Chapter Five
When we got into the safe house, it reminded me of a very nice apartment. There was a full kitchen, with a breakfast nook, a living room with a flat screen television and a holographic image inducer in the middle of the room for things like old school music videos, there also was a study, its’ walls filled with books of various ages and genres. Down the hall fro, the study with its’ leather chairs, was the master bedroom. A huge bed was hanging in the middle of the room, attached to the ceiling with only steel chains. Two walk in closets were on the walls, one opposite of the other. One fore me, and one for Afeilius. They were filled with different types of clothes for us, tee-shirts, jeans, shoes, all sorts of neat things. The master bath was beautiful, a jet bath, a shower, two sinks, a sauna, and tiles and walls fit for a goddess.
There was only thing that didn’t look like it belonged in an apartment, and that would be the armory. There was a silver, metal door, off from the hallway leading down from the master bedroom to the living room. Inside, was a complete armory. It had everything from the mortal guns to the angelic weapons such as a sword, its’ blade made from the mind of whomever wielded it. Mortal guns had at least thirty boxes of ammunitions for each type of weapon. The armory itself was about thirty feet deep and about fifteen feet wide. The walls were covered with different sorts of weapons from different origins.
Themus showed us around the safe house, explained how to open the lock on the arsenal door. After he was satisfied that he had covered everything in the safe house, he left the house with a good handshake with Afeilius.
I marveled at how nice the apartment was compared to my old one in the city. It seemed like I was living a dream, with everything being perfect, but I feared that this will come to an end, just like all good dreams, ending before we ever wanted them to. Afeilius triple checked all the rooms while I was in my daydreaming state of mind. He also paced out how many feet it would be from each room to the door of the armory. At last, when he was satisfied with his finding of the safe house, he sat down with a soft ‘thump’ on the huge sofa.
I walked quietly to the sofa, looked it over, passing over Afeilius with my eyes as if he wasn’t even there. He was sitting in a rather lazy, relaxed manner, with his arms across the back of the sofa. He was watching me intently, trying to figure out what I was planning on doing next. I knew what I was going to do, something to lighten the atmosphere a touch.
I made my pure white wings appear, making them flutter a bit, seemingly innocent. Then, I started to rise above the black couch, up to the amazing fifteen foot ceiling. Afeilius watched me with a grin upon his face. I stayed above him, hovering for a bit, but not too long to lose his attention. I gave the demon on the sofa an innocent grin, fooling him for the moment. I suddenly closed my wings against my back, causing me to drop quickly down on top of Afeilius.
I landed in a laying down position, with my upper body on Afeilius. I elbowed his chest, having a fake frown on my face.
“Man.” I said, frustratingly elbowing Afeilius. “We need to get a new sofa. This one has lumps like crazy!” I said, trying to hold back my giggles.
Afeilius laughed as he started to try to get me off of him, moving this way and that, but I stayed on, but just barely. Suddenly, he flipped me over and sat on me, laughing hysterically.
“You’re right Kyraian. The sofa is very lumpy. Maybe I should bounce on it to get all of them big lumps out.” He said, laughing as he bounced a few times, ignoring my giggles.
He grabbed my sides and started tickling me. I squealed as his fingers ran over the ticklish spots on my body. I tried to arch my back to get him off balance, but his wings showed up to balance him without him trying.
At last, he gave a moments rest, just enough time for me tog et my wings out from being pushed against my back and shoulders. I lifted myself up a few inches, not enough for Afeilius to notice, and gave my wings the space they needed to get out from under me. I flapped my wings hard, making a huge gust of air that went straight for Afeilius’ face. The wing was to strong that it lifted him about six inches off of me, just enough that I could get out from under him. His face had a big smile on it as I gently hovered and landed in the seat next to him. As I sat down, I got the TV remote and switched on the plasma and flicked to the movie channels.
Afeilius got up, calm and collected, as if nothing had happened, and went into the kitchen and started making some old fashion popcorn. He whistled to himself just like he always did while he cooked, and it comforted me greatly.
Suddenly, the holographic image inducer switched on and Themus’ face appeared ten times larger than life, in the middle of the living room. He looked around the room, searching for someone or something. The floating head made a popping sound, and, as if on cue, Afeilius showed up in the living room with a bowl full of buttered popcorn.
As Themus’ head looked around the room, Afeilius moved quietly towards me. When Themus’ big, glowing, head was finished checking the room, his eyes settled down upon me. Those eyes didn’t move from their position on me, those eyes that seemed ever deepening. Afeilius was looking back and forth between me and the giant head.
Suddenly, Themus looked at Afeilius and smiled. “How are you two liking your new home?”
“Good, it’s so much better than our previous apartment. How are you getting yourself onto that holographic thingy?” inquired the demon.
The head laughed and said, “I have a video camera in my hiding place. So when this is on, I get a video back of you.”
Afeilius nodded, acting as if he already knew what Themus was talking about.
At last, I spoke up. “Themus, forgive me for my forwardness, but this is a question I must ask. Who, or as a matter of fact, what are you? I mean, I thank you for helping us, but there is a small sense of worry that comes with the sense of thankfulness. Small lingering fire of doubt in the pit of me. So, Themus, will you answer that question?”
The huge heads’ eyes dropped to the floor, silently, not answering my question. I stood in front of him, waiting for him to respond, not moving my gaze. I refused to let him go on with helping us without answering. Afeilius stood boldly next to me, glaring at Themus’ head, while still holding his popcorn.
Themus finally looked back up at me, his eyes connected to mine. “Alright, I’ll tell you both my story. But before I do, I’ll come over there, so there is less of a chance of being heard. I’ll be on my way shortly. Be ready for me. I’ll open the door myself so that nobody can catch a glance at you two.”
Afeilius nodded. “We’ll be waiting for you to come. Goodbye for now Themus.”
Themus’ head nodded and the holographic image inducer went out with a small clicking sound. Now, all there was to do was to wait for the man to come down the metal stairs that led to us. I sat back down on the couch, with nothing to do but wait and listen to Afeilius chomp on popcorn kernels. I sighed and leaned back on the pillows of the sofa and closed my eyes, thinking of all the possibilities of the outcome when Themus revealed to us who he really was.
