other rival factions on Friday, helped him travel to Aden, a senior political source told Reuters. 19. Australia was clearing up Saturday after two severe cyclones left a trail of destruction, wrecking hundreds of homes and cutting electricity to tens of thousands, even as authorities warned of more flooding and gusty winds to come. Tropical Cyclone Marcia barrelled through the northeastern state of Queensland Friday at the highest-rated category five, ripping apart houses, uprooting trees and bringing down power lines. The severe system hit hours after category four Tropical Cyclone Lam slammed into the Northern Territory, causing extensive damage to remote Aboriginal communities near Elcho Island, some 500 kilometres (around 300 miles) east of the territory's capital Darwin. Both cyclones have since ceased, but the Bureau of Meteorology warned of further flooding, heavy rains, damaging winds and dangerous surf in southeast Queensland and northern New South Wales state. 24. Australia's ACT Brumbies head into this weekend's Super Rugby round against the Waikato Chiefs again without injury-blighted David Pocock as champions NSW Waratahs seek redemption after a poor opening loss. Former Wallaby skipper Pocock, who was man-of-the-match in the Brumbies' 47-3 hammering of the Queensland Reds in last week's opening round, is out indefinitely with an ankle injury after missing the last two seasons with consecutive knee reconstructions. The Brumbies tackle the two-time champion Chiefs in New Plymouth on Friday and will promote Jarrad Butler to openside flanker to replace Pocock while Ita Vaea is at No.8 and in the starting side for the first time in two years. "There's no doubt we'll miss David Pocock, but as the Brumbies Player's Player in 2014 Jarrad Butler was outstanding and I'm excited to see him back in the number seven jersey," coach Stephen Larkham said.
