germany on the back of a pretty below par effort and their only real threat reded til semis,i really dont see germany pulling through,they lack the zing and fire they had in wc06, other than scweinsteiger and lahm, looked very rigid and had no real flow in attack
the trend has been set, score first, hit from the counter, no team has been run down yet(counting italies lucky escape act against romania) and teams like spain and holland are destroying teams on the counter. the thing that stands out most is that teams with DEPTH are taking charge of the tournament, teams with more than ONE playmaker, spain boast Iniesta,Xavi and you know they carry depth when fabregas comes off the bench, same with the dutch, theyre so technically gifted they can play various positions-van bronkhorst coming into the middle of the park,van persie playing more as an attackign winger, van der vaart dropping back to CM when robben came on. speed in attack is also another trend, whereas teams in the past have looked to BUILD plays(or build around a central playmaker-ie Zidane for France in wc06), teams like holland and spain are breaking fast and using their prowess in technique and team structure to swamp defenses with ease
italy and france are basicaly out given romania HAVE beaten holland(though its hard to see...i can sort of sniff a "fixed" upset such that romania go through and the 2 finalists from wc06 go out)
holland HASTO be the favourites now, theyre just so WOW atm, robben amazes me and what can u say about their style? pure entertainment
in terms of a final, holland-portugal-spain permutations would be great, but with germany,croatia and sweden lurking...all **** could break loose if 1-2 of the faves go down in the knockout stages
