Ok' date=' before I say anything else, I must ask. In countries like USA, UK, Canada, and Australia, is this a big deal? Does everyone feel like they have to do something on that day? Is one a social outcast if one does nothing on Valentine's day? Is that true?[/quote']People arent social outcasts if they have nothing to do. Most people(like most of my friends) make a big deal of having nothing to do on that day.

People just give out cards and if they're actually in a relationship they'll give each other gifts and stuff. But its not like as big as Christmas, or even Halloween. If you're single its just another day (but some people chose to send n00b cards to the person that they like and sign it with a question mark... fools), but if you're going out with someone then you'll like go out somewhere and indulge each other with gifts etc.

Its an American holiday anyway, they're always making up various holidays and then the UK/Au just copy them

Ok, thanks black angel and rockinfreak.

I think saying people who are boycotting this are just doing it cause they don't have anyone, has truth to it. I mean, none of you guys boycot Christmas cause it's commercialised. Those members on here who don't celebrate it, do not do it cause it's commercialised, they do it cause they're not Christian.

BUT, there are people here who are against this because of commercialisation. I respect that, seeing as I myself do because of that. And I also do because it's just something I really don't give a **** about lol

So, it's not something I'm essentially against, but I think people have made way to big a deal out of this day. And have taken the meaning out of it. Not that I really give a rat's ***, but isn't this about love? Or at least should be. Not about how many gifts or cards you get, and certainly not about asking someone to be your Valentine, just so you're not alone on that day.

I mean come on, having someone for the rest of the year for something real, is worth a lot more than just getting a card from some person on this one day just for the heck of it.

I think it was said somewhere that all American holidays where made to get rich.

Why is it that in today's world no one is allowed to be happy?

"We can't have Valentine's Day, what about the single people?"

"We can't have Christmas, it offends other religions!"

"We can't have Thanksgiving, it makes people fat!"

"We can't have April Fools Day, its immature!"

Seriously, its a holiday for a reason. Now I'm going to make it a special day for my girlfriend and I, and I will be happy on the 14th, and no one is going to tell me I can't do it because if this or that. Or would you rather be miserable all the time? Maybe that is the case, but not for me.

Every year someone tries to destroy Valentine's Day, but it will never happen...because love conquers all! :p

^Exactly, let people have their special day. I do not have a 'special someone', but I have my friends and they are just a great as a boyfriend or girlfriend. Why not just be happy with the people who love you?

For me, Valentines day has never been about giving someone a present, or seeing who can buy their significant other the most expensive gift (my idiot friends used to do that all the time, the fools), but it's about showing those people I care about, just how much they mean to me. Even if it's only a simple hug, or kiss, or a flower I've stolen from the schools' gardens, they'll know I've thought of them, and that's what counts.

I don't buy into the commercial holdiays (except Christmas, of course!), and so I'm not going to go all out, and spend a hundred dollars on some crappy gift that they probably won't like very much anyway. I'm all about the sentiment of the day. I just want to make people feel lurrrrrved!

Never really got the point of valentines day, if you go no flower you were a loser if you got one you were a *****.

I guess it has more significance to other people, even if it is just another hallmark moment.

but like someone says such things could be said about every other holiday.

i like valentines day though.

dont boycott it, wearing black and behaving all weird like is basically like having your own little hallmark moment in your head but just not so lovey dovey.

The whole boycotting thing is quite an infantile and immature approach to valentines day me thinks. Those reasons are kind of silly really lol. Flowers die??? Everything dies sooner or later. We're going to die *shrugs*. Not a valid reason. Chocolate only melts if it's in a hot surrounding, and I shall never give up chocolate for anything in the world <3 It's a way of life xD.

I can understand how single people feel, as I am once more a singleton on this one "special" holiday, but unlike others, I don't really care lol. Some of you sound a little spiteful over this, which is kinda worrying lol :S If couples wanna have a special day, that's great for them, and I think it is a really sweet idea. I know what you guys mean about how love should be cherished like 365 and a quarter days of the year, rather than 1 specific day, but c'mon. It's really cute lol. Valentines day isn't really that big here. I don't think people kick up a huge fuss about it as much as in America. Just another day for me :) And if I don't recieve any chocolates, I'll buy some myself lol.

^That's so sweet :D

Well valentines day can be about love for other people / things. Like your parents, or your friends, or your computer ;) Let's take love to a new level! **** I think I should propose to my bed or something.

all i have to say is that V-day is soooo lame due to the fact that chocolate that you would normally buy gets priced higher and that if you have a "gf" then they expect their guys to buy them overpriced **** !

ohhh and what is up with pink and red (it's way tooo much!)

I'm with you for several reasons.

1st, like most people said, it just makes single people feel even more unloved and alone. This leads to many people committing suicide on days like this one, which makes the day even more depressing.

2nd, why the **** do people couples need yet another day to celebrate themselves together? That have 364 other **** days to share their love.

3rd, and I give credit to my best friend for this one, a couple should always show how much they care about their partner other than just this one out of the whole year. I'm not saying show PDA everywhere they go, but you should always treat them special, even if it's just a simple rose everynow and then.

I don't care what my mom thinks. I'm going to wear entirely black on that damned day to show others what I really think of their pathetic lovers day.

You are incredibly selfish. If you don't want to celebrate it, fine. Just treat it as a normal day. Don't go try to ruin it for everyone else. You're being immature and extremely self-centered. Like I said earlier, grow up.
