OK folks here's the deal. I got A LOT of PMs and saw a few threads where folks were showing interest in the user reputation system making a comeback.
The problem is that in the past when we had a user reputation system it was abused by members giving users bad reputation because of personal fights and basically rendered the system totally inaccurate. It caused spamming and all kinds of problems.
How is it different this time?
Of course I first discussed it with the staff and they were wary too. To fix the problem I decided to return it BUT make it so that not only staff can give rep but elite members as well. BEFORE YOU COMPLAIN know that I didn't decide this just as an extra perk for green members. The fact is there are over 4000 of you and only 14 of us There is no way we would be able to be everywhere at once and giving people rep points who deserve it. So giving green members, who have already shown their loyalty and maturity, the ability to give rep will help ensure that everyone who deserves it gets it.
I also made it voluntary. If you do not want to allow people to give you rep good or bad, everyone has the ability to turn if off in your UserCP under options http://www.linkinparkforums.com/profile.php?do=editoptions
What the heck is rep??
For those of you who have no idea what the **** I'm talking about Rep is the little green dot right under your post count. If you have a dark grey one that means you have it turned off in your UserCP. If your dot is red that means you have negative rep
What good is it to me?
Glad you asked. It helps in 2 ways.
1) It shows n00bs and all the other members how helpful you are and makes everyone more willing to trust you. As you get more rep you get more green dots.
2) It helps the staff see who's the most helpful and dedicated members as well. So when the time comes to choose the next elite member OR staff member it's a lot easier to see who has a good reputation.
So there you have it.... the rep system is back so let's not abuse it this time. It's a great feature and every forum should have it. We'll take another look at it in a month and if the staff wants it gone it's gone. So let's enjoy it . The staff will probably have a few more guidelines for you when using it but for me that's all I have
