No. I mean the examined life, period. It has become my

settled conviction that attempting to understand anything

is a mug's game, and attempting to understand oneself

is the ultimate folly. Others' mileage may differ, but I can

only go by what I have learned the hard way.

Consider the whale. It is supposed to have intelligence

far above the curve for the animal kingdom in general,

yet how does it spend its time? Swimming around

letting plankton float into its mouth, that's how. And

that's why I think whales are more intelligent than

humans, in that they are smart enough to just let their

food come to them, and don't bother with advertising

and (as far as marine biologists have been able

to determine) acting like ******* ********.
