ha thats soo true, which is exactly why i have one! but im leaving my school tommorow, so its also an easier less akward way to keep in touch.lol. i thought the same too. my friend mentioned the definition of it the other day which makes so much sense.

EDIT: ^^ Go to someone's profile and then there will be a toolbar on the left or right and then click the add as a friend option. Then they will either say yes or no when they get online the next time.
