well this will no doubt stir up capital punishment views here....look at it from both points of view...
FOR death penalty-the person loses his life ultimately, in a sense its a big sense of justice done and one less ******* in this world...
BUT, is it REALLY punishment? does the taking of one life really ease the loss of years(in this austrian case) or the loss of lives?
the thing about human nature is that it is inherently flawed, somtimes to a massive fault, but we live on, and if we live on theres a good chance for rehabilitation, thats the idea behind jail anyways, thats why people are against capital punishment or the death penalty
as much as we hate people like this, we cant be affording to being back the death penalty, even though i for one am FOR the death penalty, we've got look at it reasonably, what if we make the wrong decision? we waste another life for no reason other than to find our own sense of justice and inner peace when the real culprit could be out there
and capital punishment is just another form of torture, in a way its "justified" torture, and those who do torture them, are they no better than those who raped, kidnapped, tortured their victims? its doing something evil to remedy another evil done, and that will never do the world any good
people may think jail is too good for these people, but is it? rapists are the worst kind, and they dont get treated lightly in jail, not to mention they ahve no sense of "life" anymore, they cant expierience the great things we do in the outer world, it IS a form of punishment, and probably the WORST kind of punishment i feel imaginable, being locked up behind windowless walls, with no chance of seeing the outside world other than perhaps a few hundred metres ahead of your metal fence, i would rather die than come to the realisation that i have no REAL future, that my only future is the prison showers, sharing every waking moment with morons devoid of morality and having no hope of one day living "free"
is a bird truly happy in its cage?
for this austrian case, its horrendous...and no doubt alot of angst and anger will be vented....but we REALLY...REALLY hafto be looking out first and foremost is the victims, its all good to berate the *******, or call for the death penalty, but those will do no form of justice if the victims continue to suffer mentally or physically
