Al Gore: The 22,619 Kilowatt-Hour Per Year Fraud

February 27, 2007

Former Vice President (and global warming aficionado) Al Gore deserves
an award for hypocrisy, says the Tennessee Center for Policy Research.

The group, which studied Gore's electric and natural gas consumption,
says his mansion in Belle Meade area of Nashville "consumes more
electricity every month than the average American household uses in an
entire year."

In his documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, Gore urges Americans to
conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home, the group
noted.

"The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh)
a year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured
nearly 221,000 kWh-more than 20 times the national average," the
Tennessee Center for Policy Research said in a news release.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh -- consuming more
than twice as much electricity in one month as the average American
family uses in an entire year. Gore's average monthly electric bill
topped $1,359, the research group said.

Likewise, the natural gas bills for Gore's mansion and guest house
averaged $1,080 a month last year.

"As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore
has to be willing to walk the walk, not just talk the talk, when it
comes to home energy use," said Tennessee Center for Policy Research
President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural
gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006, the Tennessee Center for
Policy Research said.

Tired of democrat hypocrisy when it comes to ethics, war, the
environment and racial tolerance?

Replace the democrats with a REAL Green

Vote Green!

They say they are for a "freer Tennessee," yet make PUBLIC a PRIVATE
CITIZEN'S PRIVATE INFORMATION.

They are they hypocrites.

It's a bullshit story from a far right whack-job hit group, to be sure, but
the utility records cited are, indeed, public records. IOW, yooza barkin' up

"If this were any other person with $30,000-a-year in utility bills, I
wouldn't care," says the Center's 27-year-old president, Drew Johnson. "But
he tells other people how to live and he's not following his own rules."

Scoffed a former Gore adviser in response: "I think what you're seeing here
is the last gasp of the global warming skeptics. They've completely lost the
debate on the issue so now they're just attacking their most effective
opponent."

Kalee Kreider, a spokesperson for the Gores, did not dispute the Center's
figures, taken as they were from public records. But she pointed out that
both Al and Tipper Gore work out of their home and she argued that "the
bottom line is that every family has a different carbon footprint. And what
Vice President Gore has asked is for families to calculate that footprint
and take steps to reduce and offset it."

A carbon footprint is a calculation of the CO2 fossil fuel emissions each
person is responsible for, either directly because of his or her
transportation and energy consumption or indirectly because of the
manufacture and eventual breakdown of products he or she uses. (You can
calculate your own carbon footprint on the website
http://www.carbonfootprint.com/)

The vice president has done that, Kreider argues, and the family tries to
offset that carbon footprint by purchasing their power through the local
Green Power Switch program - electricity generated through renewable
resources such as solar, wind, and methane gas, which create less waste and
pollution. "In addition, they are in the midst of installing solar panels on
their home, which will enable them to use less power," Kreider added. "They
also use compact fluorescent bulbs and other energy efficiency measures and
then they purchase offsets for their carbon emissions to bring their carbon
footprint down to zero."

Take it up with the power company. How do you think the cops find out
about a lot indoor marijauna growers? They look for big spikes in
their electric bills. Lot of folks get caught from theirt utility
bill alone.
Here, John Ford is once again in the spotlight because someone found
out that he hasn't paid an electric bill in several months yet still
has power.
It's not a new thing, been going on for years. There is nothing in
the constitution concerning a right to privacy in regards to public
utilities.
Personally I wouldn't care if they wanted to plaster my utilioty usage
on the front page of the paper each month. But then my piddly 150
dollar a month electric bill would be a bit boring I believe.

Good question. All I know is that's what the ABC story said. I couldn't tell

Utility bills are public record. Don't like it? Write your
congressman and get a law passed.
One in California has allready proposed one bill to remove
utilitybills from being public record but don't know if it ever made
it to a vote or not.

They are public records. Just like your property tax bill and a
myriad of other pieces of individual documentation.
Write your congressman and bitch about it.
