Metaphor for the Obama Era
The people on the up escalator side are government teet parasites, leftists, statists, progressives, Democrats, being ushered along like good sheeple. The people on the down escalator side are individualists, taxpayers, entrepreneurs, etc... who would fair just fine if they weren’t actually powering the other set of stairs. Eventually, they will run out of energy and just go to the right side and overload those stairs. Those stairs will then begin to creep backward until, eventually, everyone is in a pile on the floor going nowhere.
