Chevy also had a 383. It was basically a 350 with a longer stroke and a slightly bigger bore. I think it was a police interceptor engine if I remember correctly. I know you can still get kits to convert your 350 to a 383..

.
Hmmmmmmmmm. I've lost a lot of brain cells from partying in my younger years.

I haven't done one in over 10 no make that 15 years, but before I went geek, I used to be into horsepower. That's the main reason I like MOPAR. I've done rebuilds on all the big 3 engines. MOPAR is absolutely my favorite to work on. I used to research all kinds of engines. My all time favs are the Ford 289, the Chevy 327, and the MOPAR 340. Those 3 are IMO, the BEST engines to build up for the money because you can squeeze so much out of them without breaking the bank, and since they are all small blocks, they fit in most anything.

I can still remember the 327 we put into my cousin's Monza. Such a tiny car, but **** it screamed so fast, you could actually make the front end come up on it when you took off. Never did get to do what I wanted to do with my first car though (76' Ford Mustang II), I wanted to throw a 289 in that puppy.

He he yeah my brother had a 76 Mustang. Al my oldest brother took my other brothers Triumph 750 bike so we decided to take his Mustang out for a ride. Al was so ****** that when he came up to the house he popped a wheely with Bobs Triumph and and then let it go. Oh man! LMAO. That was one of those days I got out of the way between my two brothers. LOL. :D You have to understand my brothers are 5 and 4 years older than me. I was used to just getting out of the way.

A work friend of mine had a '64 1/2 Mustang. But she only had a six in it. Bought it new. (This was way back when)

Another friend had a '65 Cuda, 383. He got razzed 'cause he had an automatic.

Yeah my Barracuda was and auto too. I didn't own it to long because I knew I would either die in it or get busted.

When I was 16, I bought a bright yellow Chevy Chevette (1981, I think?). It was ugly as sin and smelled musty, but I cleaned it up, filled it with air fresheners, and drove that little junker for years until it finally **** out on me.

Man, I was so proud of that car because I worked hard, saved my money and bought it myself!

Yeah your first car is always your pride and joy no matter how ty it was "IT WAS MINE!" :D My first car was actually my moms and then my brothers. I wrecked the front end stealing it from the back yard so I eventually inherited it. It was believe it or not a 1957 Nova Super Sport. I was born in 1957 so I know for fact of the year this time. I tore it up before I was alowed to drive. I use to steal it out of the back yard by pushing it down the aly way so know one could hear me start it up. Was I a bad egg or what? :D

It used to be the opposite for me. My mom and dad (especially my dad), used to jack my car all the time, forcing me to borrow their's. Probably because it looked beter, ran better, and even smelled better then the POS cars they had at the time (77 Grand Prix & 69 Ford Custom 500). I will give props to the Custom 500 though for having a solid engine that never burned oil and got excellent gas mileage and acceleration, and the Grand Prix for having the Turbo 400 tranny and adjustable air shocks..

426 Was a Mopar motor.

427 was a Chevy big block,

396 was also a Chevy big block

383 was a Mopar motor, but it was also a Chevy small block 350 with a 400 crank in it, called a 383 stroker.

Ford had a 428 big block and a 429 big block.

Yeah ya know I was a spoiled brat and should'a got my *** beat. I don't know who was better off you or me.

When I would come home I made sure the back gate was open so I could coast in. I would then climb into the camper that my dad had back there and pass out (literal). Then I would get up and go get breakfast and my parents would act like nothing happened. Although in hindsight I should'a got my *** kicked, my parents would act like it was their fault.

LOL!!! My first car was a 76 Grand Prix with a 400, 4 barrel carb, with a turbo 400 and air shocks. I beat many a rival in that car. :D

Don't forget Ford's 454 beast!! If I remember correctly, that was the last engine I have ever rebuilt. It went into my dad's camper. When we first bought the truck for the camper, the 454 in it had been sitting for years. The engine was seized up from rust, it took us almost an hour to get it started again. We had to manually turn the crank shaft to loosen up the pistons. It smoked like **** the whole way from Cozad to Schuyler. I took it over to Drueppel's auto (friends of ours), and tore out the engine, set it on the stand, took it apart, and **** the pistons were even rusty. I was shocked we got that thing running at all. Ended up changing every bearing, every freeze plug, every ring, cam, **** everything had to be pretty much redone. I was shocked we didn't blow the engine driving it that far. I remember seeing it before we brought the block to NAPA for the clean-up/honing and after. You couldn't tell it was the same engine. Amazing what an acid dip can do!! But anyways, after it was slapped back together, MAN did that truck have some serious *****. I was surprised because I actually put in a more fuel efficient cam in, no bore, just honed, and OEM pistons, intake and exhaust. The throttle response was just crazy paired up with that 4:11 rear end.
****, love those old car memories. Almost makes me wanna rebuild another engine for s and giggles.

Hmm, my SECOND car was a 76' Grand Prix, 400 2 barrel with air shocks. Don't remember the tranny, but I'm thinking it was a turbo 350. What color was yours? Mine was gray. I never raced anyone with my cars, ever. I liked building engines, just not into racing..

What's the difference between a bore and a hone? I thought that was pretty much the same. Doesn't a hone shave off a little to make it a bore?

Boring it out means you are making the circumference a tad bigger, honing it is putting the cross hatch in it and smoothing out the walls like in this picture.
Notice the crossover pattern? That's the hone
