This is a great email I recieved at work today!

When I was a kid adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning . uphill both ways ... through year 'round blizzards .. carrying their younger siblings on their backs .. to their one-room schoolhouse, where they maintained a Straight-A average despite their full-time, after-school job at the local textile mill where they worked for 35 cents an hour just to help keep their family from starving to death!

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in **** I was going to lay a bunch of **** like that on kids ... about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!

But...

Now that I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a **** Utopia! And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet ...we wanted to know something, we had to go to the **** library and look it up ourselves!

There was no email! We had to actually write somebody a letter .... with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were no MP3s or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to go to the **** record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and f@# it all up!

You want to hear about hardship? You couldn't just download ****! You had to bribe some homeless dude to buy you a copy of "Hustler" at the 7-11! Those were your options!

We didn't have fancy **** like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal! And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your boss, your mom, a collections agent, your drug dealer, you didn't know!!! You just had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Play station videogames with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like "Space Invaders" and "Asteroids" and the graphics sucked ***! Your guy was a little square! You had to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win, the game just kept getting harder and faster until you died! ... Just like LIFE!

When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy sat in front of you and you couldn't see you were just screwed!

Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 20 channels and there was no onscreen menu and no remote control! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your *** and walk over to the TV to change the channel and there was no Cartoon Network! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning... .D'ya hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK, you spoiled little bastards!

We didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up .. we had to use the stove .. imagine that! If we wanted popcorn ... we had to use that stupid jiffy pop and shake it over the stove like an idiot forever.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled, you guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980!

I was always into collecting GARBAGE PAIL KIDS and PAC MAN collectables

Remember those old baseball card sized stickers that had a little PAC MAN game you could scratch off ?? I still have a **** LOAD of them, one of these days I might scratch them off and play the game.

And my GARBAGE PAIL KIDS cards go for ONE **** OF A PRICE now on eBay since I probably have 10 sets (or more) of the first edition cards.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=60235&item=6183403764&rd=1

And I also have an old Coleco Pac-man game in MINT CONDITION

http://www.miniarcade.com/img/games/coleco/pacman_game1.jpg

Guess that might explain my sons facination too.

I built him his own arcade machine using alot of the ideas from the ARCADE PARADISE project, and MAME. I converted an old "Nintendo Playerschoice 10

**** did all that but sucker tobacco, you guys must have been rich or had contacts to have a tobacco allotment.

My mom used to tell me and my brother go cut me a keen switch and we would always crack it so it would break fast and she whould smack us all the while saying wait till your daddy gets home and there was no cure for that folded belt.

I pushed a lawnmower to cut grass for free without a motor in fear of the above and usually the reason for the above. Weed eaters used to look a lot like sissors.

My dad had a tractor but would borrow a mule and plow to plow the garden every spring just to show us kids how easy we have it compared to him when he was a kid.

Space Invaders was the bomb.."boomba boomba boomba boom"

Dam got me again!
Space Invaders was pretty kick ***, all black and white vector gaming, ******* give you a headache after a while.

We used to play that one alot at the bar when we were kids, the Bar had a game room seperate from alot of the adults and we'd play the **** out of... lets see.. Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, Mr. Do, Frogger, Alpine Ski, Ms. Pac-Man, Defender, and I can't remember the other one they had..

Ms. Pac-man was the game we'd all slide up the front glass bezel from its base, and stick our hands down into the cabinet and punch up credits.

We had a great system too, we knew if we punched up to many, they would hear us at the bar because of the sound the CREDITS made.

So we'd slip our hands in and punch up 1 credit, we'd then play the game till he got to the SECOND and longest act, then while that music was playing we'd punch up more credits, since the credit sound would not play during the act 2 sequence... We'd have almost a hundred credits in the machine before act 2 was over, and we'd play the **** out of Ms. Pac Man until we were bored with it.

And now with my arcade cabinet here at home, sure is nice to plunk those quarters back in, hear that crashing sound down into the bottom of the coin collection pan, and here that all too familiar KA-DUNK sound of your credit being accepted, ar that little melody at the beginning of GALAGA... YEAH THATS WHAT IT WAS GALAGA...(from the bar).. ******* kick back with a pack of smokes, a 12 pack of beer, a ******* PAUSE button installed incase you need to ****, and just fire away... Or to play PUNCH OUT with joystick controls like the arcades have and kick some serious ***

Simple ******* graphics, simple game play, ALL the old patterns and screens are there, all the old TRICKS, PURE NOSTALGIA !! ******* ADDICTING as **** to play..

******* turn on your mp3 player in the back ground with a JUKEBOX interface on your screen that you can switch to, turn down all the lights and get taken back into the 80's.... what fun !!

I LOVE M.A.M.E. !!!

My daddy said commodies were for ******s and white trash but when I was 16 dad went under the knife and worse yet he had leased a dairy farm and my brother and I did the deal getting up at 4:00 to milk the cows...clean up and off to school... home from school milk the cows. Summer break more cows, hay, corn and so on... then the lease ran out and dad was still down. Had to move to town and yes we took commodies with that great cheese and salty ham. I worked after school and weekends in a Jewish store to help out... Dad got better and we moved to NJ where we never experienced the cheese again. ****! I lost my horse when the lease ran out and I don't know which I miss more the tripping guilding or that great cheese.
