I think the reason is because these topics are extremely important. Our very existence as a free nation is in jeopardy as far as I'm concerned. True we can't stop dialect between the opposition but emotions are running high. My friend told me today that he was talking to his doctor about Obama's health care and his doctor came unglued and was ranting about how he will not be able to keep his practice the way it is now if Obama has his way. My friend agrees with him but he couldn't believe how stirred up his doctor got.
Our county might be changing drastically and people are very concerned. You have a far left congress and president with a majority of the population disagreeing and fearful that the very fabric of our country is at stake.
I feel the same way, I am not one to sit humbly on the sidelines and watch things get ruined without speaking out. I will admit to being more energetic than maybe I should sometimes but I do take the destruction of our freedoms and the arrogance of some politicians personally. Why? Because it IS personal. Long after I am gone my family will continue and the foundations we set now will hurt them more than me. I would love to help preserve some of the freedoms that made my life possible for my children, and their children.

The debate is never civil, because it gets distorted with outright lies, deceptions, and misinformation. Not to mention the name calling.
And most of that distortion and lies is from Obama and as the leader of the discussion, everyone else is simply following his lead.

If he would admit to things like the cost of his program maybe some other people would not go to the other extreme to counter his lie........maybe?

Forget all the other questions Bender, forget the past arguements.....do you really believe this bill will be "deficit neutral" as Obama has promised no less than 40 times? Answer that one question for me without a lot of disclaimers and excuses....please.

We've been deceived for years and years. Where have you been?

Screaming "You lie" in the midst of Obama's address is a great and civil way to get your point across!

I love how you twist every thought and every word to your own device. This thread is not about you, TJ. If it were, Bender would have used your name and then you'd have a leg to stand on.

You're hobbling at best.

Right here noticing it all, where have you been?

My point was responding about Bender's complaint about folks not being totally honest in reply to Obamacare. Obama started the lies so everyone is following suit.

Screaming "You lie" in the midst of Obama's address is a great and civil way to get your point across!
And neither is the lie itself. Do you think saying a lie softly makes it better?

I agree the guy was an idiot, but in my opinion Obama was just as disrespectful to his office and that chamber by standing there telling lie after lie on purpose.

A leg to stand on?

You need to ease up on the drining RO, your not making any sense, Bender spoke on his perspective, I spoke on mine, I am sure you speak from yours, what is your problem?

Again, my post was about Bender's claim everyone else is telling lies but if we look at the start, it is Obama who is setting the stage with his own lies first and everyone else is just following suit.

That is why I kept it simple ans asked about Obama's repeated promise to keep this Obamacare "deficit neutral". Nobody believes that claim, everyone interviewed even on the shows on ABC says this is impossible.

Because most people are too pigheaded to see things any way but their own, and too insecure to acknowledge that anyone holding an oppsing view may actually have valid reasons for holding it.

Well said, Merc.

I get that, but that sounds more like harassment that debating political ideas. I?m referring to people simply stating their opinion about the healthcare plan, or in the case of my one friend, putting one status on his facebook about being glad he missed the speech. No one would want to be constantly harassed like your friend was, but living life requires a certain amount of tolerance when it comes to opposing views.

Harassment would be the perfect word for that situation, absolutely.

And yes, you can't stick your head in the sand about every little thing. You'd wind up losing a lot of friends that way for sure.

My friends are who they are and believe what they believe. I see no benefit in shoving my own personal political beliefs, religious views, moral codes or sports team affiliations down their throats. That's just ghey.

Concentrated power is not rendered harmless by the good intentions of those who create it.

Milton Friedman

What I admired about Friedman, and Buckley was another example, is he never tried to demonize the opposition by questioning their motives. What he pointed out so well is that the road to **** is paved with good intentions.
