THE REAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIBERALS AND CONSERVATIVES

The Origins

The division of the human family into its two distinct branches, liberals and conservatives, occurred some 20,000 years ago. Until then all humans coexisted as members of small bands of nomadic hunter/gatherers. A thousand generations ago, in the pivotal event of societal evolution, beer was invented. This epochal innovation was both the foundation of modern civilization and the occasion of the great bifurcation (to divide into two branches) of humanity into its two distinct subgroups.

Once beer was discovered, our prehistoric forebears decided it was time to settle down. Making beer required grain, and securing a steady supply of it ordained the invention of agriculture.

After that was accomplished, ancient man quickly, and unfairly, consigned actual cultivation to women.

Men couldn't just run off, *****-nilly, however. Neither the glass bottle nor the aluminum can had yet been invented, so it was necessary to stick pretty close to home, and the brewery.

This left our male ancestors with a lot of time on their hands, and led to the division of the species, which persists to this day.

Some men tried to conserve remnants of the old way of life (hence the term "conservative") by spending their days in the open field in the dangerous pursuit of big game animals. At night they would roast their prey at a big barbecue, and afterwards sat around the fire drinking beer, passing wind and telling off color jokes.

Other, more timid, souls stayed closer to home. They are responsible for the domestication of cats and the invention of group therapy. Mostly, they sat around worrying about how life wasn't fair and concocting elaborate schemes to "liberate" themselves from inequity (thus their designation as "liberals"). In the evening they gathered around their fire, nibbling on fruit and nuts, sharing their innermost feelings.

THE REAL DIFFERENCES

Government

By definition liberals believe in big government and high taxes. Life is unfair and the government is there to do something about it. Most people are too stupid to spend untaxed income wisely, they say, and high taxes allow liberals in government to do a better job of it.

Conservatives don't like government, and, aside from the military, wish it would just go away. They hate taxes, regulations, speed limits, and small cars.

Examples of

Typical conservatives are Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronald Reagan, Rush Limbaugh and, up there with the Big Man in the Sky, the incomparable John Wayne.

Typical liberals are Dustin Hoffman, Shirley McLaine, Pee Wee Herman, Martin Sheen, Sean Penn, Barbra Streisand, Ted Turner and his former wife, the traitor Jane Fonda.

James Brown and Ray Charles are conservatives. Michael Jackson and Milli Vanilli are liberals.

What they drink

All conservatives drink beer. American beer. (Aussie beer, if you can keep up)

Some liberals like imported beer, but most prefer white wine or foreign water from a bottle.

What they drive

Liberals like to drive Volvos and Saabs because they're made in socialist Sweden. They like to eat weird food because it's un-American.

Your basic conservative vehicle, especially in Alaska, is the Chevy Suburban. It's big, it's American, it's four wheel drive, and it sucks up the gas. Conservatives eat beef, which they (surprise!) like to barbecue.

Their view on sports

Liberals invented the designated hitter rule in baseball because it wasn't "fair" to make the poor pitcher take his turn at bat.

Conservatives, inspired by a remark of the legendary Pittsburgh Steeler linebacker Jack Lambert, believe quarterbacks should be required to wear skirts, so they can more easily be distinguished from real football players.

Their careers

Most social workers, personal injury lawyers, journalists, and group therapists are liberals. Most ranchers, loggers, professional soldiers, and steeplejacks are conservatives.

Big game hunters are conservative. Interior decorators are liberal.

Law and Capital Punishment

Liberal jurors distrust the prosecutors and police. Conservatives figure the defendant must be guilty or he wouldn't be on trial.

Most conservatives not only believe in the death penalty, they would cheerfully implement it, personally, if called upon to do so.

Liberals think capital punishment is a barbaric relic, and unfair to boot. Liberals believe Europeans are, generally speaking, far more enlightened than Americans. Conservatives think they're basically decadent, as evidenced by their complete absence in wars.

The movies they watch

Typical conservative movies are "Raising Arizona", "Patton", and "Conan the Barbarian".

Typical liberal movies are "Prince of Tides", "Last Tango in Paris", and "The Big Chill".

Horses

The quintessential liberal is the handicapper, the person who decides how much extra weight to saddle the faster horses with in order to make the race "fair".

The American cowboy, of course, is your basic, full bore conservative. A hundred years ago an Englishman in South Dakota was trying to find the owner of a huge cattle ranch. He rode up to one of the ranch hands and asked, "Excuse me, but could you tell me where to find your Master?"

To which the cowboy replied, "That sumbitch hasn't been born."

So, what are you?

Just adding a little fuel to the fire.

A family is out for an evening walk when little Timmy decides to throw a temper tantrum, sits down on the curb, and refuses to go any farther. What do his parents do?

If his parents are conservatives, they bid Timmy a cheerful "B-Bye!" and keep right on strolling. Within a couple of minutes, Timmy will decide that coming along is more fun than sitting alone on the curb, and will run to catch up.

If his parents are liberals, the whole family will stop while the parents console and encourage Timmy until he is ready to proceed once more. This will only take a couple of minutes, and the stroll will continue.

Apparently, both methods work. The difference is what happens on the next walk. Y'see, the Timmy with the liberal parents has now learned that throwing a temper tantrum gets him attention, so he will do it again -- and he will continue to throw bigger and more elaborate tantrums as long as it works. Meanwhile, the Timmy with the conservative parents will never pull that **** again.

Yet, while the method used by the conservative family is clearly the one with long-term results, they are constantly berated by liberals for being cruel and heartless. "You just left Timmy there? How could you? What if he never caught up? He could have been emotionally scarred for life! There oughta be a law prohibiting such mistreatment!"

Would the conservative family have reacted differently if little Timmy had fallen down and broken his leg? Of course; they're not heartless, that's just liberal propaganda.

Will the liberal family ever learn how to get Timmy to quit throwing tantrums? Sure -- and that's why people tend to get more conservative as they get older: because they learn.

WTF?

Conservatives don't like government - Under the Bush administration, government size and regulation has increased larger than any other President since FDR. I guess Mr. Bush isn't a "Conservative".

They hate taxes - But they LOVE deficit spending! Yes, taxes are bad for buying political votes, yet under the Bush administration, government debt has grown to the largest it has ever been, and at a rate that has exceeded even LBJ. Nobody has a clue how we are going to pay for ANY of this insanity. Even a 100% tax of all GNP for the next 20 years, wouldn't satisfy the national debt. I guess Mr. Bush isn't a "Conservative".

They hate...regulations...[/I] - Especially when it curtails their power or get in their way. Then they just ignore it. More government regulation has occured in this administration, especially in curtailing the rights of free citizens. I guess Mr. Bush isn't a "Conservative".

They hate...speed limits, and small cars. - Yes, especially "Conservatives" like former 4 term Republican South Dakota Governor and once seated Republican Congressman Bill Janklow who ignored speed limits, and stop signs, multiple times, and ended up killing Randolph E. Scott, 53, of Hardwick, Minnesota. For this, he received a paltry 100 days of county jail time. ( Who remembers and speaks about the murderd Bikers? I do.)

"Janklow was behind the wheel of his Cadillac on August 16 when he ran a stop sign at a rural intersection about 10 miles south of Flandreau. Scott, who was riding his motorcycle home from his father-in-law's 80th birthday party, crashed into the side of Janklow's car and was killed.

Prosecutors said Janklow -- who had boasted about his lead-foot driving in the past -- was going at least 70 mph in a 55 mph zone at the time of the collision. He suffered head, hand and leg injuries in the accident.

At a news conference before the trial, Janklow said he "couldn't be sorrier" about the accident, but he bristled at reporters who questioned him about his driving record, which included 13 traffic citations since 1990."

Don't pontificate to me about the differences between a Liberal and a Conservative.

Your assumption would be correct. He's possibly a neocon, more likely a Jacobin, however I believe he is so ******* dumb, he simply does what he is told to do, by those he serves.

Guess again. When the deal between Iran and China to trade oil and gas in eurodollars comes into effect, the US dollar will crash so dismally, that the US economy will also slide into oblivion. Your debtors might even consider cancelling some of your collective debt, so you can keep trading. Don't ever expect to climb out of that hole shrub has dug for you all.

They hate...regulations...[/I] - Especially when it curtails their power or get in their way. Then they just ignore it. More government regulation has occured in this administration, especially in curtailing the rights of free citizens. I guess Mr. Bush isn't a "Conservative".

If he had half a brain, he might be a conservative. His marketing team are calling the shots. More gov regulation, and less public freedom, as in freedom of speech, freedom of thought, freedom of spirit, are the hallmarks of a Jacobin government. Get off your collective arses, and start calling for that which your country stood for, before this clown and his waster of a father started ******* you all over.

Good for you. I fail to see the connection, but maintaining the rage is tantamount to the fight against the tyranny that is currently labelled as freedom.

One incident in many. Make the connection for us. Janklow sounds like a bastardo extremo, but is he an anomoly, or par for the course?

Prosecutors said Janklow -- who had boasted about his lead-foot driving in the past -- was going at least 70 mph in a 55 mph zone at the time of the collision. He suffered head, hand and leg injuries in the accident.

Power corrupts. I recall a Police Minister of ours, that relocated any cop who had the "audacity" of pulling him over for speeding. Suddenly the cop found himself at a one-man post hundreds of miles from nowhere.

At a news conference before the trial, Janklow said he "couldn't be sorrier" about the accident, but he bristled at reporters who questioned him about his driving record, which included 13 traffic citations since 1990."

Arrogance has no pity. Pretence comes easily to liars. Anger comes naturally to egomaniacs.

Don't pontificate to me about the differences between a Liberal and a Conservative.

Why not? Are the two terms too fixed for your views? Why are there not five parties in your politics? Democracy takes more than two.

Actually, there are many parties currently operating in the US. There are of course the Democrat Party and the Republican Party. Other parties include Reform, Green, Constitution and , my personal favorite, the Libertarian. Standard small government conservatism died with Barry Goldwater. The growth in tyranny of government really accelerated under FDR and has been chugging along ever since.

I hate to tell you this...the long term situation for Europe is much worse than the United States. A society's greatest strength is it's people. Europe is shrinking in population, the prospect of Muslim immigrants to solve this problem brings new problems to the fore. Also, Europe's tax load leaves little room for increased taxes to remedy pension and medical care shortage of funds. The era of Fabian socialism may come to an abrupt halt.

Careful when talking about car accidents and disregard for safety with Conservatives, we all still remember Ted Kennedy's little drive in the river when he was drunk. Didn't someone die there too?

All kidding aside, I agree that either Conservative or Liberal, An *******, By Any Other Name Is Still Just An *******!

So the other parties never get a look-in? Do they not host candidates for election? Do they have no say in decision-making processes? Are they not represented in Congress?

Sadly Americans are complacent. They complain about the two parties but fail to look at the viable alternatives. At this point the most third parties can hope to accomplish is to move the political center in their direction. This power should not be undervalued. By 1980 the American Socialist Party's platform of 1928 had been almost completely enacted, despite little electoral success for the Socialist Party.
